art style and music are atmospheric and charming two main game mechanics, at least in the very early game, are finding the right damage type for enemies and shapeshifting into the defeated enemies (with their own hp bars), which creates surprisingly engaging combat after beating the game I'll add that exploration is pretty fun, I highly suggest drawing a physical map and marking things to return to, it makes the game both easier (because you start understanding the space better) and more engaging
After playing just a few minutes I already love it. I loved the first one, and this is just a perfect sequel so far. Intriguing new mechanics, with a familiar interface and gameplay. It seems really easy and simple at first, but the game is actually quite challenging, in the best way. If you die, it is always clear why it happened and it is a teaching moment, I love this about it.
A worthy, non-linear and more open follow-up to the excellent Ringlorn Saga. Cutscenes and dialogue are short and to the point so the player is never long from actually playing. Even in keeping things brief, the game manages to deliver a compelling, surprising and dark story. Exploring the map and uncovering secrets is a joy thanks to the new shape-shifting mechanic. This allows you to take the form of defeated foes (bar ghosts). Almost every "lock" has multiple "keys". Wondering what enemy will be useful to you, taking the form, getting it safely where needed and then opening the "door" is always satisfying. The combat/spell/item mechanics that are carried over from the original Saga are not explained in Gaiden like they were in the first game (via npc chats) so perhaps playing that first should be recommended. On the other hand, they are not so complicated, discovering through trial and error will not take long. The art and music create a creepy and mysterious atmosphere, perfect for the near-dead world we are dropped into. I look forward to Book II.
A short but fun action RPG similar to the old NES game Hydlide. Now that might come off to some as a serious negative as Hydlide is not a good game. But here there is a bit more going on. The core mechanic is that you become the enemies you kill and inherit some of their abilities. So a screen of enemies you'll start developing orders to defeat enemies, leaving the most valuable one for last and then morph into that enemy. The story is pretty good for a simple game such as this, the visual are simple but have an effective charm, and the music is also quite good. Ultimately its brisk length plays to its favor, you get to explore the mechanics, the story, and then it doesn't over stay its welcome at all.
I've always liked Hydlide's basic mechanics, but never got to finish that game, as everything else in it was done wrong (even though perhaps it was fine 40 years ago). So, I've dreamt of a similar game, but in a playable state. And here it is: now we finally see a Hydlide-like gameplay driven much closer to perfection, as here these mechanics are implemented properly, altogether with good MSX2-like graphics and music. Oh, and this game even has a story! The same is true for original Ringlorn Saga game as well, but this time Hydlide is mixed with Kirby, which brings an additional flavour to the gameplay.
I love the presentation, the feeling and the music. The in-game art is charming, but needs a little help to let creatures like bats stand out against the backgrounds. The design isn't much explained, and right now it's very much up to the user to trial-and-error thier way to learning the game. That said, I don't understand the fundamentals of what i should be possessing and what the benefits might be for each enemy, When I'm playing Kirby, the powers are very well communicated (such as the bat being able to cross over certain tiles). I'm uncertain of what each type can or does do, even while I'm play as it. I hope for some future updates. I really love the feeling so far!
A nice sequel to Ringlorn Saga of the same developer, Graverobber Foundation. If you played the previous game and liked it, this is a solid follow-up. If the previous game was not of your liking, this surely won't change your mind.
