3/10
Retro City Rampage DX functions as a relentless, 8-bit love letter to the gaming and media landscapes of the 1980s and 90s. Every mission serves as a vehicle for rapid-fire parodies, keeping the tone intentionally over-the-top as the narrative constantly breaks the fourth wall to acknowledge its own classic tropes. Mission-based objectives shift constantly between driving sequences, shooting galleries, and platforming segments to ensure the loop avoids stagnation. Players assist characters in repairing a time machine, moving through diverse second-rate jobs that feel more like a collection of arcade-style mini-games than a standard open-world crime epic. Fast-paced movement defines the moment-to-moment enjoyment, though the arcade-style handling can occasionally lead to input confusion during intense scenarios. Jumping and shooting commands sometimes overlap in ways that cause unintentional mishaps, forcing players to adapt quickly when the screen becomes cluttered with enemies or environmental hazards. Variable difficulty levels create surprising spikes, particularly when navigating the optional challenges that demand precise inputs or limited resource management. These sections can feel restrictive due to camera sensitivity or movement limitations, forcing a more disciplined approach than the casual roaming segments that characterise the main story progression. Tracking side content proves surprisingly tedious because the user interface lacks clear completion indicators for various slaughter sprees or scattered tasks. Navigating these requirements without helpful markers turns what should be straightforward discovery into a hunt for objectives that often leaves players unsure of their actual progress. Appreciating the sheer volume of cultural references requires a willingness to engage with its self-aware, silly humour above all else. This interactive parody prioritises a constant sense of forward momentum, treating its mechanical depth as secondary to the sheer joy of identifying the next clever nod to iconic films. Overall, the mission variety drives the momentum forward, ensuring that the journey remains engaging from the first task until the final scene. Fixing the time machine acts as a consistent anchor for the chaotic structure, delivering an entertaining ride that stays true to its identity as a charmingly nostalgic homage.
like many other 8bit retro style games this isn't my cop of tea but i still really enjoyed it

scam
This game is straight up a love letter to 80s , 90s, 2000s pop culture ever put into a video game, It's like the old school GTA games, mainlined a s**tload of Mountain Dew, and then injected it with every single movie, TV show, and game reference they could possibly cram in. The amount of references is ridiculous The art style is awesome, the cutscenes and cinematics are gorgeous, It's basically a giant love letter to retro movies, games, all that good stuff from back when media wasn't trash. Tons of action, chaos, you can just f*ck around and cause mayhem like the good old days If you're a zoomer who doesn't know jack s**t about 80s,90s,2000s pop culture you probably won't get half the references and it'll fly over your head. But if you actually grew up with that era or played those classics, it's worth checking out for sure.
