In RETNE you are a tourist travelling through VR Land. There's lots to see and so many things to do, but there’s a catch; it’s A DIY tour, so you have to do the hard work to visit all the magical attractions that the VR world has to offer.

I really don't get this game/experience. I'll start by saying it's really nicely made. Graphics are great and there's a nice atmosphere. No issues with that side at all. What I really don't understand is the concept. You aren't a "tourist travelling through VR Land". You basically go to 3 completely different scenes and have your "guide" speaking to you about it. It's not really a tour, as there are 3 scenes. That's it. Each scene lasts about 20 seconds. It's not a DIY tour either. You can't explore anywhere outside of your play area. You can't move around the scene other than the square you already are in. You can change where the square is. There's nothing extra to explore. Just one task in each scene. There's nothing linking any of the scenes together, it's just 3 random, odd scenes, placed together. There really isn't "lots to see and many things to do". I literally played for like 2 minutes and finished it. It's certainly not a game, and it's not even really an expereince. It's more like a short, short trailer for an upcoming game, but even for that it's too short. In conclusion, the graphics are great, and I'm sure this would be great for kids up to about 6 years old to entertain them for a few minutes. Unfortunately I can't recommend it at all. It's short, pointless and I have no idea what the concept of this is. It doesn't make any sense, and I think the description needs to be re-written, as it's so wrong. It doesn't explain the game accurately at all. If you want to pass a few minutes with cute cartoon characters, go for it. But I simply can't recommend this at all :(

There is very little to do in this "game": move your hand over some objects/area and that's it. And you'll know you did because then the creature alway makes some annoying noises (not sure if it is scared when we pick up objects or surprised that we are smart enough to do it, idiot!) The size of required play area is absurd. You barely need to move at all. The only real need to move is to go through the exit portal, and that's "needed" just because there is no way to move in the area but walk in real life. Graphism? meh... it looks ok at first glance but doesn't hold. For instance, on the first scene, with the flowers (see game screenshots). It's like you're in this beautiful garden, and then you notice that everything is plastic. Or like the portals: they are like windows to the next world. Except that the view is rendered as-is ou head is already there . So you have that portal 2 meters away from you, showing the flowers of the next world. But the flowers are rendered like if they were 1 m away. It's disturbing. Long story short (and it is very short, like 5min), it's free, so try it if you want, but you won't miss out if you don't.
Warning: 6 minutes long.
It's absurdly short, but it's free, it doesn't take up much space (less then 600MB), and it looks nice. Good demo, though I recommend trying SteamVR's tutorial first.
RETNE is a free VR experience. It worked on my HTC Vive, Index and Meta Quest 3 via Steam Link system, looked ok, played ok, sounded ok. You need to have the required play space to fully play this program. I used VR utility WalkingVR, to get through this experience, using the xbox controller movement feature. Was an ok experience to the end. Tried this on my Index with a new computer, worked all the way through. Room Scale 2.5m by 2m area required. Try it, if you like to explore VR.

I can confirm that this game works fine on Oculus Rift with Touch Controllers as long as you have a room scale setup. This is a very short VR experience, about six minutes long. There is also very little interaction. You move simply by walking around in your room scale area. You touch and grab a few things in each of the three scenes. Each of the VR environments are simply beautiful. Lots of detail and production value went into crafting these three scenes/worlds. So it's very pretty to look at and touch. However, it's also very limited. In the end, you're not doing much. And you have no idea why you're at these locations. Also, I had some problems in the last world (space). The screen started to tear and go into a loading screen and was very jittery at times. However, I got through it without a crash. I do recommend this game as it's free and has some nice ideas. But the ideas are not fully fleshed out. Definitely an experience geared towards VR beginners, especially kids. Rate 5.5/10
