If you want to scratch that match-three itch, with a non-Candy-Crush-RMT-esque-vibe, try the demo -- it's free! If the demo makes you want to buy it, be _just_ a little careful.. The first levels are fun and easy, but there are some difficulty jumps to deal with. As in, annoying dynamics that seem to auto-lose you the level you're currently on, several times. Not that there's anything like permadeath in this game -- the Casual tag is earned. Quite the opposite, you can grind earlier levels for deployable upgrades. It's just that, they're _random_ in their placement, and they still mostly depend on "gem" color. The gameplay is fast, the characters are cute -- it's the perfect time-waster I've been looking for. Recommended.
You can see by my many hours of play time that i did find something enjoyable about this game; however, it has problems that prevent me from recommending it. I believe the difficulties i encountered are likely to be platform-specific (this is just a guess), so the following lengthy tale of woe may be of exclusive interest to Mac users. Or, i dunno, it's pretty long, and the app isn't compatible with OS 10.15 or higher, so maybe my woe-tale is of interest to nobody. Oh well! The first clump of problems involves the achievements. I've earned all of them in-game, but not one shows up in Steam... and yet there's a discussion from 2017 in which the developer states "Just released an update today with Steam achievements now integrated," and then they CLOSED THE THREAD, as if making that pronouncement and then preventing anyone from disagreeing with it somehow magically makes it true. Okay, okay, to be fair: Steam reports that some people have earned Rescue Quest achievements, so it must be that they're implemented for some players but not others...? I never asked for help with the issue since i didn't expect to receive any, so i dunno what that particular deal is, but i'm on a Mac in case that's what makes the difference. I guess as one of the "not others," that thread-closing thing just sort of put a bad taste in my mouth. The next achievement-related problem i'm going to describe seems to be a new one, by which i mean i didn't encounter it the first time i played through: achievements are not saved even in-game. I know they worked in-game the first time i played (July 2022) because i took screenies of some of the high-level ones after discovering they weren't showing up on Steam. But now both profiles -- the one from last year and the one from this month -- show that zero achievements have been earned. Maybe i broke it by creating a 2nd profile? If that were true, it would be pretty ridiculous. One annoying offshoot of this is that every single time i start the app, i re-earn all the low-level achievements, and each one puts a pop-up on screen for about 3-4 seconds (i use "i" here rather than "you" because i'm not convinced this problem is universal)... so after making a particularly spectacular move early on in any given play session, i would find myself having to wait 20 seconds or longer for the parade of achievement pop-ups to finish blocking my view. "5 tokens in a single match!" ...(wait 4 seconds)... "6 tokens in a single match!" ...(12 seconds later)... "9 tokens in a single match!" ...and so on. This is especially inconvenient when it happens during "rival races," since those are essentially timed levels. So yeah, my play time is actually less than what's shown next to my name, because i got so tired of having the same achievements announced over and over that on a few occasions i left the game running while i was off doing something else. I think i finished my first playthrough in about 30 hours including all the bonus expert levels; my second playthrough accounts for the remaining 29 hours, but i didn't complete the base game nor play the 30-something expert levels due to frustration resulting from the issues mentioned above and in the next paragraph: Level 221 -- the final one -- has a bug that prevents you from winning it. When you get near the end, the game goes into "auto-complete" mode and stays there; in this mode, all buttons are removed from the screen, and both your character and the tokens on the board stop responding to user input as you watch the character walk to the goal... the problem is, on Level 221 this "auto-complete" mode begins before the path to the goal has been opened, and since it only ends when you reach the goal (the one that's unreachable), your character just walks in place forever (or until you quit the app, whichever comes first). The devs have known about this bug since at least 2017, and yet it's still in there as of January 2023. A discussion in the Community Hub explains that the "automatically finish level" feature can be disabled, allowing you to get past the bug, but i couldn't find this setting in my game (ima take a wild guess and say that it's available only for Windows users, not Mac). It seems to me that the first time i finished the game (on, like, the 6th try) it was just dumb luck that the various characters -- my avatar, the rival, and the boss -- just happened to be standing in locations that interrupted the auto-complete "loop," but i don't recall for sure. Whatever it was, it was tricky and unofficial, i remember that much. Maybe someday i'll try uninstalling and reinstalling the app to see if that helps, if i ever get the urge to play this game again. But right now i'm just not in the mood.
Ooohhh yes, 10/10. Massively addictive game. Oodles of strategy required, not just mindless match 3-ing. There MUST be a sequel! PLEASE!!
Well, can't remember playing this game...only that I refund it...so logical I can't recommend it.
this is a fun game that challenges you as well. I go back and play it often. You can take your time and plan your stategy - no hurry just a great game
This is a nice twist on the match-3 genre. You go from point A to point B, using various power ups and such. I highly recommend this addictive game.
