My apologies to Subsoap for taking so long to review this wonderful game! Another fun addicting game from Subsoap, who also did Faerie Solitaire, Faerie Solitaire Remastered and Faerie Solitaire Dire. If you buy Faerie Solitaire Remastered you also get the original, Faerie Solitaire for free. How cool is that? Innovative match-2 solitaire game. This is a bit like Faerie Solitaire but with enough improvements/changes to make it more addicting and different. Match two cards of either Reds or Blacks to make a match. If you make a match of 7 or more pairs you can replay the hand once, without having to pay for it. I try to challenge myself to see how many matches I can make before I have to draw from the deck or match red with black. Each area has 9 hands until you can release the Faerie. It's so cute when u save the faerie it comes back to say thank you. There is an option where u can use in-game money to have it say something at random and it's a nice surprise to see what it does come up with. There is a Quickplay mode you can play after you completed that location. There are higher rewards and a Loot Box to open at the end. If you fail a hand while playing you will have to pay and start the location over again from scratch. After several days of mostly breezing thru the levels I came to a stand still. I couldn't get past it and I was grinding for days and still stuck. I knew I was missing something important. I found how the "spare space" is a godsend. I put a card from the biggest pile and clear it as soon as I can. Now I'm breezing thru the game again (sometimes) and enjoying how addicting it is. I can now collect the resources needed to fully evolve my adorable and interesting looking pets. Matching the cards earns you Pure Gold and sometimes under the stacks of cards you can find Eggs, Gold, Mana and Potions. In the Library is where you can find Lore (intriguing story), Talents, and Valor (optional difficulty). It can be quite difficult at times and the use of upgrades, wild cards and the "spare slot" are essential on later levels, especially if you want to do chain matches for extra bonuses. In the Options Menu you have a lot of various choices. It's encouraging and helpful having the counters at the top so I always know where I stand. Once I've gotten at least a 7 card combo I know I will get a free deal if needed. Comes in very handy if missing just a few cards to finish the hand. Plus the added benefit of having more PG (pure gold). Pros: * 40 Locations with beautiful hand painted backgrounds * 360 Hand crafted card layouts * 32 Pets to collect with a brief lore to share * Adventure mode where you save the Faeries * Quickplay mode to replay locations and earn extra rewards * New Game+ mode with even greater rewards * 44 Achievements to earn * Excellent value for what you get and all the hours of addicting fun * Game is polished and bug free * Music compliments the game Cons: * No Trading cards Final Thoughts: Very addicting as you can tell by the numerous amount of hours I have played. lol. My favorite solitaire game and I have played a lot of them. Relaxing family game. Suitable for young and old alike. faerie solitaire harvest is a simple match-2 game. nothing to do with solitaire, but there's a lot of fluff to make it look more complex and interesting than it actually is. in the end though, it's very much like a 'free' mobile game that's grindy as ♥♥♥♥ and where everything costs in-game currency, including replaying levels before moving on to the next, or doing a quickplay of an already completed location from the world map. I'm surprised they let you quit or access the settings without paying. if you decide to shell out for the privilege to replay something, you still won't be able to replay individual levels, only full locations with 9 levels each, and the rewards during quickplay are random lootboxes. such fun. another baffling thing is, undo used to be in the game, but they decided to remove a 100% optional feature. both individual replays and undo are present in faerie solitaire remastered, so this is definitely a step back. well, two steps. this should be enough to deter people from wasting their time and money, but might as well go into more detail about what's on offer. so it's your average matching game, 360 levels in 40 locations, with the goal of removing every card from the board by pairing them up, though you can move on regardless if you get a silver rating at least. suit doesn't matter, only value and color, and while a black 7 and a red 7 still match, they also break combos, just like dealing cards from the deck if you have a 7+ combo going. wildcards can be earned by matching same-color pairs one after the other. only a single redeal is allowed and it's free. awful generous, seeing as the whole thing is a money sink (of course it used to cost money too, but you could bypass the fee by getting a 7+ combo). there's a 4th slot to bank an extra card, but only the first one put there is free. naturally. instead of the usual 10 or so power-ups and passive bonuses, there are 36(!) so-called talents to unlock and upgrade many times. they're divided into 3 categories (loot, knowledge, tactics), some are more useful than others and none of them are undo. besides money, you'll need talent points for most of them, awarded for completing locations and leveling up. it's possible to re-distribute them, but you'll only get the talent points back, not the money spent on unlocking the other thing. it'd be great if tooltips showed what they actually do, not just their names, and if affordable ones were marked differently. either and both would save a lot of unnecessary clicking. valor is a way to make your life more difficult for more benefits. there are 7 to unlock via challenges (they aren't explained, only hinted at) and toggle on/off as you please, but playing with them carries a redeal cost, so even that single one is not on the house. but by getting perfect levels, legendary combos, or clearing all the cards and whatnot, you get to disable wildcards or the spare slot, for instance, and get more money, xp and drops. except when I tried it, I ended up with less money after 9 levels due to redeal costs, and I even had a few completely cleared levels. I leveled up a bit, but cash money would've been preferable. your xp grows without any valors enabled too, albeit much more slowly. and finally, there's the oh-so-unnecessary (but optional, so whatever) pet evolving nonsense, a carbon copy of what's in faerie solitaire (probably down to the pets themselves). except you can't buy resources here because it would lessen the grind and lead to more fun, can't have that. the presentation is pretty much the same as faerie solitare as well, for better or worse, but some of the music is fantastic. despite the campaign being called 'adventure', there's no story this time, zero adventure, only lore entries found randomly while playing. they're more fleshed out than the ones in the previous game, though it's still just fluff and more doesn't automatically mean better, plus pet lore is still one sentence deep. it'd be better if clicking a category jumped to unread entries, once again saving on a lot of clicking. separate volume settings, windowed mode with a resizable window, v-sync, custom cursor and fps toggle are available, as well as the ability to re-color card faces and choose what kind of notifications you'd like to get (tutorial, pet, lore, etc.). like with most games, you can probably play through it once without worrying too much about anything (or in fact missing anything important), or spend an inordinate amount of time grinding resources and evolving pets for no particular reason or benefit. new game+ unlocks after completing the game, with more rewards and stuff, some only found there. I don't care about any of that and don't replay games in general, but save for a few really buggy and lazy attempts, this was the least fun I've had playing solitaire (and it's not even solitaire, but I like matching games too, so that's the least of its problems). stopped after 10 or so stages, couldn't imagine playing 30 more to finish the most incredibly dull and disappointing 'adventure'. you can't even look at the location backgrounds properly.
As a big fan of the original this was kinda disappointing. I was expecting it to be more like that, and while I appreciate them trying something different it just isn't that much fun for me. It's a weird mixture of a lack of mechanics (e.g. the locked or frozen cards or vines or whatever from the first game) making it get repetitive, at least for the first few hours, with too much complexity. The skill screen is a disaster, with no way to tell which ones you can currently afford, no useful information when you mouse over them, etc., and it just feels tedious grinding for resources to upgrade stuff compared to the other game. I hope Dire turns out better. I had some issues with the native Linux version not responding after losing focus, but the Windows version runs fine through Proton. Also the music is amazing and they need to sell the soundtrack so I can give them/the composer money for it (and so I can listen to it outside the game).
Recommended, but with some significant caveats. If you liked the original game, you'll feel at home with this one. However- the interesting features such as locked cards and vines are gone, replaced by new (often frustrating) layouts, Skill Trees, and Valors- ways to make the game more difficult with a "Valor" level that has to be leveled up to unlock. Valors are supposed to bring greater rewards with them, but the benefits seemed far outweighed by the sometimes significant limitations some of the Valors place on the player, leading to replaying some hands more than just a few times to pass them. No story as you play, like the original. Instead you unlock "Lore" that tells the story, often in an overdone and a bit too overblown of a way (at least in the English language version). NG+ levels are more difficult and contain more complex layouts, some of which are extremely difficult to pass even without any Valors applied, requiring a good bit of luck to get a good deal, and a good number of wild cards to get through. Valors can be changed at any time, but the changes only go into effect at the start of a new level, and last for the entire level, even if you deactivate the Valor midway through. The art is pretty, pretty much the same as the Faerie Solitaire Remastered version of the game. The music is fine, but repetitive. Drop rates for resources are pretty skimpy, especially considering the amount needed to evolve some of the pets, especially the higher tiers. It's a fine solitaire game, but far too much grind to make getting to NG+3 fun. Just grindy. Games that take a long time to complete =/= "good". Sometimes they just = "too much grind". Total hours played shows my time to grind to 100% completion. Others have done it in less (maybe without Valors applied?), others have taken much longer. Decent time waster, game autosaves when you quit and exit, so it is good for short sessions (you don;t have to replay an entire level if you exit midway through). Still, too grindy for my liking, with little reason to play once you unlock all of the Lore story bits, other than completing all achievements. Buy on sale, and expect to grind for a long time.
I like the concept of the game but there to many restrictions to play. Then when you finish it you have to play perfectly to keep playing or it costs you repeatedly. Not happy
Really nice solitaire game just like the previous one they made. If you care about getting all the achievements you will have to beat the game 3 times which can be a bit annoying, especially if done in a short time period, but if you take your time with it, it should be fine. Linux version of the game works without any issues.
I was quite a fan of the original Faerie Solitaire and I'm even more of a fan of the remastered version, so I expected to enjoy this one too. There I was wrong. The basic premise is that of matching identical pairs of cards to clear the board. Like Faerie Solitaire, the cards are various mythical creatures, and these ones are more detailed and also some of them quite scary looking as befits magical beings! You get extra points through matching identical cards e.g. Red Aces although you can also clear the board by matching the values but not the colour e.g. Red and Black Queen. Unlike the original Faerie Solitaire there seems to be very little story and there is also very little variation. Thus the game swiftly becomes repetitive. Also, like the original version of Faerie Solitaire you do collect pets and then resources to evolve these pets (sound familiar, Nintendo?) but the process of collecting and evolving is incredibly slow (something the remastered version of Faerie solitaire corrects). You also collect some gemstones which are called 'Lore' - presumably these are meant to flesh out the 'world' as you read little excerpts by clicking on them. Frankly, I thought this was all so boring that there wasn't any point - it could have been vastly improved if they had helped you unlock special abilities etc. All in all this game very quickly gets repetitive and without things to help you with the game play (the original had 'undo' and 'see next card' functions, and I can't see how the complicated system of 'valor' etc. helps with anything here) it swiftly becomes a grind. Personally, I wouldn't bother with this one unless you are just planning to play it for a 10 minute session in-between other things as perhaps then it won't seem too much of a slog. I would just buy the remastered original.
Buggy, and more like Majong then Solitaire. I loved previous Faerie Solitaire games, but this one is annoying. I am currently hours into the game and am not able to go any further. Just get a message that I "Failed" that level but doesn't give any info on how to pass it. Wish I could get a refund.
The least buggy/broken of the Faerie Solitaire games, but also the most boring. It's a real grind. I'm recommending it simply because it's the only finished one with achievable achievements.
