The Space Between is a surreal short narrative experience in three acts about the walls we build for us.

A super boring and ugly pseudo-intellectual game. It also has a super stupid achievement where you need to have the game running for 10 hours in one sitting, btw. the game is around 1 hour long.
Sometimes walls don't have to be out of matter.
This played more like a european arthouse film, and appeals more to modern artsy or philosophical people. A poetry visual novel/game that demands attention rather than seeking to entertain. The dialogue was extremely slow and ruined the experience for me, even though it was an artistic choice. But the last act made up for it. I was disturbed. It was jarring, creepy, surreal and leaves you more questions. How long it took me to beat: ~40 minutes. One-sitting.

An argument for video games as an art form. If you don't mind the game-play being what most would consider a walking simulator - and you enjoy PS1 era graphics, this is a compact existential/philosophical horror experience for fans of slow burn explorations of what it means to have a legacy and to be alive. (Per the mind of the creator) Not for everyone, but definitely for some.
the distance between the Self and the Other
The narrative points at a lot of philosophical ideas about boundaries (spiritual, cognitive, and corporeal), but I failed to find a real over-arching point to this experience. The English translation doesn't do a great job of conveying meaning, and the snail-paced dialog was grating, for me. The visual style, music, and horror ambiance were all quite good though.
I really enjoyed this game. Yeah, it's a slower game and demands a lot of attention to detail and dialog but if you like these "slow burn" kind of experiences with a somewhat surreal atmosphere and abstract concepts, then you'll love this game.
The Space Between is one of these atmospheric experiences, but something about this "game" really resonated with me. I absolutely adore the art style and vibe it has going for it. The imagery in this, while basic, is so dreamlike and haunting. Something is off about these buildings and rooms but there's also familiar comfort within them. At the same time, there's an uneasy, foreboding sense of dread that lurks beneath everything that perfectly accents its themes. I won't say too much about the story, and some might object to calling it a "story", but I would characterize it as a philosophical meditation on separation and connection (and if that string of words annoys you, you are definitely not going to appreciate this). Another reviewer likens it to a "european artfilm" which is absolutely spot on. I have a couple criticisms, primarily that it is sometimes unclear who is talking (though that honestly could be intentional/symbolic). Plus, it is quite short, taking less than an hour to complete (and there is a really stupid achievement for having the game run for 10 hours), so I'm not a fan of the $5.99 price. On sale however it gets down to $2.39 which I think is absolutely fair for what this is.
The Space Between is slow, tedious, and reeks of pretension. It doesn’t want to meet you at your level or be accessible. Although I admire being true to an artistic vision and not compromising, I can’t really say I felt anything stronger than mild annoyance while playing this game.
