Honestly, this game has got to be one of my favourite games like ever <3 Playing through all the routes, getting to know more about the mc and other characters, the story and the world it all takes place in, the various representation makes me love this game so much. My eyes were basically glued to the screen when I was playing^^ I'm definitely going to rant about this game to my friends! Also if someone would be asking me what my favourite visual novel/game is or which one should they play, I'd say "Repurpose" by Eros in a heartbeat
I may only be 2 hours into Repurpose so far [when writing this review], but I absolutely love the way the game has come so far since its original demo years ago. The entire team has provided such an amazing experience, and worked so hard to give a fun vibe in a meaningful and intriguing manner for this visual novel. If these first few story beats are any indication for the rest of the way - both my current path [toward Utopia] and in any other paths I'll walk down afterward - it'll be amazing to see it all through. The writing is clever, not just from the imaginative take on the Limbo and the heaven/hell dynamic, but comedic in how it tells the story. The voice actors enhance the main beats and are a charm to listen to, and the art showing the characters and backgrounds is impressive throughout. Not to mention that it's an awesomely diverse cast, not just in terms of race and background, but with the characters' gender and sexuality too. Repurpose is a worthy addition to your Steam library, and both the team behind its creation and the cast that help showcase it really convey how much love they bring toward the game they put out.
this game is adorable and fire i LOVEEE ramón and noel, can they both be my partners
This game is genuinely one of the best if not the best Visual Novel I have ever played. As a trans woman I have never been more happy because of this visual novel's truly amazing ability to allow myself a great level of immersion with it's portrayal of a trans protagonist. Love you DJ!
I did enjoy the read, while I have not finished all endings, I did get the "true ending", I appreciate the representation and diverse cast of characters.
Personally I did have some issue with the "true ending", feeling like I was more just there as others solved the problem, especially the kinda out of nowhere Adam. I also very much felt like I was "just" a political pawn for Utopia and Hell to play with, but I guess that also kinda is what your character is created to be?
Outside of my minor issues and they by no means drag the game down, I very much enjoyed the read and wish I could spend some more time with the friends and lovers made along the way.
Noel is the ace representation i needed all my life

this game is so peak :3
I don't have much playtime (yet), but I still wish to get the review out there already while my thoughts are still fresh on my mind after my first playthrough in which I chose Ramón to be the chosen hubby here. Starting the game, I was a bit hesitant to continue, because some of the messaging is instantly right in your face. I'm not talking about representation, but more so some political(?) views (however right they might be), so I was put off by the whole preachy thing we had going right from the get-go. However, I am glad that I just rolled my eyes and soldiered on, because it was very much worth doing so. I had a great time playing Ramón's path and solving the mystery of my own death-- and I quite enjoyed how Hell was portrayed as well as Limbo. I can't say much about Heaven/Utopia since I haven't played any of the routes yet and since it brings me to the next issue; some of the romance options are personally just not appealing to me. Though, that doesn't mean they're bad love interests-- some of them just really didn't click with me, so there I was going for the obvious choice of Ramón, while eyeing Faye and Noel as any potential next romance options to play through. I just personally enjoy something a bit more edgy than quirky or cringy (again, in my personal opinion of course). Which leads to the next problem of there being no achievements. If I like a game enough, I usually play through the other paths even if I don't find myself particularly interested in the love interest/romance option initially. Since achievements are a good motivation to still do it just to complete the game/said achievements. It often leads to me falling in love with characters I first brushed off, but with a lack of achievements there's just not enough motivation for me to actually read through some of the paths the game has to offer. Again, that might be a personal issue, but I still wanted to point it out. Adding achievements might be a good incentive for all sorts of people to actually read through all the stories you so carefully crafted and try to tell. But this review is still a positive one despite everything I said so far. Because, again, I had a great time with my first playthrough and am somewhat confident that the other two routes I find myself interested in will be just as good (already started one, although haven't finished it yet, I just really wanted to get this review out lol)-- the writing, aside from the preachy parts, is actually nice and feels natural. I especially enjoyed how DJ Roadkill was written-- a character type I can't get along with usually seeing how I'm mostly a stickler to rules and structure myself-- since it just felt natural and "human" in how Roadkill interacted with the people around them. It made them endearing to me, despite everything I already said. Could have done without the fourth wall breaking, though. Even when I'm sure some of the backers probably appreciated it. Without spoiling anything, I also quite enjoyed some of the heavier topics discussed or mentioned. Whether it is your main love interest or just an NPC, if you have the option to chat with them, you probably should, because it's all worth it. Another thing is how you set up your character or MC. This is not the first game to give you the option to choose your pronouns or even let you choose whether you are trans or not-- going with a trans male MC, I was positively surprised how often it actually came up within the story and how it played out in different situations without it ever being "too much" focus on my chosen gender. I'm more so used to such details just being mostly decorative than actually being integrated into the story throughout the game in various instances. It was a very nice balance of it being important to who my MC was without being constantly going on about it like it's all my MC is. Well done on that one. Tipping my hat and all that. The art is very pretty to look at. Whether it's the sprites for the characters or the backgrounds. Same goes for the UI. My eyes were very happy and pleased. And even though I said that I didn't find myself interested in basically most of the romance options, I can still very much appreciate some of their designs. Every character feels unique in some way and while I have no interest in dating them, I can still acknowledge how beautifully they've been designed. There's probably a lot I'm forgetting in the process of writing this all out, but this review is already long enough. What's the end result? Give it a try. If there's even just one character within the cast that caught your eye, it's probably worth it to pick up the game even for that one character alone. Especially during a sale.
Curious about what could happen after someone goes to the afterlife. Repurpose can show you a possibility.
