About
"Ren'ai 0 Kilometer" is a novel game with choices.
The ending will change depending on the choices you make. Through a limited-time family swap, the protagonist spends time with his childhood friend, deepening his relationship with a cute girl and enjoying special conversations.

The Yazaki and Kinomoto families live next door to each other.
The Yazakis are four brothers raised by their father, and the Kinomotos are five sisters raised by their mother. Both families have long wished for the child they never had: the Yazakis want a daughter, and the Kinomotos want a son.
One day, the parents come up with a wild idea: "Let's each trade one of our kids and have them live with the other family for three months!” And so, the Yazaki's second son, Kyouichi, and the Kinomoto's second daughter, Sakuya, switch places and begin their new swapped lives.
The lively Kinomoto sisters are unsure how to treat Kyouichi at first—calling him "onii-chan" feels strange—but they gradually warm up to him. Kyouichi, for his part, is overwhelmed by life in a house full of girls. But even through the chaos, he begins to feel something he's never felt before: the warmth of a family.
The three-month deadline draws near. As Kyouichi, Sakuya, and their families spend time together, they begin to realize just how important they've become to each other.
When the time is up... will they go back to their old lives, or choose something new?

●Mayo Kinomoto, VA: Maya Suzuya
The cool and confident eldest sister.
She doesn't do chores at home, but serves as the dependable student council president at school. She's deeply protective of her sisters and was originally against the family exchange plan. However, she reluctantly agrees to the three-month trial after their mother insists.
Living with a boy for the first time proves to be full of unexpected heart-pounding moments...

●Sakuya Kinomoto, VA: Soyogi Tohno
The tsuntsun and headstrong second sister. She's in the same class as the protagonist.
She's secretly had a crush on him for years, though he's completely oblivious. Everyone around them, however, knows exactly how she feels.
She's upset about being sent to live next door in Kyouichi's place and can't help feeling jealous of her sisters who now get to live with him.

●Misaki Kinomoto, VA: Nazuna Gogyo
The kind and gentle third sister, always looking out for others.
She's modest and usually lets others take the spotlight. She's in the same class as the protagonist. Sakuya is her twin sister, but their personalities couldn't be more different—except for one thing: she's also been in love with Kyouichi for a long time.
But knowing how Sakuya feels, she's kept her own feelings hidden.

●Nokia Kinomoto, VA: Miyu Isuzu
The energetic and mischievous fourth sister.
She's always full of life and loves to make people laugh. She was thrilled about the family swap idea and excited to finally have a big brother.
She loves teasing her sisters and often cracks dirty jokes just to see their embarrassed reactions, usually leading to a lot of sisterly squabbles.

●Hana Kinomoto, VA: Misono Moriya
The sharp-tongued youngest sister.
She dislikes loud people and places, often getting into verbal fights with her noisy sister Nokia. Despite all the bickering, she looks up to her sisters and secretly feels proud to be part of the family.
She's a tsundere at heart. Even when she likes someone, she'll insist she doesn't.

Depending on which character you go after, the romance and the whole family dynamic going haywire thing felt really different. Personally, the second-oldest daughter's tsundere thing was a bit much for me. I like more straightforward love stories. Not that I need her to be all lovey-dovey 24/7, it's more like... she was just too mean? That said, overall it was a pretty fun time. If you're into comedy in your dating game, this is honestly a solid buy. And if you're in the mood for that old-school slice of life anime atmosphere, definitely put this on your list. Oh, and install the patch. Seriously. There's some pretty important dialogue tucked in there, and those moments where you realize "oh wow, she actually really likes me" hit so much harder with the patch. It was a huge improvement tbh
Pros: Character writing is exceptionally sharp. All five sisters have distinct personalities, and the sheer volume of dialogue is impressive and genuinely funny throughout. What people now recognize as ASa Project's signature conversational style was already fully formed here. The voice cast deserves special mention. Every actor, supporting roles included, commits fully to the comedic energy of their character. The theme songs used for each character are immersive and add that special touch. The translations hold up well too, with the English version managing to preserve most of the humor from the Japanese original, which is no small feat. Cons: The engine shows its age. As a port of an older title, the UI feels dated next to modern visual novels. Save and load functions, along with text skipping, could do with some smoothing out. There is also some unevenness across the routes. Sakuya's route in particular unravels a bit, with plot developments that feel somewhat forced. The character's behavior in some areas can feel inconsistent or frustrating. Final thoughts: These are minor blemishes on an otherwise polished game. If you have a genuine appreciation for moe and slice-of-life, or wholesome comedic visual novels with romantic elements, this is well worth the price. Just don't go in expecting something weighty or solemn. Approach it as a light, heartwarming read, and it will reward you handsomely.
If you're into lively romcoms, a fun cast of quirky characters, and that warm family bond kind of story, this one might be right up your alley. The "0 kilometers" in the title makes sense once you play it, because you're really right up in the girls' space for the whole thing (except the other daughter that gets exchanged but that's a different story lol) Personally I was lowkey hoping for a mom route. Can we get some MILF dlc please? She's adorable and sweet and just the right amount of insane. She raised some cute girls too. You have to have a high tolerance for wacky comedy. The premise doesn't make sense, but that's the point I think... Parents swapping their kids is a pretty wild way to kick things off, and the story just runs with it at full speed. If you can't turn your brain off and treat it as just a goofy comedy you might not like it. But I thought it was fun.
It was crazy looking up when this came out originally, 15 years ago, and it shows that ASa Project was still in its baby steps back then. I would say nor the story nor the characters flow that well here (with some exceptions) but you can see a lot of signs of what would become the foundation of the signature writing style that their recent releases have. The setting in itself was good but the routes were kind of a mixed bag for me. Mayo's kind of went nowhere but it was funny at least. Misaki's was a bit all over the place, it was not bad but was not super engaging either. Sakuya's, which we can more or less consider the true route had some bits I really disliked (looking at you, certain river scene), other than that she was great when being a total degenerate. Hana's I consider very well-written when it comes to its overall flow, it felt very logical and natural. Nokia's was surprising in many ways, she behaved quite unpredictably and in the grand scheme of things there was another plot thread going on behind the scenes which I think I have not seen being done in many years. These last two routes were definitely on the better end of the spectrum but everyone has their good points, especially due to the masterful voice acting. The soundtrack barely registered for me, there are not many and so they got old fast. In some of the CGs the hands look extremely weird and once you keep focusing on them you can not unsee it. Translation is very good, I can count the mistakes I found on one hand. What I disliked a lot was all technical, kind of Tayutama level of neutered with a super dated engine, saving and loading is strangely slow, there is no proper skip only fast forward and to top it all, Hai's route is missing, I know she is only a side character and not a sister but it would have been nice to get the full package of this release instead of missing out. So yeah, overall I recommend a read if you can get over the technical datedness, and definitely pick up the free patch, I liked that the H-scenes were not super drawn out, they were pretty much to the point and add some extra hours of overall run time.
