About
"Ren'ai 0 Kilometer" is a novel game with choices.
The ending will change depending on the choices you make. Through a limited-time family swap, the protagonist spends time with his childhood friend, deepening his relationship with a cute girl and enjoying special conversations.

The Yazaki and Kinomoto families live next door to each other.
The Yazakis are four brothers raised by their father, and the Kinomotos are five sisters raised by their mother. Both families have long wished for the child they never had: the Yazakis want a daughter, and the Kinomotos want a son.
One day, the parents come up with a wild idea: "Let's each trade one of our kids and have them live with the other family for three months!” And so, the Yazaki's second son, Kyouichi, and the Kinomoto's second daughter, Sakuya, switch places and begin their new swapped lives.
The lively Kinomoto sisters are unsure how to treat Kyouichi at first—calling him "onii-chan" feels strange—but they gradually warm up to him. Kyouichi, for his part, is overwhelmed by life in a house full of girls. But even through the chaos, he begins to feel something he's never felt before: the warmth of a family.
The three-month deadline draws near. As Kyouichi, Sakuya, and their families spend time together, they begin to realize just how important they've become to each other.
When the time is up... will they go back to their old lives, or choose something new?

●Mayo Kinomoto, VA: Maya Suzuya
The cool and confident eldest sister.
She doesn't do chores at home, but serves as the dependable student council president at school. She's deeply protective of her sisters and was originally against the family exchange plan. However, she reluctantly agrees to the three-month trial after their mother insists.
Living with a boy for the first time proves to be full of unexpected heart-pounding moments...

●Sakuya Kinomoto, VA: Soyogi Tohno
The tsuntsun and headstrong second sister. She's in the same class as the protagonist.
She's secretly had a crush on him for years, though he's completely oblivious. Everyone around them, however, knows exactly how she feels.
She's upset about being sent to live next door in Kyouichi's place and can't help feeling jealous of her sisters who now get to live with him.

●Misaki Kinomoto, VA: Nazuna Gogyo
The kind and gentle third sister, always looking out for others.
She's modest and usually lets others take the spotlight. She's in the same class as the protagonist. Sakuya is her twin sister, but their personalities couldn't be more different—except for one thing: she's also been in love with Kyouichi for a long time.
But knowing how Sakuya feels, she's kept her own feelings hidden.

●Nokia Kinomoto, VA: Miyu Isuzu
The energetic and mischievous fourth sister.
She's always full of life and loves to make people laugh. She was thrilled about the family swap idea and excited to finally have a big brother.
She loves teasing her sisters and often cracks dirty jokes just to see their embarrassed reactions, usually leading to a lot of sisterly squabbles.

●Hana Kinomoto, VA: Misono Moriya
The sharp-tongued youngest sister.
She dislikes loud people and places, often getting into verbal fights with her noisy sister Nokia. Despite all the bickering, she looks up to her sisters and secretly feels proud to be part of the family.
She's a tsundere at heart. Even when she likes someone, she'll insist she doesn't.

If you're into lively romcoms, a fun cast of quirky characters, and that warm family bond kind of story, this one might be right up your alley. The "0 kilometers" in the title makes sense once you play it, because you're really right up in the girls' space for the whole thing (except the other daughter that gets exchanged but that's a different story lol) Personally I was lowkey hoping for a mom route. Can we get some MILF dlc please? She's adorable and sweet and just the right amount of insane. She raised some cute girls too. You have to have a high tolerance for wacky comedy. The premise doesn't make sense, but that's the point I think... Parents swapping their kids is a pretty wild way to kick things off, and the story just runs with it at full speed. If you can't turn your brain off and treat it as just a goofy comedy you might not like it. But I thought it was fun.
It was crazy looking up when this came out originally, 15 years ago, and it shows that ASa Project was still in its baby steps back then. I would say nor the story nor the characters flow that well here (with some exceptions) but you can see a lot of signs of what would become the foundation of the signature writing style that their recent releases have. The setting in itself was good but the routes were kind of a mixed bag for me. Mayo's kind of went nowhere but it was funny at least. Misaki's was a bit all over the place, it was not bad but was not super engaging either. Sakuya's, which we can more or less consider the true route had some bits I really disliked (looking at you, certain river scene), other than that she was great when being a total degenerate. Hana's I consider very well-written when it comes to its overall flow, it felt very logical and natural. Nokia's was surprising in many ways, she behaved quite unpredictably and in the grand scheme of things there was another plot thread going on behind the scenes which I think I have not seen being done in many years. These last two routes were definitely on the better end of the spectrum but everyone has their good points, especially due to the masterful voice acting. The soundtrack barely registered for me, there are not many and so they got old fast. In some of the CGs the hands look extremely weird and once you keep focusing on them you can not unsee it. Translation is very good, I can count the mistakes I found on one hand. What I disliked a lot was all technical, kind of Tayutama level of neutered with a super dated engine, saving and loading is strangely slow, there is no proper skip only fast forward and to top it all, Hai's route is missing, I know she is only a side character and not a sister but it would have been nice to get the full package of this release instead of missing out. So yeah, overall I recommend a read if you can get over the technical datedness, and definitely pick up the free patch, I liked that the H-scenes were not super drawn out, they were pretty much to the point and add some extra hours of overall run time.
Adorable & hilarious! The humor is definitely the best part of the game for me. Some of the jokes are pretty shocking, especially the wild stuff that comes out of Nokia's mouth!! As the description says, the protagonist ends up living with a house of girls. I like the intimacy of seeing the home lives of all the girls and their relationships with each other. It's a small touch but I loved that all the girls have casual home outfits that show their real personality more than their school uniforms. It really feels like you're living with a bunch of cute girls. The personalities and appearances of the girls are all varied and the art is so nice. It gives me all the nostalgic anime feels. For cons, the UI was a little confusing to me and unintuitive, but there are plenty of features when you figure it out. Overall the story, characters, and clever writing are well worth the purchase and will keep you engaged.
As someone who’s been a fan of ASa Project’s modern VNs, I was really interested in finally trying the one that put them on the map back in 2011. Ren’ai 0 Kilometer is the first entry in the “Ren’ai” series by ASa Project, known for over-the-top “bakage” comedy in later titles like Sanaku Ren’ai, Koikari, and Futamata Ren’ai. Unfortunately, going back to this earlier game after ASa Project had perfected their humor and moege style makes it feel clearly like a product of its time: a halfway point between a generic 2000s character-driven moege (think Hoshizora no Memoria, Princess Evangile) and the absurd comedy they’re now famous for. Instead of a smooth blend, you get writing whiplash across its 15–20 hours.
Mostly Solid Common Route
ASa Project’s common routes are often their strongest element, and that’s true here... but not at first. The opening hour is painfully generic: a dense protagonist, tsundere characters hitting him for “comedy,” an obnoxious pervert little brother, and a standard childhood-friend setup. Thankfully, things pick up with the actual premise starts, aka a temporary family swap between next-door neighbors: a widowed dad with four sons and a widowed mom with five daughters. Each wants a child of the opposite gender, so they literally exchange one for a few months. Naturally, the protagonist goes to the all-girl family, while one tomboy twin goes to the all-guy family. Once the swap happens, the comedy finally lands. The excitable mom Kisa forces her daughters to treat the protagonist as a real brother, and watching everyone awkwardly adjust makes for endearing chaos. Characters like Nokia shine with goofy faces, trolling, and self-aware pervy jokes. There’s still some unfunny protagonist abuse, but the humor improves overall. What’s unexpected is how the common route sometimes takes the family swap premise seriously, showing how an “adopted” new member of the opposite gender affects everyone’s comfort and connection. Each main heroine even has small character arcs within the common route, and the theme of shifting family dynamics leads to genuine wholesome moments.
Disappointing Heroines and Routes
Once the individual routes start, the cracks show. ASa Project’s routes are notoriously short, and while some have decent potential for drama, the writing and characters often feel half-baked. All five heroines are next-door childhood friends, which sounds good on paper to me, but most of their personalities lean too hard into 2000s anime stereotypes. The youngest, Hana, is my least favorite: rude, abrasive, and the embodiment of annoying tsundere/kuudere gags. Her route shows a justifiable reason for her behavior to the MC specifically, but undercuts it with constant unfunny abuse and a weak ending. The eldest sister, Mayo, fares better with her “perfect” student council president façade that hides a lazy homebody. Her contrast is fun, but her route barely develops her beyond the amusing romance arc, and weirdly gives Hana more growth than Hana’s own route. Nokia easily stands out as the best heroine to me. She’s a chaotic tomboy gremlin with legendary meme faces, the funniest dialogue, and feels the most like an Asa Project heroine. Her route also digs into her father’s death and how her clownish behavior masks emotional pain. Route-specific supporting character Onigawara is a surprisingly great compelling foil to Nokia. Sadly Nokia's route stumbles with inconsistent humor, an undeserved “romance” subplot involving the obnoxious pervert brother Honda, and a poorly handled dark twist that needed better setup and payoff. The twins, Misaki and Sakuya, are clearly positioned as the “true” heroines. Misaki is a very typical deredere nice girl archetype, unremarkable but one of the most likable by default since she’s the only one who treats the protagonist decently. Her route, however, adds a forced twin drama twist that added a lame aspect to Misaki, and the twin love triangle drama was just kinda mediocre. Sakuya, more clearly the true heroine, is a textbook modern tsundere: switching between angry physical abuse but also very obvious signs she's smitten for the guy. Thankfully she can be genuinely funny, especially when her thirst for the MC gets unexpectedly degenerate. Her childhood-friend neighbor window chats offer great chemistry, but her overdone temper and physical “comedy” make her exhausting at times. Still, her route handles the humor and twin love triangle drama better that Misaki's route, gives secondary characters meaningful roles, and leans into showing Sakuya's flaws effectively, even if it stops short of actually developing her.
Side Characters
The all-girls’ family mom, Kisa, often feels more like a classic ASa Project heroine than her daughters and delivers consistent laughs. I wish one of her daughters had a personalities more similar to hers. Himuroya, Misaki’s best friend, is a side character who actually her own route in the console version of Ren'ai 0 Kilometer in Japan, but is sadly absent from this Steam release. Which is a shame because I thought she was funnier and more likable than most of the main cast. The MC's family, the Yazaki's, were servicable but largely forgettable. Except Honda, he was easily my least favorite character in the VN, because of his repetitive obnoxious horny pervert jokes.
The Flawed Steam Engine
Normally I don’t nitpick technical aspects, but this port’s engine deserves mention. The English translation by Kawaiinium appears based on a Switch-oriented build, which sadly sacrifices basic PC visual novel features.

There's no option to keep audio playing when the game is minimized. This feature is just always disabled.
The constant “Save system data?” prompt after nearly every action (Saving, Editing Options, Finishing a Route) is tedious.
The holding “Ctrl = skip” shortcut doesn’t exist on this engine, so skipping H-scenes requires toggling menu settings manually.
These sound minor but quickly become irritating, especially for PC readers used to standard VN conveniences.
Conclusion: Too Much Whiplash for a Comedy VN
Ren’ai 0 Kilometer had the makings of a fun early ASa Project gem. Parts of the common route and a few heroine routes show flickers of the developer’s future brilliance. But the tonal inconsistency, weak character routes, and frustratingly inconsistent humor make it a slog. While some jokes genuinely land, too many rely on dated harem gags or characters abusing the MC. The drama, even when promising, rarely sticks the landing or leads to satisfying growth. And with the visual novel only being around 15-20 hours for most readers, there’s not enough breathing room for the better ideas to flourish. Ren’ai 0 Kilometer is readable and occasionally enjoyable, but it’s easily the weakest of ASa Project’s translated titles, in my opinion. If you want something consistently funny and more polished, read any of the translated Asa Project titles by Nekonyan. If you want a moege to actually focused on character-focused writing well, go with something like Kinkoi, If My Heart Had Wings, or anything from Yuzusoft. Between the uneven tone and cumbersome engine, I can only recommend Ren'ai 0 Kilometer to the most hardcore ASa Project completionists.
继2025年先后拿下「Lump of Sugar」(方糖社)开发的“游魂”系列2部作品《游魂 -Kiss on my Deity-》、《游魂-It's happy days-》的代理后,很快又在2026年1月份获得了「ASa Project」(颜艺社)开发的美少女恋爱游戏《恋爱0公里》代理。
