Stop that! It's silly!
What the hell was this? Sport dating... as in dating sports... After dating pigeons, cats, bunnies, monsters... eh, why not? It could be fun, I thought. It could be wacky, I thought. Well, it was wacky alright, so forcefully wacky that it wasn't much fun at all. My Dream Sport Dating Simulator is a comedy game, but my god, I don't think I laughed once. You're a sport(!) and you enroll the school for sports to become the next big thing. Then you meet others and hilarity ensues :| That's it. That's the story. Except, I didn't find it very hilarious. Oh, and this is supposedly a dating sim. Well, there's no dating either. There are 7 characters you can interact with and they will react positively or not to your choices (so like 'love points' in a dating sim), but 'routes' are extremely short. To get one ending for a character takes 20-30 minutes. The 'dating' consists of random jokes, some references and a lot of 4th wall breaking. You also get one mini game per route of varying annoyingness. Actually I loved the 80s training montage and the library one. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2498001155 Characters are sports personifications and all have exactly one trait that makes them also fill various high school tropes. Polo is a stuck up librarian and a student council president; he's also a horse (I mean, centaur). Another elite, Tennis is a spoiled rich mean girl. She was probably my 'favourite', cause the more I insulted her, the more she liked me. That was nice (still didn't get her good end though). Martial Arts has a nice design, always frozen in mid kick (or is it high?). I think I missed a lot of his fortune cookie wisdom because his crotch was constantly in my face (static sprite syndrome). Chess is a self-proclaimed revolutionary and a fighter for intellectual sports. She's full of some absurd convoluted strategies and also strikes me as a SJW parody. Football is the most popular boy in school, 'sponsors' kid and also corrupt as hell. Extreme Sports is the action chick and your childhood friend; otherwise I didn't find her very memorable. Aquatic Sports is a boring teacher's pet, but she's an
alien(!)
. Basically, everything about characters is already on the store page description, there's nothing more to them in the game. At the start, you choose your name, erm your sport actually, and how you want to be addressed ("Sir, Madame, Sex Machine..."), basically pronouns. Considering that among other sports there are 3 male and 4 (or 3?) female characters, this should be a LGBTQ friendly game. But there's such a confusion throughout the game with the way this is used. For example, one character is referred as 'he' and 'she' in the same sentence. Since this is maybe(?) a non-binary character, it might be on purpose, but why not use 'they' in that case. Is it deliberate, a joke again? Is it just a typo? I don't know. But I know this, it doesn't matter how I, as a player, want to be referred to, I will often be addressed as a 'he' out of nowhere, and ending chibi drawings will show me as a boy(?). So, what's the point of that choice then? https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2497996936 All characters have two endings, good and bad. On my first playthrough I got bad ending for every single character bar one, even though I did all things right for most of them, even did mini games without mistakes. I guess that's supposed to be funny. There is a way to get good endings, which I discovered later, although I'm still not sure how exactly I got them. There's supposedly a bonus system indicated by the sun or rain icons near characters' drawings on the map where you chose who to interact with. At first I didn't even notice that cause the game didn't tell you anything about it (at least before the update and the introduction of challenge and casual modes, but it's still vague). But you can get the hint on the store page description, something you read once before even beginning the game and to which you usually don't come back, certainly not for a tutorial. And even with this, it's still rather convoluted and annoying, not to mention unintuitive, skipping through it all to get those good endings just to get achievements basically. Because, whether good or bad, it doesn't really matter, the content is 98% the same. The only difference is in the few lines and in animated chibi drawings you get for good endings. I still have no idea if those mini games determine anything. When you get endings for all characters (good or bad), you have a choice: polyamory or monogamy (which is the same for every character). Well, spoiler: they're both game overs, joke endings, like this whole game. Lucky are those (not me) who encountered a bug with all the achievements unlocking at once. They didn't have to chase all those endings, which, btw, inflated my playing time with all the skipping and trying different things. The game is actually even shorter which coupled with the price, loads of typos, irritatingly 'fun' music, extremely static sprites and no CGs (unless you count chibi drawings) - all make it hard to recommend. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2498019503 But why am I even wasting space on this? It doesn't matter, none of it matters. It's all about jokes. Since there's no story and no dating, what is there? Being a comedy, and not having anything else to offer, this game lives or dies on its humour. Unfunny randomness, forceful wackiness, that's how I would describe it. Unnaturally quirky and 'insane', there's constant fourth wall breaking and meta on top of meta (meta squared) rambling and sidetracking. Even though the running joke about multiple narrators and their existential crisis was mildly amusing, it all becomes exhausting and annoying after a while, well actually, very quickly. There are satirical jokes that hit the target with the right context and timing, but there are so many of them, piling one after another, with no room to breathe, that most of them fall flat. An exercise in how to ruin a joke. And I usually love 'random' and absurdist humour; I mean, I adore Monty Python. I know humour is subjective, like everything else actually, but some jokes may look funnier in your own head. This desperately needed a brake, or someone to put a stop when it got too unhinged and silly... like The Colonel. So I will end this review with Monty Python Graham Chapman's quote: Nobody likes a good laugh more than I do.... but please... Stop that! It's silly!

Reviewed by Drugoja In The Dreaming

Curator copy via Otome Sekai
Puuh this is a really strange VN. The premise of the story alone is pretty crazy, but the entire writing and dialogue is very over the top and doesnt take itself serious at all. This could be a recipe for a fun time, however it never got me to laugh and just didnt fit my humor. Furthermore this game takes your choices into account and also tells you if you picked the right or wrong choices however even if you only pick the right choices you will still get the bad endings which is really frustrating. The only way from what I can tell to get a good ending is to use the suns that pop up at some of the characters at the choice on who to meet up with (this mechanic is mentioned in the description). There are also some small minigames for some of the characters, which some can be alright, but the one for aquatic sports for example is just frustrating as the time to react sometimes is just impossible if you are unlucky and one error completely destroys your try for the minigame. I also dont like that it doesnt really matter if you get the good ending or the bad ending as there just isnt an ending at all. Its just a did you do good or not indicator and you get an achievement. There is no extra story or anything though. Also the game is actually really short like you can finish your first route in maybe around 30 minutes. The art itself is also only average, except for the cute chibi versions of the characters I liked those. The Translation is alright, but still has some minor mistakes and the wording sometimes isnt quite right, but that shouldnt be a reason to put you off of playing it. Overall, it just didnt hit my sense of humor and everything else about this VN is just very average. It also is quite expensive considering that you can finish it really fast and mixed with the frustration that some mechanics caused my I just didnt really had much fun playing it. I wouldnt say that it is a bad game per se, but it isnt a game that I personally enjoyed much. If you yourself however like quirky and super weird and wacky stories then you might like it for what it is. There atleast isnt anything that was a big negative against it that would get me to give it a thumbs down, it just also didnt offer anything that would get me to actually recommend it. Score: 5/10 since it just is well average for me :) Check out my Curator Page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/34401214/
Follow Far2close - Visual Novel Playthroughs Curator Page My Dream Sport Dating Simulator Developer: Curse Box Studios, Curse Box Alt Publisher: Curse Box Studios Pros: 1. I felt that the characters had some pretty distinguishable personalities, even if exaggerated. Their motives for their actions fit in well for each of them. 2. The mini games were all diverse from one another ranging from puzzles, rhythm games, item grabbers, and the one homage to "Papers, Please". The developers did try their best to implement these while having them make sense in the long run. 3. The little chibis were cute with a variety of different facial expressions. Neutrals: 1. The humor didn't get me at all personally, it kinda felt very random, sort of like the humor style of The Simpsons (modern) or Family Guy, American Dad. However, I did appreciate the references to Resident Evil. Cons: 1. The story is just the bare minimum, nothing really outstanding. You go to school, choose the character you want to go for, and work up towards their end. Aside from the sports themed characters, it doesn't have anything to be memorable. 2. The character routes are extremely short, granting you to finish a route or several in under an hour, depending on your reading speed. It was at least enough to time to get a grasp on who they were. 3. The ending (where it requires you to finish all character routes), did not feel impactful at all. It was basically either you solidify your choice in a person, or go for the all character orgy, then everyone leaves. 4. The sprites you see in the game, are what you get. They are static and do not possess any different poses or facial expressions. I also wish there were some CG art aside from the endings to enhance the experience a bit more, rather than us having to rely on detailed imagination a majority of the game. 5. Upon first installing and booting up the game, almost all the Steam achievements unlocked. (bug) 6. Looking at the credits from the main menu sends you into the game after the credits roll out. (bug) 7. It feels a little odd to see the actual default renpy UI layout for a commercial product. Especially something for $9.99. Conclusion: My Dream Sport Dating Simulator is an attempt to bring a comedic take to dating your desired sport, but with all the mini games, the premise, pop culture jokes, and characters; there is some flash but very little substance. Score: 5/10 NOT RECOMMENDED
<-- Review written for 3 Point Play -->
Sport Dating Simulator is pretty much as it the title implies, a little comedic sport-themed dating simulator, you'll be literally dating anthropomorfized versions of a few sports, like Football, Polo, Tennis and a few other more far-fetched ones such as the concept of Aquatic Sports, Extreme Sports and even Chess (which actually is the most appealing of the whole bunch) Now, I've mentioned you'll be literally dating, but that's kinda not what you'll be doing, at least, I don't think any date I've ever had was like what's presented in the VN: For instance, Chess' storyline has both you and her trying to start a revolution in order for intellectual sports to be recognized as proper sports, that's a pretty interesting commentary by the way, I didn't really like sports until I was like 15 or so, but I always liked playing chess, and I was pretty happy once I found out it actually was a sport, but most people actually fail to recognize that. You'll also be doing some mini-games, such as dancing 80's music, picking up plants whose fruit is actually a little box of french fries, or doing some librarianship (I actually liked that one on a personal aspect) The objective of the game is to achieve all endings for all the characters in a single run in order to unlock the final day in the story, which I'd guess has an epilogue. The story is pretty charming, and the plot is mainly a comedy. The visual novel aspects of the game are presented in a pretty unique way, as all characters only have 1 sprite each, but they also have a chibi representation of themselves in the UI where the text is displayed to portray their different emotions. Overall, I'd say it's a really compelling little story if you're feeling like reading something that has no issue not taking itself seriously at all. I found myself laughing a few times through the reading I've done so far, specially when they mention the "ghetto blaster", I find that kind of slang really amusing. Would like to see more from Chess someday, she's cute.
I wish I could forget about this game.
The art of the game si really cute and the character make you simp for them hahaha. The story is fun and weird. The developers listen to the player opinions and make updates frecuently.
I have been playing a little bit this game, is pretty funny, the chibi art make me laugh a lot. The music is actually very good too and the story has many diferents routs and interesting and funny characters.
Bizarre and interesting history 10/10
