I played well over a dozen of the Mystery Case Files games back in the day before I left BF games and made Steam my gaming home. This is a great series with great storylines. This game, however, can be played without having played any of the other games as it's more of a stand alone game. You can right click on the Nvidia message that might pop and click to NOT show any more messages like this from Nvidia and then you can go 'full screen' with a black border on the left and right sides. There were so many very popular MCF games like Madame Fate 2013 - (the 2nd of the two in the series with all the Rube Goldberg puzzles), Dire Grove, and my favorite story-wise - Return to Ravenhearst. But oh my, 15 years ago those h.o. scenes were such junk piles with tiny objects to find. They are far better in this game and the graphics are far better. The addition of FMV characters makes the game much more immersive and the most enjoyable in the series, imho. The Pirate theme was a fun departure from the rest of the series. This was the boldest of all the MCF games I have played and among the longest as well. Very enjoyable classic point and click HOG. I truly enjoyed playing this game again after so many years! The intricate treasure hunt with the map puzzle and the bonus chapter solving the mystery were my favorite puzzles of the whole series. For those who enjoy point and click HOGS - Recommended!
Excellent HOG, the use of FMV really highlights this game and made it a ton of fun. The game plays as a series of mini-quests which I find enjoyable and keeps you from feeling lost in such a huge map! HO scenes are decent and puzzles are a bit more puzzlely than normal but still enjoyable. Characters are awesome, they all have various crazy personalities, Cooter even farts! There was a very cool puzzle where I had to plunge the bar toilet and make some calls to learn the "secret sauce". My only real complaint was that I had to play the game in windowed mode to keep the game from cutting off any of the graphics.
This is one of the best point and click hidden object games ever made, and a very fun pirate themed adventure. It uses live actors which adds quite a bit of quality to the scenes. And it's also among the best entries of the MCF series, alongside Return to Ravenhearst and Dire Grove. This game also has trading cards, but for some reason the Steam store page doesn't show it.
Fun from my childhood.
I miss when games were genuinely made with love like this and not some corporate procedure like the newer installments.
A laborious, convoluted experience in which you waste lots of time searching for needed objects (voodoo implements, gumbo ingredients, wine glasses, ad nauseam) hidden just about anywhere over the large landscape, accompanied by unintuitive puzzles, many of which I skipped. I liked the colorful environments and the voice overs with a motley assortment of characters but this just became an exercise in frustration after 6 hours of mouse clicking. Even watching multiple walkthroughs didn't help much because every game contains its own arrangements of the same puzzles. I never did finish.
intriguing story, great live action character actors, great graphics, lots of fun, creative puzzles, mind bending hidden object iamages.... the list goes on. Loved every one of the games in this series so far. It's a pity the one before this 'Dire Grove'in not available on Steam. And the version I downloaded from Big Fish would not work!!!
Another great MCF game! You will need to play it on windows, I have tried via proton, but it crashes when you change location.
