A crew. A job. A plan. In Relooted, toss those ingredients together, and you’ve got yourself a classic heist — but with a few twists. Your crew members are everyday citizens with pretty normal careers from different countries in Africa. The job is to liberate African artifacts from Western museums. And the plan? Well, that’s up to you to create.
Near the end of the 21st century, the political powers that be brokered a Transatlantic Returns Treaty, promising the repatriation of African artifacts from museums. Good old fashioned diplomacy was working — until it wasn’t. An amendment switched up the terms and conditions of which objects were to be returned. Museums, now knowing that only publicly displayed artifacts would be given back, were slowly removing artifacts from public display.
When life gives you lemons and museums pulling shady moves, it’s time to chuck the lemons back at life and try a new, stealthier form of diplomacy. You’ve got 70 of these artifacts to (re)loot, all of which exist in real-life and are of huge cultural, historical, and spiritual significance to the people they were taken from.
It all starts with a troublesome little brother, who, yeah, gets you into all sorts of messes. But thankfully, as Nomali, you’ll meet more reliable crew members from different African countries. Recruit people from the classic hacker to… your prim and proper grandma? Don’t worry, grandma pulls her weight.
Plan ahead to lay the groundwork for a beautiful masterpiece of an escape. Check the getaway route, fiddle with puzzles and obstacles, and find spots to recruit the help of the right teammates.
Once you’ve set the stage carefully and the artifact is sitting all pretty — looking quite not-stolen, but no worries, you’re gonna fix that ASAP — this is the moment to perform. Plucking an artifact from its resting spot starts the countdown timer, and with Nomali’s flow-based parkour abilities, escape should feel like you’re in the fun, montage part of a heist movie. But if you slacked on the planning phase, you’re gonna pay for it!
Pull off heists: Plan and prepare your escape route by solving puzzles and placing teammates in the right place. When you’re ready, take the artifact and escape with Nomali’s flow-based parkour abilities.
Recruit a crew: Meet and and gradually recruit different team members with their unique abilities.
Explore an Africanfuturist setting: With a Hideout based in South Africa, you’ll see parts of Johannesburg imagined in the future
Reclaim Real Artifacts: Recover 70 artifacts that exist in real-life, all of which are of huge cultural, historical, and spiritual significance to the people they were taken from.

This game is hella fun and I'm learning a ton!
A platformer with a message :) Good music & scenario and not expensive. First try is enjoyable, I'll continue the review after a bit more or it
Great sidescroller action/puzzle game. Even better, you learn a lot of real African history through the dialogue and the descriptions of all the artifacts you reclaim. Worth your money and time.

Well this was an adrenalinic gameplay, and the story was also engaging, which also made me more invested than I already was on learning about the represented artifacts and their history. While some little parts of the parkour where not that fluid even while doing the best timing possible, but didn't really kill the flow, the rest was awesome and yes the fluid parts of the escapes reminds of a modern Sonic game, which is very nice, I must say that it felt like the Lupin The 3rd stealth game I always imagined, minus the weapon of course, something fluid and adrenalinic, with some kind of clever or with bad puns humour during the heist and/or while planning it. Of course I'm not comparing the two kind of humour because they are very different, I'm just saying it's nice for both to have their sense of humour. However with some adjustments to some little janky parts, I say it would be very interesting to see some kinda of crossover or innovation toward Lupin The 3rd series, with of course new mechanics and weapons, with an interesting confrontation in case of a crossover. If not that, a Lupin The 3rd game made by these developers would be interesting, since the last non-mobile game of the series was released in 2010, 2007-2008 if we refer to games also released outside of Japan
This game reminded me a heck of a lot of the Carmen Sandiego games I played as a child. It's not too similar gameplay-wise, but I learned a lot and the heists have puzzles throughout. As the current top commentor alludes to, this game can feel a bit repetitive at times. I found that when that was happening I needed to take a break. But I will admit the story carries the motivation to play through more than the escape sequences, though I felt the excitement each time. Which is to say that this game has excellent vibes.
It's alright, nothing to write home about. I didn't hate it, but it didn't wow me much either.
The combination of preperation phase and escape is a genuinely fun and gratifying experience for anyone who likes strategising/puzzling and also speed platforming. Preperation phase consists of casing, scouting and setting up your escape route. Escape route follows a very basic structure of holding down the "run fast" button while you quickly decide when to jump and when to time speed boosts. For anyone who likes the sound of this I HIGHLY recommend playing the game on the hardest difficulty. This is far from the hardest game that I've played, but I did need to restart levels now and then. Sometimes to execute new plans of entry, navigation and escape. Sometimes because I failed the escape due to mechanical mistakes. Sometimes because I didn't get a perfect score and wanted to try again :D The game looks good overall, the soundtrack is strong, the voice acting is on point. Overall the aesthetics definitely improve the experience. Having the conceit of the game centre around African artifacts makes for an interesting history lesson as well. It also makes the characters inherently more sympathetic as they clearly care for these pieces a lot more than if they were just stealing money, as in classic heist stories. For the mid... the story is honestly just okay. The characters are sympathetic enough to get you invested but the writing feels more servicable than stellar. Some cast adjustments later in the game makes me think that this setting could have some real potential for a more dramatic sequel but who knows? The use of tables also starts to feel a bit forced at times. The "run fast" button works like in Assassin's Creed, and so it has the same issues. Sometimes you just want to jump off a ledge and the game has you cross a hurdle, swing on a ring and jump out of a window. This can feel even more annoying when you are trying to pass one of your allies on the level as they will immediately carry out their displacement actions on you. It's ultimately a bit of a skill issue on the player's end (me), but it can be a bit annoying while learning. Allies can also be a bit finnicky as to when they actually feel like appearing, which can make some waits kind of excruciating. The wall jumping can also feel a bit finnicky at times. The bad is that the game is still not terrible well optimised and will sometimes start to chug if you leave it on for too long. I'll also say that the final level's use of fade-outs to express that the run is a lot longer than you are playing just feels disorienting and jarring rather than slick. The WORST part however is that I genuinely enjoyed the main levels a lot and I would have loved to have more of them to play! If there isn't a sequel, which in the world of indie releases is quite common, then I'd absolutely love a DLC for the game that just adds a bunch more challenge levels to play through.
Despite the racist backlash the game received, it’s fantastic. The premise of recovering items stolen from Africa is simply brilliant. For anyone studying museology, this game was a perfect fit. Kudos to the developers for bringing to life something so rich in historical knowledge. Plus, the game looks absolutely stunning!
