Indiana Jones, now with extra Nazis! 10/10 - IGN
About halfway through this and am enjoying the story and characters which are well written. Am a fan of the Indiana Jones films and the 1930/40s era so a lot to like here for me. The only downside is the overemphasising of modern issues and attitudes in what is a period piece that for me do not really fit with the time period or story. I am enjoying it enough that I will finish reading and then move on to the next in the series.
This entry has been great. Far more uncharted/the mummy than Indiana Jones, it allows you to play your character anyway you like. I myself went Nathan Fillion's take on Drake and was never disappointed. It's a great length, nicely written and a lot of fun. Only gripe was a lack of romantic interests early game. Either you wedge yourself into being the third wheel on a throuple, or lament an old flame who you eventually figured out was a text-book sociopath who would make Freud drop his cigar. Would have been nice to choose Sam's gender and woo some research assistant. HR be damned. Would I buy it again after the fact? Hands down - yes. Note to the author, thanks for the game/book - and found a spelling mistake in the stone temple - [the stone] look(s) like. Missing an 's'. Cheers
This story is well written and there's lots of adventure. But I would have enjoyed this more if the stat checks were less demanding and relentlessly punishing. The romance is barely there, the author instead preferring to focus on archaeology and historical facts, which are well-researched. Personally, I wouldn't recc this but it is one of the better Hosted Games I've read.
The game is fun, for a text based Choose Your Own Adventure. I like that you can see your character's stats. The downside I have come across is the narrative, it's very PC for today but injected into a 1930s setting, which takes you out of the story. Some of the words, interactions and speech don't fit for then. Would be more immersive if there was more lingo used from the time. Strong negative about the game is the puzzles. They are intriguing but you can't go back to re-read the riddles or clues. So you end up doing a lot of process of elimination. Would still recommend.
I love this immensely and highly recommend it! My only real complaint is that you cannot set your own surname? Which I still don't understand why not? Why can't I make Indiana Jones or Allan Quatermain or Jake Cutter, and instead have to settle for Indiana Spillane, Allan Spillane, or Jake Spillane? What's worse is that "Spillane" is kind of a bad surname, ngl But hey, ya can still punch nazis in the face, so 10/10
10/10 Literalmente Indiana Jones con enemies to lovers characteristics. Lo recontra recomiendo, mi vida es más feliz por haberlo jugado
I'm surprised Relics has so few reviews. This series is honestly one of if not my favorite COG I've ever played. You get to play as a swashbuckling archaeologist with customizeable skills and traits, on a race against the Nazis to retrieve ancient relics with seemingly mystical powers, which you can use selfishly to get rich and boost your career, or return to their original cultures. You'll meet interesting and lovable friends along the way, and get to explore different locations around the globe as you solve puzzles, wade through ancient ruins, bustling cities and wildernesses and potentially find romance. You'll travel through jungles and go to galas, and visit the streets of many prominent cities like Istanbul, London and Hong Kong, and you'll match wits with a nazi interrogator to avoid him learning the full truth. The writing is really good, the choices feel impactful enough and you are told what stats are needed in the choices (seems obvious but a lot of COG don't do it). A piece of warning though, since a lot of people were apparently surprised by this: This game has sci-fi/fantasy elements that are very prominent, and it also has some anachronism in the way it treats queerness (the non-binary characters are not misgendered by anyone, which apparently people found un-immersive). The game is also really violent. You will murder a lot of people in your adventures, all of them either nazis or people who are as good as nazis, but still. You will get some options of non-violence when facing relatively innocent people, but sometimes you won't have a choice. You will also face off against the KKK and a particularly brutal contingent of rogue soldiers of the European colonizing military force in the Congo, so be warned that there is some racists in this story. You will get to kill them, but they are still there and they hurt people, which can be upsetting to read through. All in all, for me the game managed to strike a balance between darkness and joy, between seriousness and fun, all the while featuring a memorable cast of characters and a lovingly rendered rendition of our world's most exciting archaeological mysteries. The second game was even better and expanded on everything that made this game good, so I would definitely recommend this as a series.
Fantastic stuff! I played some of the series while it was on dashingdon, and I adore the detail and love put into it. The passion really shows and inspires me to wanna make my own game
