Really good game. Gives me big Fran Bow, Little Misfortune vibes. Like a storybook but make it a nightmare. I do wish that there were more intuitive walk mechanics. You have to click to move which is easy enough to adapt to, but I was surprised that there weren't multiple options for walk mechanics. (It would be cool to have an option of arrow keys/WASD keys for walking. But other than that, I really enjoyed it! Looking forward to the coming chapters!
Related is a Horror game where you play as a woman named Jessica. Jessica goes back to the old orphanage she lived in to figure out what went wrong all those years ago. If you like Horror games like Fran Bow than you're in for a treat! Related is a 2D sidescroller that uses puzzles and point-and-click gameplay. It also seems to be set somewhere in the 20's to 50's. However, Related maintains its own individuality and is no clone. PROS - The artstyle is very nice - The sound design adds to the mood and makes you feel on edge - The story is very interesting and holds a lot of promise Cons - The gameplay mechanics could use a bit more refinement - The game is very short and leaves you on a cliffhanger. (This isn't too bad since its pretty cheap though) - I'm not too thrilled that its getting released in chapters instead of as a full game but I'm guessing this is the developers way of trying to gain interest while getting the funding they need.
It's just a very short first episode of an abandoned game that never got the rest of the episodes. Don't buy it.
This one deserves a neutral vote or even a thumbs-down, but I would rather give devs some voice of encouragement. I can see the potential for a decent game here - a pleasant one, albeit in no way innovative. I have played many games with an innocent child-protagonist in a disturbing, cute yet distorted settings that are easily superior to this one. I will say, however, that Related offers a good enough artstyle and a possibly interesting setting. But, dear devs, there are SO many things you should improve or actually add to make it stand out even a lil bit. The experience is wonky and far from being a polished - it's not even a complete game yet. Here are some tips to make it a bit more appealing (or rather less irritating) - you start the game walking so excruciatingly slowly, as if each step was breaking your kneecaps. Perhaps there will be a reason revealed for that in the later chapters, but don't start your game like this without any acceptable visual clues for this bizarre decision or some explanation given by the character. Taking even one step is a CHORE. Then you have 50% chance of going the wrong (right) way at the start, only to make the long journey and take note that you probably need to backtrack and redo this slow walk twice more, back and forth. Sounds like a small thing, but those add up. Right after this, you take an astounding amount of time to actually unlock the door in 3 moves, no matter how you aim the tool at your disposal, which wastes additional time. So the whole beginning starts to feel exactly like that - like a waste of time. If your game begins like this, it doesn't set the tone right for the rest of it. You have possibly discouraged players in the literal first minutes of the game. - On the other hand, while the game takes forever in some things, in needlessly speeds through others. For example. most games allow to left-click to instantly show the whole text box during a dialogue, which is especially helpful if there is no voice over and you read faster than the rate at which the text is appearing. Here, however, your left-clicking skips the lines instead of speeding them up. Yet, you have to click for the next line to appear after each sentence is actually finished. This way, I found myself accidentally skipping through some dialogues when they were taking forever to show up - and then, wary of repeating this - I again spent too much time waiting for text to appear once I made the conscious decision to stop clicking. It's an awkward and irritating process - I advise you to check how other games do it right and just implement their solutions. - for a better experience, you also need such simple things as Escape/clicking outside the text to get the player out of the pause menu and other pop ups. Getting back to the game only by selecting "Continue" icon isn't technically wrong, but it's small things like that that keep piling up as inconvenience. I see that my comment is already long and I'm not sure if any of my tips would be in any way helpful. So I'll just end it right here. Don't get discouraged and keep making games, devs - each project, whether it's a success or a failure, is just another step in a learning process. Wish you best.
