10/10 would recommend this game to anyone interested in checking this out. I knew of this game as early as when it was on Kickstarter, back when I was captivated by the writing style of the demo, and now having bought the game on first launch, I am more than pleased with my purchase. If you are into romance-focused visual novels, then this game may not be for you. But if you enjoy plot-heavy stories in a fantasy setting with supernatural powers, then this is your cup of tea. Not to say the romance is not well written (interactions are wholesome and cute), but with how action filled the story becomes, particularly in the later chapters, romance is usually not on the forefront. But it didn't really matter, because your attention is kept busy alternating between the main cast and the diverse set of side characters. One thing I love most is that, depending on the route you are on, different side characters get their time to shine. They are crucial to the plot, as well as allowing you to understand more about Sheryl and the guys. Sooner or later, you become as endeared to the secondary cast of characters as the MC and the LIs, so much so I much enjoyed the Common Route (labelled as such by the official guide), aka the friendship route where Sheryl does not end up with any of the characters, but that does not make this route any less interesting than the other routes. As for our protagonist, Sheryl is a terrific heroine. Not only is she not a damsel in distress, she also fights at the frontlines as one of their strongest. But it is her mental strength that is even more impressive. While she is not without flaws, you see her grow throughout the routes, in which not even her phobia or grief hold her back from what needs to be done. The good (apart from those already mentioned): Needless to say, the art is beautiful. The music is fitting, especially in fight scenes where it really gets your adrenaline pumping. The pacing is good. The first half of the story is lighthearted to allow you to get a grip of the setting and the characters; while the latter half picks up its pacing and rushes full speed ahead without making it feel forced, with the earlier chapters preparing you for what is to come. The world-building is also wonderful. The background of the LIs is quite diverse as well, so completing each of their route contributed to a rather complete big picture. The bad: Something minor to nitpick at is that there is a fair amount of grammatical mistakes (in Sin, Hiryuu and Osamu's route in particular). Another thing is that I wished there is a clearer indication of whose route you are on. But that is only because I am used to either having a status screen which shows the affection bar, or seeing the face of the guy whose route you are on at the chapter divider once the story branches. If you use a guide though, then it does not matter. Lastly, I honestly desperately wish for a sequel/fandisc. I would love to see more of how everyone's shin work. In addition, some routes (e.g. Fraser and Osamu) have a happy ending that didn't seem satisfying at all, so a continuation would be good. And of course, with how attached I became to the side characters, I definitely wish more of them had their own route (even if platonic), like Director Cloise, who ends up becoming my favourite character, and also Tsurugi and Blake. Or it would be nice to have a prequel to before the start of this game, as in the early days of the academy or even before that, like how the senior members each came to meet the Director. It would be interesting if we could know about the CR member that went on missions abroad and the one mentioned to have died early in the game. i also felt like it is a shame there was not a witch LI considering the races mentioned. I tried to be as vague as possible to avoid spoilers. Some things are better experienced after all (like how the romance developed between Sheryl and each LI and how their relationship dynamic differs accordingly), but if this is the least bit helpful to whoever is reading, then I am glad. Thank you, Raikon Kitsune, for an amazing game.
Reimei no Gakuen is an otome visual novel developed and published by Raikon Kitsune. You take on the role of Sheryl Shiganori, a student at Aurora Academy. Sheryl explains about the conflict between fairies and witches and demons and how that conflict inevitably brought on the birth of shin bearers after the 'Hoshi no Ame', a rain of stars. Shin bearers are humans with supernatural abilities, which can range from the ability to control fire to communicating telepathically. However, along with their abilities comes misfortune, which simply means that they encounter terrible luck. In Sheryl's case, she has the ability to wield light-based swords and has a second shin (although I won't reveal it here for spoiler purposes). Aurora Academy is a safe haven for shin bearers (since they have trouble controlling their abilities without outside help), and in particular, Crystal Rose is a special department within the academy for shin bearers. At the beginning of the story, various shin bearers come to the academy to be admitted and join Crystal Rose to help control their abilities. As some time passes, though, a major conflict occurs and it turns out that shin bearers are in major danger. (For anyone who might have a guess, it might have to do with what I summarized at the beginning of this review. XD) I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. ^^ As for the gameplay, Reimei no Gakuen has multiple routes. In particular, it has 7 routes: one non-romance route and six romance ones. Each route has a good and bad ending, and there are a total of 10 chapters. Throughout the story, there are many choices presented, which determine the route that Sheryl goes on as well as whether you get the good or bad ending. Although there are no Steam achievements or trading cards (at the time of this review), there are plenty of CGs (which can be viewed in the Gallery in the Main Menu) as well as a huge soundtrack. Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. Reimei no Gakuen initially caught my interest after reading the story synopsis, as I enjoy a good mystery along with supernatural elements. First, I'll talk about the story and characters. I enjoyed the story, getting to follow Sheryl and being introduced to the various characters and such. There are a LOT of characters, especially the side characters. There are various personalities, and it's interesting to see how Sheryl interacts with them. As for Sheryl, she initially comes off as cold and expressionless (which can be mistaken for heartlessness). However, as the story progresses, we learn why Sheryl has such a personality. I found her likable, for the most part. She's a strong character, both physically and personality-wise, and as she's an experienced shin bearer, the newcomers look up to her (although Sheryl is against the idea of being a teacher or leader). As for the love interests, there are a variety of them, ranging from Hiryuu (the student council president and one of Sheryl's oldest friends) to Osamu (the Black Cat dorm leader who was recruited by the director of Aurora Academy). I liked that there is a variety available, and a lot of the paths have character growth.
For example, on Lagi's path, Sheryl initially runs away from him because of her pyrophobia and Lagi has the ability to wield fire. Although Lagi really hates this at first, he learns slowly to understand Sheryl and he matures when dealing with her and the others.
As for the story itself, I enjoyed getting to read the main plot, which is definitely the underlying conflict between fairies and witches and demons and how the shin bearers are caught in-between. There are themes of assumptions and how those assumptions turn out to be wrong. It may or may not be predictable, depending on the reader's experiences with such stories. In regards to the writing, the pacing was fine. It starts off a bit slow although that's understandable, as many characters are getting introduced, and Sheryl and the other senior members of Crystal Rose have to explain things to the new students. Then there are times when days are skipped after certain events happen, but I found that to be fine. Otherwise, I think the story would move too slowly. I found several typos, missing punctuation, and spacing issues. Since this is a very long visual novel, I think this is acceptable, although it certainly wouldn't hurt to get them fixed in a future update. As for the art, it is gorgeous. The sprites take on the usual anime style that's seen in a lot of visual novels. The sprites are well-done, and I especially enjoyed viewing the CGs. I like that there are LOTS of them, and I found myself laughing over the chibi CGs. (It doesn't hurt that I have a partial likeness for chibi art.) The backgrounds are good as well and it's good that there are several versions that range from daytime to nighttime to even a wintry scene. In regards to the soundtrack, there are plenty of tracks, and I enjoyed listening to each of them. There's a good variety from the everyday theme to a suspenseful one that hints that there's going to be a battle. I just wish that there was a way to listen to individual tracks (like how you can view individual CGs in the Gallery) apart from being in the game. Overall, would I recommend Reimei no Gakuen? If you're a fan of visual novels and you want to enjoy a lengthy one with plenty of routes and whatnot, then yes, I'd say to give this a try. I should note, though, that there's definitely more romance in certain routes than others although I enjoyed all of them. I'd say that the main plot of the story is the huge focus, and the romance routes are ways to approach it (although there is the non-romance route as well). I wish I could say more about this visual novel and how much I enjoyed it (but I don't want to go over the character limit lol). Shout out to the devs for creating such a wonderful story, and I really hope that there's a sequel. ^^
Flying free and writing reviews solely for The Introverted Gamer.
This game sucked me in from the moment I played it. It has a great plot, fantastic characters and each route were different and interesting in their own ways. Sheryl, the main character, is quite expressionless, blunt, pro-active and nonchalant with a sweet tooth and a curious nature, she is not very nurturing and it takes a while for her to get close to people she is also quite mature for her own age, having to grow up fast thanks to her past. She isn't the typical MC and she grew on me quickly in the game. It also has 6 Love Interest that all brings something different in their own routes, along with a 'common route' route. Now I will warn you this. This game, while is an Otome, is not very romanced focused. This is more plot heavy and actiony and it does not help that Sheryl herself is...herself so do not go to this game expecting lots of romance and lovey dovey stuff. That said, I liked how each route helped nurture Sheryl's relationship with each Love Interest in a natural way. I guess if I have a minor complaint, I do wished the endings for each route, specifically the good endings weren't so open ended (especially for a few) but I am hearing this game might have an epilogue game so I will cross my fingers for it to be a reality. This game also has a lot of side characters that are prominent and given a chance to shine in each route and some adds to the plot themselves so they don't end up making me wonder "why are you here?". Overall, this was a great game and I do hope there's more left after this.
Great Novel, love it. give it a try everyone you wont reget it Did play the demo and was waiting for the full version Edit: after few hours and 4 routes done from 6 , i only can say best novel so far i got to read, thanks envolps for such a great game! and defintely for the most experince i would rather say play all routes to get the puzzle full togther, more i dont will say rest up to you guys... Edit 2.0: Now i am done with all routes , for all endings and all gallery pics you will be busy around 100 hours maybe even more depends how fast you read. I am still the opionen best novel so far i got to read, each routes has at some points his own ways to experince the game and story, some suprising some sad some happy some even funny. the main char is great i love her , and all chars are really good some will you hate some will you never forgot , but thats all good becouse that makes the game even more better. i just hoping for a secound part from that great novel. if you lazy to go trough all routes with self work you can find each walktrough on ther website. but defintely go osmau and hiryuu as last routes they give away the best routes in my eys , only aitos route was a bit weak in my eys but still ok , there it depends on each others taste. my english writing is not the best so i gift you my wrong writing on some words.
Hiryuu
The game is good,have nice plot and nice scenes, There is fantasy and comedy side romance stories,each the characters is good and good to know them, I'm just complete Ending with Sin Route and the story is quite long and not short that is make interested to know the other Routes :)
An amazing VN, with great story, characters, art and music. Very long too if you want to do every route, which is worth doing because you can see the story transpire in different ways and learn things you wouldn't otherwise in others. While you end up close and spending time with the character of your route, there is far greater focus in the story instead of routes being about romance. I must also add that, personally, I find the protagonist to be the most important piece of a VN for me to enjoy. And Sheryl is definitely a protagonist I've absolutely loved going through the story as.
10/10 would recomend it! A great visual novel, with a creative and original story, characters, art and music. Every rout you could choose is in itself quite long. I so far played though 3 routs and it took me almoste 35h. If you want to do every route, which seems absolutely worth doing (and I aim to do) because you can see the story transpire in so many different ways and learn things you wouldn't otherwise in others. you will have more then plenty of hours to read and enjoy, absolute worth the money spent on the game. While you end up close and spending time with the character of your route, there is far greater focus in the story itself instead of routes only being about romance which I quite like. This shows much more story depth and diversity, especially because every romance character and NPC has so many character layers to them which can even differ quite much between the story paths. I find the protagonist to be the most important piece of a visual novel for me to enjoy and Sheryl is definitely a protagonist I've absolutely loved going through the story, especially because she is quite unique compared to most visual novel protagonists. She is intelligent, strong minded and scarred from her past but still able to grow, learn and change based on choices and expirience as well as positive and negative influence of NPCs and the love interests. In most other novels this rearly happens. One negative thing I have to mention between all the positive expiriences with this visual novel is, that there are quite some typos and grammar issues within the story, though it diddn't bother me much I know that others might be irritated. In the end I highly reccomend this visual novel to everybody that enjoys reading long, eventful fantasy storys with a touch of romance, unexpected twist and turns as well as plenty of choices to be made and great art.
This is a masterpiece of a visual novel, they captured the plot and story so well, along with the CGs. I loved the routes as well!! They added the chill interaction with the interests so well with the Climax!! I went with Sin, Aito, Osamu and Fraser's route! And they have been the most beautiful routes. Sin has alot of Cimax with actually showing the death of the Emaurade twins instead of just telling us and we get really cool moments with CGs, he'salso Chill/Calm and really strong! (Btw I love his bro) Sin is my very favourite ^-^. Next, Aito is really chill! And we actually get to see who he really is (I love his eyes!). Aito is also strong and has special abilities..! He is my favourite along with Sin on the same level! Osamu is a real mystery until we find out he's been looking out for Sheryl in the whole story! I love him so much and is on the same level with Sin and Aito (Btw Wolves are my fav animals so I love him even more c^-^c)! Fraser is CUTE! He wears cute bunny accessories, I love his friends/brothers a lot as well, one thing I want to know though, is if Blake woke up... I really enjoyed Blake even though he betrayed us, and Aiz is so cute and loyal even if he's a bit silly..! Fraser always tries to prove himself which I love as well with his shin!! They are all my favorite characters with different interactions! I think everyone should purchase this game if they enjoy Otome and Visual novels. Remei no Gakuen is in my top 3 favorites as well! 100/100!
