How to Sing to Open Your Heart Remastered

[i]How to Sing to Open Your Heart Remastered[/i] is an otome visual novel developed and published by ROSEVERTE. It is the remastered version of the original [i]How to Sing to Open Your Heart[/i], which is available for purchase on Steam. It follows up on the events of the previous game in the Eroolia series, [i]How to Fool a Liar King Remastered[/i]. Although this visual novel is the third game in the series, it can be played as a standalone game. (However, I recommend playing the previous two games in the series, [i]How to Take Off Your Mask[/i] and [i]How to Fool a Liar King[/i], for easier reference.) In this installment, you take on the role of Myana, the Princess of Laarz (a kingdom of cat people). She has come to Leezera, the capital of Eroolia (the human kingdom), as part of a pact agreed upon by the two kingdoms. (This pact is elaborated more in [i]How to Fool a Liar King[/i].) In particular, Myana has come to check up on the luccretian patients at the treatment center who are being treated for the "Inadaptability Disease". (Again, this is elaborated more in [i]How to Fool a Liar King[/i].) However, upon arriving in the human castle, she is rudely greeted by Ludovic, the imperial guard captain to King Juli. Ludovic wants the complete isolation of luccretias. (In other words, he doesn't want luccretias in Eroolia.) Of course, Myana feels initially annoyed by him, and it seems like these two won't get along. However, circumstances end up bringing these two in constant contact, and before anyone realizes, the sparks may fly between them. I'll end my story synopsis here to avoid spoilers and all that. XD As for the gameplay, it's pretty much the same as in the previous two games in the series. In the prologue, first and second chapters, you're presented with choices that will either direct you to the "teamwork" or "independent" path. After completing the prologue, first and second chapters, you'll get a bonus mini-chapter that gives insight into what Ludovic is thinking. Depending on the choices you make, you'll either be on the teamwork or independent path from chapter 4 all the way to the epilogue. As for the paths themselves, the teamwork path implies that Myana will work with her friends to figure out the mystery and strange occurrences that are happening in Leezera and with regards to the luccretias. In the independent path, Myana will still investigate although she'll mostly rely on her guardian, the black cat, for help, and there's more on screen time between her and Ludovic. There are several CGs (with remastered artwork) throughout the story as well as a varied soundtrack. Of course, there are Steam achievements although no Steam trading cards at the time of this review. Now that I've gone over the story and gameplay, I'll move onto my critique. [i]How to Sing to Open Your Heart Remastered[/i] holds a special place in my heart, partly because I helped to edit/proofread the original script. Thus, I won't comment on the writing aspect although all other aspects are fair game. XD First, I enjoyed the story a lot. It's fun getting to follow Myana as she first encounters Ludovic and immediately, the two of them don't get along. So far, in the previous series, we've gotten the childhood friends pairing and the strangers meeting for the first time pairing. Now, we're getting the tsundere pairing, mainly on Ludovic's side. Although Myana is in Eroolia to help her people (and she reminds herself that she is a princess and the leader of her country), she ends up finding romance with Ludovic. As for Ludovic, he initially just wants luccretias gone from Eroolia (although he doesn't support any harm to them). However, as he spends time with Myana, it seems like his views on that matter may change. Reading through the story, I liked the chemistry between Myana and Ludovic. (I suppose it doesn't hurt that I tend to like the two people initially dislike each other but then end up liking each other over time. XD) They make a really wonderful pair, my favorite so far in the Eroolia series. However, because of their social positions, they find that it's difficult to be together. Despite that, the endings for both the teamwork and independent paths leave off on a happy, hopeful note. Ahh, before I forget, I want to point out that this visual novel is a comedy one, so it's mostly light-hearted, with plenty of romantic moments. It does have the mystery over the luccretias and the return of anti-luccretias (who were mentioned in the first game of the series) as the main plot. As for the art, it's in the beautiful anime style that's typical for the series. The sprites now have eye and lip movements to make the characters more realistic. Also, a lot of the CGs are improved, so if you compare this remastered version to the original, the art is more pleasing. In regards to the soundtrack, it is the same as in the original, so there aren't any differences. Still, the tracks are beautiful to listen to, and there's quite a variety, each fitting with the mood of the scene. In addition, there's full on Japanese voice acting, even for really minor characters. Overall, would I recommend [i]How to Sing to Open Your Heart Remastered[/i]? If you enjoyed the other games in the series and want to experience this latest installment with the improved art and such, it's certainly worth revisiting. This story is my favorite out of all the three, and I would certainly love to see more installments. (Also, just a personal note, but I really want more Simon and Anna. XD) For the asking price, I'd say it's worth it for the improved art, the soundtrack, and Japanese voice acting. This game is my favorite of the three because I feel the two characters are a perfect match plus I love a really easy to read strong story with lots of good romance, story, action, and drama. I love the first two in the series of course but this one is nice - I always like stories that are self-contained in one game with a strong story and this game is one of those. Of course, the writing, art, music, and voice acting are amazing as always. Roseverte never disappoints...I've played all their games and I love every single one. I played the game about the Tako princess too but I want more. I hope Roseverte makes another one of their awesome games soon. 10/10

The third story in the Eroolia series is a sweet romantic comedy about a girl named Myana (name changeable) and a (seemingly) emotionless and level-headed palace guard called Ludovic. This is the Remastered version of the original game. Though I can't comment on the improvements since I haven't played the original game, I know that the developer spent 3 years to remaster the three games in the Eroolia series and made substantial improvements to the original game. This game is simple and lighthearted, but enjoyable, nonetheless. The sprites and CGs are beautifully drawn and captivating. There is also a nice opening theme song sung by Yuki Yumeno (which you can purchase as a DLC on Steam), as well as good background music. I definitely suggest you play the second game "How to Fool a Liar King" before this game in the series as the story line of the th8is game is heavily built on the second game.

Okey! The third and the last one. If you liked the Cat Princess from the Second one? She is the MC in this one. The LI is a new guy however. The adorableness was turned up even more in this story. The Princess likes to tease and the LI was a complete mess by the end. (I am now officially worried for the safety of the Kingdom.) The story continues after the Second book, with the "pact" and the "disease". Fluffiness, action, cuteness, resolution and off we go. I can't say any of these were deep, but for people who like to "aww" and want an easy read? I mean... It's right here. Up to you. :>

Broadly speaking, this could be added to a collection of good and light literary experiences to rest the mind. Un très agréable et mignon Otome. Les personnages sont sympathiques, le dessin est fin, les doublages japonais réussis et les musiques sont jolies. Seul bémol : les nombreuses fautes de conjugaison et d'orthographe dans les sous-titres de la version française. J'accorde à ce jeu la note de 18/20 et je le recommande!

This is a cute game, entertaining and the final game in a series of 3, I believe. It's not a bad game and I enjoyed the first playthrough. Though the 100% is a bit of a slog after that since it's the same story all over again with very little changes in writing. The art style is okay, the music and singing is good, and since this is the last game in a series of 3, the storyline also fully unravels, culminates and wraps up in a neat packaging. The characters are quirky and lovable, I very much enjoyed the game at this point and I actually found myself liking these main characters the best out of the other two previous pairs. The main female character is strong and mature, a leader for her people. The main male character is just adorable but strong in his own right. Pricetag feels much more accurately levelled with this game compared to the 2 previous titles (14,79 euros as of writing this). Probably because I enjoyed this one the most, so opinions on that may vary. I'll recommend it if you've played the other two games to wrap up the overarching story, if not then probably not. Pick it up on sale if you're unsure.
