So first things first, I believe that Rebel Reenactment: Battle of the Wilderness has the makings to be a fine game. It is very good at its core but there are two sides to every coin. There are many aspects of the game that are great and would be superb with some polishing, there are others which seem to take away the overall effect. The Good- A lot of effort has clearly been put into the making of this game so far The Uniforms look superb and are actually pretty well detailed given the graphical constraints, however the graphics distance is not very far this can of course be addressed later in development. Also later in development the author may consider uniform an equipment variations among the confederate forces in particular, the addition of slouch hats and hardee hats would be a welcome cosmetic change. The confederate forces could have all sorts of uniform variations so I would suggest for gameplay purposes five variations. Confederate Forces Variations 1. The current with a mixture of kepis and slouch hats, packs and/or blanket rolls 2. Butternut uniform, 3. Gray tunic and sky blue trousers 4. Butternut tunic with sky blue trousers 5. Butternut with gray trousers Union Forces Variations (with possible cosmetic additions of blanket rolls or packs 1. Current Uniform 2. Uniform with Slouch hat 3. Uniform with Hardee Hat The Muzzle Loaders- It is not always an easy task to make muzzle loading weapons attractive in video games, the muskets in game are very simplistic and they do not take a long time to reload (actually may want to add a couple more steps to get it closer to the time) As it stands reload takes roughly 5 to 7 seconds and primarily shows the usage of the ramrod and cocking the hammer. There are however many more steps like tearing the cartridge with your teeth and emptying the contents into the muzzle, then you pull out your ramrod and gently drive the powder and round down, you remove the ramrod and place it back in its place, then you reach into your cap pouch and produce your firing cap, ♥♥♥♥ the hammer back then discharge your weapon, replace the charge ready, aim, fire. Of course this process takes about 20 seconds so I will not begrudge the author for the omission of steps for game play purposes. The main area where I think the developer should turn his focus toward is the combat itself, it seems that from the federal perspective the union troops come up to the large body of Confederates in small skirmish groups or even pickets which makes for a very long game. I think that to implement a wave system similar to Rise of Liberty would be ideal in this situation ie once a wave of troops suffers enough casualties the next wave makes ready to enter the fray. This will make for much larger scale of combat and shorter matches. I also noticed that the troops in these pickets never seemed to fire but they would catch bullets splendidly. I feel that to implement a fire by volley or fire at will would really help in this case. The cannons controls are as of yet confusing as there really is no visual feedback for elevation (btw to new users to raise your cannon press Q to lower your cannon press E) The final issue is rag doll and corpses I feel as if the corpses and rag doll are somewhat lackluster as far as things go but I understand that this game is in very early development. It would be nice to be able to toggle corpses to stay on the battlefield and maybe a little enhancement of the gore system at some point down the line none of the observations on rag doll and corpses are by any means immediately urgent, they are simply a polish that can be done later in development. The developer is trying to portray one of the most horrific and confusing battles of the American Civil War, it was a battle that tested the mettle of many a man and saw in it the best of mankind and the worst of mankind. A brush fire started amidst the combat and in many cases troops stopped fighting to rescue both friends and foes from the conflagration. Many wounded who could not be evacuated died from being burned to death. To this end I applaud the developer for taking on the task of illustrating this dark page in American History. I recommend this game highly 7 out of 10 All the basics are there but it could use a little polish You made yourself a really good game
I am not sure what the other reviewer means by “a solid game”. The game is not ready, it is clearly in the early alpha prototype stage of development. Prototype or a proof of concept. All content currently available to you as a player is: being deployed into a flat map with a bunch of men. They get into two formations which stand too far away from each other to do anything. That’s all. Neither line ever approaches another to attack. They just stand still forever. You can try to charge the enemy line on your own to be killed in seconds. You can press Q to grab a crowd of 50 men and approach enemy line; all 50 will be killed by the enemy army without inflicting a single casualty. When you are killed, you have a unique opportunity to control your own dead body with WASD, sliding on your back wherever you wish across the whole flat map. Most game mechanics are directly borrowed from Rise of Liberty which, however, is a fully playable game with miles better graphics despite its low poly art style. I can not recommend a proof of concept as a playable game which it isn’t Sorry. Will follow the updates to once, maybe, finally have a single player ACW line battle game.
Great idea and core. Not many features added currently, but its in Early Access development. I respect the dev(s) for choosing such a infamous battle. Uniforms and Graphics: Uniforms are very good, spot on! Though, backpacks for the Union Soldiers are lacking, its not a big deal. Everyone has the same face and facial hair. Would be cool if you could customize your soldier. Controls: Controls are weird-ish. Melee button is V which I wasn't expecting. I was assuming it was right click. When getting out of aim it takes 5 seconds or more. When reloading sometimes the gun doesn't reload and you have to press the reload button again. Overall, the animations need to be smoother and faster but otherwise, great job. Gameplay: Gameplay is very fun, really cool walking in formation and firing in lines with other soldiers. I've never see any game really attempt this but the Dev(s) for this really nailed it on. The firing lines are the best feature of the game. The AI makes you feel like you're in a Civil War line battle. Another cool feature is where you can command men. This feature is super helpful when you need to reinforce a weak part in your firing lines. The artillery is kinda useless because the controls are weird and you can't adjust the pitch of the cannon. The map is simple but perfect! Though, I feel like those damn traitors have the advantage in the game. Overall: Fun game! Simple but perfect! Of course some features will need to be added or the game gets boring after a couple hours but its only early access. To make it simple, if your desperate for a Civil War game and have some money lying around, go ahead! Buy this game! But if you have a strict criteria for historical games I suggest waiting til the game gets updated more. Before I go, remember kids: "A good Southerner is a dead one"-Some random internet guy
Gra ze sporym potencjałem: czekałem na nią i kupiłem mimo trochę wysokiej ceny. Póki co szału w rozgrywce nie ma, ale sądzę, że wszystko przyjdzie z czasem.
At most a rough prototype
I bought this game for the couple of cents I had left when it was in sale. So I didnt paid full price and I am kinda glad I didnt. Rebel Reenactment is rought. The game crashes every two times i load into the map or the main menu. The game is rather boring. Spawn in run till you encounter the enemey shot, reload with a mini game and shoot again. Every now and than you die. The game indeed offers various game modes. Which meat grinder sure is a punishment for playing through with more than 10k tickets on each side. The problem is rather easy to spot. The game consist of the core mechanics. The gameplay and control feel weird. You cant aim via ironsights and you only lower or raise your weapon. The battle is just poorly written AI shooting at each other and it gets boring pretty fast. It lacks depth, detail in immersion. The map has audio boxes scattered that play random soldier screaming, there is sound of burning wood although nothing burns on the map directly and there are bullets flying by. Its redicules to hear bullets fly by at spawn within the first 10 seconds of the map with no enemy in sight. Overall Id say its either a prototype that requires work to be turned into a decent game or its just a lazy mock up of Rise of Liberty. I believe the latter since there are many similarties in what this game offers and RoL has.
dang this game is good
Played splitscreen with my dad and we played the whole war as Union for the hell of it. Even though the game is janky it made up for the fun line battles and all the units on the field. I wish you guys updated this game just a tad bit when it comes to melee cause the melee don't register half the time. Update this game guys, it really is unique and if you all gave it a little more love, I can see it taking off. You can even add more stuff with the money aspect, like if I am on a kill streak I can buy or unlock a new cosmetic or gun. Thanks for the fun little games you guys make.
very cool game lots of fun hope to see more maps soon if you like line battle simulators your love this game
War of Rights на минималках. Заточена под синглплеер и сплитскрин. Могу порекомендовать любителям сеттинга гражданской войны в США: должная атмосфера здесь присутствует, несмотря на минимализм.
