About
Experience the tale of a cheerful girl and a grouchy talking hat in this charming Metroidvania, where every ability is hat-based! Throw the hat to attack enemies, teleport to him to make perilous leaps, and fly him through narrow tunnels of spikes as you escape a dangerous magic forest.
Playing with a keyboard and mouse is recommended for the best experience, as it supports 360° aiming, allowing you to throw the hat wherever you wish!
Brave rooms that have all been thoughtfully designed to be challenging and interesting—including both tricky platforming and heart-pumping enemy encounters. They will test your familiarity and mastery of your abilities, so leap, throw, and teleport to victory!
In addition to the usual Metroidvania secrets behind breakable walls, Whirlwind Magician features outside-the-box ways to use your abilities as well as secret ones that will open up shortcuts and change how you approach the game, inspired by popular speedrunning titles like Super Metroid.
Play as Viola—a cheerful and brave young girl who wants to become a magician, and Gibson—a grouchy and cautious talking hat who is reluctantly helping Viola find her way home. Watch their friendship grow as they bicker, argue, and learn to get along with their contrasting personalities.

It's entirely playable and fine, but it felt like one of those boring itch io metroidvanias. I found nothing about it particularly appealing. Teleporting to your hat is a somewhat cool mechanic and the map is servicable enough. Not an experience worth wasting time on IMO. I have had some fun with some other minimalistic microvanias on Steam, like SJ-19 Saves the World, 100 Pumpkins 2, Kalinur, Omnigon and Tiny Dangerous Dungeons Remake, so once in a while one of these cheap little microvanias does hook me, but artistically and musically this was quite bland and I put it down before finishing.
It's a cute, bite-sized Metroidvania. The core mechanic is unique and satisfying to use - it's a tiny bit clunky because of how many buttons you have to press (especially given how often you'll be doing it), but otherwise no notes - it's pretty fun to use and makes navigating the map feel good. The spritework is basic, but the main character is expressive and it's easy to read, so it does what it has to. It took about 1.5 hours to beat, plus another 30-40 minutes to 100%, but given the price and how solid the traversal is, I'd definitely recommend to any Metroidvania fans!

YES ITS HERE! I'm so glad this game has come out, I genuinely love it so much. It does an incredible job of offering a great experience for new players to the metroidvania genre while still offering enough depth to keep veterans engaged. I hope that Santi continues to make new projects, and that I get the joy of playing through each and every one of them.
No matter how short and budget this game is, there is a lot of indivuality and charm especially in how characters are drawn and animated. I liked the unique "throw and teleport" mechanic and it has a lot of potenial. The music may be bland but there was one track I particularly enjoyed. Overall a good game for it's price, hope to see more from this developer in the future.
A fun little adventure well worth its price tag. As someone who struggles to complete traditional metroidvanias, the shorter runtime was a welcome breath of fresh air to the genre. The story is adorable, I really enjoyed watching the two main characters become friends over the course of the game and loved seeing them bring out the best qualities in each other. Immediately after beating this game for the first time, I booted up a new save file and beat it again, this time with 100% completion. I can confidently recommend Whirlwind Magician to anybody who likes good video games and am looking forward to seeing whatever Santi Ponce does next.
Fun game Um jogo curto com algumas mecânicas engraçadas Pelo preço vale a diversão que proporciona
This game really felt like it had a lot of love and effort went into making it, it was a very short experience (about an hour, not much shorter than my normal gaming sessions so kinda convenient) but it was plenty for it's sweet story and characters, the gameplay was also great and had little to no issues. I would like the creator to know they did a great job and I'd love to see more from them, I think an expanded sequel would be great :)
A very endearing little metroidvania with a neat central mechanic, fun from start to finish, would absolutely recommend it. Platforming feels nice and snappy, there's some tricky stuff in the endgame but it's engaging and well designed. It's quite short but great fun and well worth the price, great for a rainy afternoon.
Great game, loved the mechanics, the story is simple but cute, and the platforming is enjoyable and responsive. Definitely recommend, absolute steal at this price! (Less expensive than a cosmetic skin in other games, cmon just grab it!)
I did not expect much from a 3 bucks microvania but damn i would be lying if i said that whirlwind magician didn't surpass my expectations. It's probably my 2nd favorite microvania after Kyle Thompson's Sheepo but honestly both games are very good. Whirlwind magician's best aspect is for sure the movement and platforming, with the super unique hat throwing/teleporting mechanic as well as some other very unique mechanics i won't spoil. There's even a hidden one that's not needed to beat the game to credits, only for 100% but damn that ability is FUN! The whole game is tbh, the level design is solid and it does that 'loop back on itself' aspect that i love in MV's very well but on a small scale. Even the basic combat i found pretty enjoyable and the final boss was super unique too, a very well designed fight. I liked the cute aesthetic of the whole game despite the simple pixel art style and the music was fun too, making me think of old school runescape at times. Even the few lines of dialogue were well done in my opinion, with two likable characters bonding over their short adventure. Tbh the game has it all in a very small bite sized easy to digest experience, so no real reason not to play it!
