Forged in the Beginning and protected by the Seven Seals, there lies a place where thought and creation intertwine. The center for all realms of existence, it is the balancing force between good and evil, man and spirit. A focal point for all energies, and the one element that has kept the consuming nature of darkness at bay... Until now.

The Pros: It's a classic! It has a rich story with lots of lore. Great puzzles with a FPS format. I remember playing this when it was relatively new. Having no walkthroughs or tips on how to play it took a fair amount of time to get through. The Cons: The control mapping is...something to be desired, BUT! the mapping has been changed for steam, so it is better than the original believe it or not! Cut scenes are cool, but the people are all bad actors. They probably got them discount at a porn convention. You have to pay attention in cut-scenes to know where you need to go at times. Some puzzles aren't that instinctual, or are a bit clunky. I do recommend this game though. It is very unique! I wish they would remake it, or adapt it into a movie of sorts. Just clean up the cheesy parts and we're good!
Stil love-it this old madnes. And works perfect on Steam Deck, only need low mouse speed control setting! THIS ANCIENT GEM NEED REMASTER !!!!!!!!!!
Podsumowanie:
Realms of the Haunting to bardzo dobry klasyczny tytuł z gatunku gier przygodowych z pazurem strzeleckiej akcji w którym to gracz wciela się w syna pastora walczącego z mrocznymi siłami zła.
Reseña de Realms of the Haunting

A game from last century that showcases some of the magic of that time: mixing different genres and mixing everything with FMV. This was mind blowing when it came out, and it still manages to keep some of that magic. This game is a gem, enjoy it like it's 1996.
It's too hard to play this game on a laptop. It is kinda interesting but it's just better to play something else.
Realms of the Haunting is a bold and eccentric experiment from an era when developers were unafraid to blur the lines between genres. Created by Gremlin Interactive and later re-released by Funbox Media Ltd on Steam, it stands as one of the most unusual hybrids of the 1990s—part first-person shooter, part point-and-click adventure, and part live-action cinematic experience. The game tells the story of Adam Randall, a man drawn to an old English mansion after his father’s mysterious death. What begins as a straightforward haunted house investigation quickly unravels into a metaphysical journey through multiple dimensions, blending gothic horror, fantasy, and biblical allegory into a sprawling narrative. Few games of its time—or since—have attempted such an audacious fusion of storytelling and gameplay. The first thing that strikes you when entering the world of Realms of the Haunting is its atmosphere. The game opens in a gloomy mansion filled with locked doors, secret passages, and eerie whispers. Light filters through dusty windows, and every creaking floorboard adds to the tension. The visual design, while primitive by modern standards, carries an unmistakable charm. The textures are grainy, the geometry is simple, yet the spaces feel deliberate and immersive. Gremlin’s use of full-motion video interspersed with in-game exploration was groundbreaking for its time. Real actors deliver monologues and exchanges that might now feel campy, but they add a surreal theatricality that perfectly complements the game’s supernatural tone. The fusion of live action and polygonal environments gives the experience a strange, dreamlike quality, as if reality itself has started to fracture around you. Beneath the atmosphere lies a complex structure that constantly shifts between styles. One moment, you’re solving traditional adventure puzzles—examining items, combining clues, unlocking hidden rooms—and the next, you’re firing a revolver at a demonic horde in full first-person combat. This dual nature is what defines Realms of the Haunting. It refuses to be pinned down, often swinging from contemplative exploration to sudden bursts of chaos. The adventure segments are the more successful of the two, thanks to their clever use of environmental storytelling and haunting set pieces. The combat, on the other hand, feels dated and cumbersome. Enemies often move erratically, hit detection is inconsistent, and the movement controls are stiff. Yet even these flaws contribute to the game’s character—it’s clunky, yes, but it also feels unpredictable and raw, echoing the strange, unpolished ambition of its design. The game’s story is vast, eccentric, and often overwhelming in its scope. What starts as a haunted house mystery soon transforms into a tale of cosmic struggle, where angels, demons, and human destiny intertwine. Adam’s journey takes him far beyond the walls of the mansion, into bizarre alternate dimensions filled with arcane architecture and surreal imagery. The narrative draws heavily from Christian mythology and occult symbolism, creating a tone that is simultaneously apocalyptic and introspective. For all its melodrama, the writing has a sincerity that makes it compelling. It deals with themes of faith, sin, and redemption, but filters them through a lens of psychological unease. You’re never sure if Adam is unraveling a divine mystery or losing his mind, and that ambiguity fuels the game’s eerie fascination. The ending, like much of the story, is cryptic and open to interpretation, but it feels appropriately grand for a tale that spans multiple realities. From a technical standpoint, Realms of the Haunting is a product of its time, and its ambition often exceeds its reach. The interface combines elements of inventory management, shooting, and puzzle solving, which can make it clunky to navigate. The controls are not as smooth as contemporary shooters, and movement can feel awkward, especially during combat-heavy sections. The puzzles range from logical and satisfying to obscure and frustrating, often requiring players to think laterally—or to rely on trial and error. Despite these frustrations, there’s a genuine sense of discovery woven into the experience. The mansion itself is a masterpiece of mid-’90s level design, full of interconnected rooms, secret chambers, and looping paths that make it feel both vast and claustrophobic. It’s a place that rewards curiosity and patience, something that many modern games, with their constant guidance and waypoints, have forgotten. The presentation is deeply evocative, if dated. The voice acting has the earnest awkwardness typical of the FMV era, but that very quality lends the game a certain charm. The cast takes the material seriously, delivering lines about demons, prophecies, and otherworldly portals with conviction that borders on theatrical. The soundtrack underscores the mood with ominous drones, organ tones, and ambient whispers, creating a sense of dread that lingers long after you stop playing. Combined with the strange stillness of the environments and the surreal blend of live action and 3D models, the sound design gives the game a haunting, almost dreamlike atmosphere. It’s easy to lose track of time wandering its empty halls, drawn deeper into its labyrinthine logic. Realms of the Haunting is far from flawless, but its imperfections are part of what make it memorable. It’s a relic of a time when developers were willing to take risks without worrying about market formulas or genre purity. The game’s mixture of horror, fantasy, and adventure shouldn’t work as well as it does, yet somehow it all comes together into a singularly strange and absorbing experience. The sheer ambition behind it—its length, its narrative complexity, its stylistic experimentation—feels ahead of its time. Even when the mechanics falter, the vision behind the game remains striking. It’s not simply about fighting monsters or solving puzzles; it’s about descending into a world where the boundaries between mind, myth, and reality collapse. For players willing to embrace its quirks, Realms of the Haunting offers something few games can match: a genuine sense of mystery and discovery. It’s a sprawling, flawed, but fascinating journey into madness and metaphysics, one that rewards patience and curiosity. In a gaming landscape increasingly defined by polish and predictability, its rough edges feel refreshing. It may not be perfect, but it’s unforgettable—a strange, immersive fever dream of 1990s experimentation that still manages to cast a spell decades later. Rating: 8/10
