From announcement to release this game was at least three years in the making, in reality much longer than that. The developers created an interesting world and sowed the seeds for a lot of different stories to take place, none of which actually turned into anything but the storytelling version of a faceplant. There’s under 3 hours of gameplay here, mostly padded by tedious “hacking” mini games and point-and-click exploration with no real reward. Combined with the total of maybe five combat encounters you’ll finish the game asking yourself what the developers were doing for all those years. The combat consists of a very simplistic turn-based system where you have two actions and some limited movement each turn. The characters all start with a health bar of sorts called “motivation” which gradually moves up or down depending on how the encounter goes. Sounds good enough but in reality you end up with the absurd scenario where the main character can run low on motivation and flee the battle by the enemies yelling mean things about them from across the room, causing game over. I would spend many restless nights wondering who in the world thought that would be a fun idea if this game was memorable in any way at all. With the two types of actual gameplay both being duds you might think there’s anything else here; Not really. The animations all scream of corners cut with the characters only moving in straight lines and doing janky emote-like animations in the few cut scenes that’s there. It reminds me a lot of PC-games around 2001 in the worst possible way. The dialogue system gives the early impression that choices matter but no, most of them have a predetermined outcome and no matter what you’ll have to press the option you didn’t care for to progress the story. In the end you have a somewhat interesting story that’s poorly told through gameplay that feels like padding. A game where the developers gave up, released the 3 hours of game they had while leaving in all the teasing for the non-existent remaining two episodes and not even caring enough to patch out the “To be continued” when they abandoned the game. I wouldn’t recommend this even on sale.
Game is in fact rather neat, with a story and universe that looks interesting. I'm posting a bad review to raise your attention on the fact that it's only 3 hours of gameplay and that the next chapters will never be released since the studio went out of business (no communication since early 2020, check Steam's discussions). It's a bummer and really frustrating since a lot of the story and universe is left forever unexplained to the gamer... Worth playing if you got it for free or a really low price though. I feel like this had potential (I would read books about this universe).
Just finished it and realized this game came out in 2019.... It's 2024 and there's no news of Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 ever releasing. If you're down to just playing through the first chapter and letting your imagination play out the rest of the story in a "What if" scenario then by all means grab this game during a sale and enjoy it. It's fun, the puzzles get boring after some time but overall, I would rate it an 8/10 experience
It's a great game BUT it's short and there are chapters missing many years after release so the story is a big unknown gap. Such a shame really but understandable and I don't hold a grudge against the developers. They did a really good job with the little budget they had. I still recommend it though but you won't get a complete story.
6/10 + story + music + voice acting + puzzles - short, doesnt look like this game will get the part 2 or 3

gameplay is ok but story is unfinished.
Years after buying Rain of Reflections, I have finally been able to play it. This game crashes very hard on multiple generations of Intel graphics. The only reason I was able to get past the first section without a crash is because I bought an ATI eGPU, so buyer beware. The game itself is janky but interesting. It's a cross between a point-and-click adventure and a turn-based stealth game with a bunch of hacking minigames thrown in for good measure. Some of the mechanics really suck - you can't skip cutscenes or dialog, you have to quit the game to restart from a checkpoint if you blow a stealth section, the camera doesn't always go where you need it, and the "comms" hacking minigame is tremendously frustrating... but despite it all this is still worth a look if you are into sci-fi. You play an upper class scientist whose parents are movers and shakers in what appears to be a futuristic utopia, but even just in the game's first chapter there are a bunch of tantalizing reveals about what's actually going on. The best part of the game is the pacing, which gives the player space to breathe. You can just sit around looking at pretty stuff and listening to the excellent music, à la Life is Strange, which makes the world feel so much more authentic. Sadly the developers have abandoned the story, so we will never know what happens, but if you enjoy sci-fi and don't mind a cliffhanger it's still worth playing through what's there.
Short. "Three hours on the dot" short. Rain of Reflections is something of a proof of concept - but a concept that I very much enjoy and wish we saw more of. To my knowledge the series is on an indefinite hiatus, and rather than Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 we kinda got a very rushed little ending conversation with four different cliffhangers thrown in. The story is presented well, as is the world and almost all of the gameplay features and while the story isn't groundbreakingly original it is presented in a way where I wanted to learn all I could about it. Until that point it is a great game, though, and the only thing I found a little less than quality was, maybe, some of the audio mixing on dialogue when Luca becomes a companion and several achievement triggers not registering. Since the save system is practically nonexistent that was my largest frustration with Rain of Reflections. Besides that I am genuinely bummed that Lionbite didn't get the financial success they deserved for this one. Just seemed to slip through the cracks and the potential here for more is readily apparent.
