RAGE 2 is the most underrated, over-hated and least talked about game I’ve ever played. The gunplay and battles in this game are fantastic. You also get powers that are so much fun to use. Lots of different guns to try and powers to utilize. The best part of this game is the battles. It’s an open world game and I loved exploring. There are a ton of main quests, side quests, secret locations, resources to scavenge, challenges to beat and vehicles to drive. Oh yeah, the vehicles - there are some really fun vehicles in this game, from a flying gyrocopter to monster trucks to tanks, I had a blast driving the vehicles. This is a AAA game through and through - good voice acting, high production values, nice graphics. On maxed out graphical settings at 4k resolution and 120 frames per second… RAGE 2 still looks fantastic for being a game released in 2019. As an open world game completionist, RAGE 2 gave me plenty to do. Including the Rise of the Ghosts DLC, I got a very enjoyable ~48 hours out of the game so far. Actually, I had such a good time that I’m planning on doing a New Game+ run. There are some issues - I encountered a fair number of glitches during the game, and a few crashes. Sometimes there would be some crazy texture glitches. The enemy AI isn’t terrible, but it isn’t great either - sometimes the enemies will just stand around, get stuck in corners etc. An event/objective in the main game never triggered for me no matter what I tried… so I couldn’t get the true 100% completion I was hoping for. Still, none of these issues or other issues were bad enough to significantly impact my enjoyment of the game. I got the Digital Deluxe Edition of RAGE 2 in a bundle for the price of $3.33 which almost feels like a crime for the amount of content and production values that this game has. The deluxe edition includes some cool extras, mainly the Rise of the Ghosts DLC, but also the DOOM BFG weapon and a vendor you can visit to turn on cheats in the game (still haven’t tried this yet). The Rise of the Ghosts DLC is solid, but not as good as the main campaign. The DLC puts you in a new region that is very well designed and a cool setting (reminds me of The Last of Us) but there are only two enemy types - one of the new enemy types is pretty cool, the other new enemy type is uninspired. I think it would have been better if they included some of the enemies from the main campaign in the DLC along with the new enemy types. A good portion of the missions in the DLC are pretty repetitive/boring, but some of the main missions were solid. As of writing this review, the Deluxe Edition is just $4 more on Steam than the base game, I’d say that Rise of the Ghosts DLC is definitely worth $4. The BFG and other stuff are just bonuses. There is another DLC - TerrorMania - but the only way to buy this DLC is to purchase an in-game currency, and the amount needed for the deluxe version of TerrorMania comes out to something like $17. As a completionist, I’ll probably break down and get it eventually. Objectively RAGE 2 is probably an 8 out of 10, but I’m rating it a 9 out of 10 because I really enjoyed it. Don’t believe the mixed reviews on Steam - if you enjoy fast-paced first person battles in the vein of DOOM, exploring open worlds, scavenging and driving vehicles, you will almost definitely find enjoyment in this game. RAGE 2 is highly recommended.
It took a couple attempts to get into it, but turns out Rage 2 is pretty awesome. The first 1-2 hours are unimpressive, and my "open-world chore-list" fatigue kicked in early, but once you settle into the groove of "drive here, shoot stuff, drive there, shoot more stuff, etc" it starts to feel real good. The story is pointless and skippable, but the gunplay is fantastic. It's like mid to close range combat and it feels so good. You never have to worry about stealth, or inventory management, or comparing weapon stats, or any of that tedious stuff. Rage 2 lets you just shoot things. This game might look like another FarCry, but it plays more like Doom meets Mad Max.

This game refused to work at a fundamental level on launch 7 years ago, and still does not now. PAINFULLY low frames, missing assets and visual issues that rival malware. My Specs dwarf this game's requirements yet it remains an immovable, unplayable, disease distributing piece of BRICKWARE. Liquidate Yourselves, Avalanche. -67/10 would troubleshoot for my entire playtime again
Mad Max 2.0
I got this on sale, cause I really liked Avalanche's Mad Max and Just Cause. But this is probably the most boring fps I have played. I got about an hour in the game, and it is just painfully dull. I lost my vehicle fairly early, cause I died and then respawned at base and got no cash to summon it again I guess. So stuck on foot with looooooooooooooooooooooooots of nothing. Weird thing is, I saw countless vehicles when mine was still around, now, they're all nowhere to be seen, so can't even hijack one. (assuming you can hijack enemy vehicles) And it's just so slow. I move slow. It feels slow. It's just BORING. I keep seeing people talk about the gunplay, but my lord do the two weapons I have feel like they are squirt guns or something. There is no weight behind shots. And it takes so many to down an enemy, except the ones that explode. And probably the worst feeling starting pistol I have ever seen. Technical side of things is also bad. I have a pretty dang beefy pc setup. It should not struggle with a game from 2019 at all. Yet, there is a ton of stuttering, and screen tearing. Big fps drops, and crashes. I will definitely be refunding this one if I can. Even on sale I would advise others to pass this one by.
