There are two things I look for in platformers. 1: Common sense in design. 2: Good controls. I can happily report that this game has and excels at both. New mechanics are introduced at a steady pace and never overstay their welcome. The quantity of mechanics is relatively small, but the quality is exceptional. Every inch of this game is well thought out and put together in a way that feels exciting and new, yet cozy and familiar at the same time. Good controls are snappy, fluid, and engaging. I played this with an Xbox 360 controller and did a few levels on keyboard, and the game plays amazing on both. Walking, jumping, platforming, bouncing on spikes, everything feels as it should. There is no forward momentum so when you stop, you stop. This feels right in this game and is not jarring to me. In the time shown, I have completed the main levels. I did not collect every collectible, and there is a bit more to do after the main levels are over. Overall, I feel like I stole it at this price. The game is intelligently designed, fun to play and all around a very solid effort by the folks involved. Highly recommended.
Ahh, the full game is finally here! I've been playing since the demo dropped, and I must tell you, if you’re looking for a platformer that will challenge your reflexes, your patience, and your resolve, Quetzal's Call will keep you on your toes from the very beginning! The controls are tight, the movement is fluid, but the difficulty ramps up with an almost cruel sense of timing and precision. This game throws a variety of obstacles your way, each requiring near-perfect execution. Spikes? Sure. Lava? Of course. Floating platforms that vanish beneath your feet? You bet. But the beauty of Quetzal's Call is that it never feels unfair. It’s a game that will leave you frustrated at times but will reward you immensely when you finally nail that perfect sequence of jumps and hits. The feeling of clearing a tough section is nothing short of euphoric. If you enjoy challenging platformers, then this is a must-play!

Quetzal is one of those games that just feels incredible to play. The movement is tight, smooth, and ridiculously responsive, making every dash, leap, and fireball + thunderspike climb feel effortless (when you get it right). It reminded me a lot of Hollow Knight, not just in how precise it is, but in that flow state you hit when everything clicks. But Quetzal isn’t just about fast reactions. Some sections feel more like a puzzle, where you have to pause, rethink your inputs, and really plan your approach. It’s not just about pressing buttons quickly—it’s about understanding the rhythm of the level and figuring out how to move through it. The level design is fantastic, but World 2 and the final two bosses were real highlights for me. I finished it in two days of uninterrupted gameplay, constantly telling myself just one more try—only to look up and realize an hour had flown by. It’s got everything I love about platformers, and it ended up being the perfect way to spend my spring break. For a small indie game, Quetzal feels like a true labor of love. Every level, its art, every mechanic. All crafted with such care, and you can tell. If you’re into movement-heavy platformers that demand precision but feel amazing when you master them, this one’s absolutely worth playing.
Ohhh yeah, this is a good one!! Celeste with HK pogo!!! I played the demo a bunch I already love it and the first few levels of the full release are amazing!
One of the most if not the most fun platformer I've ever played. So if you like platformers buy this game right now! (ITS ONLY 10$!!)
Very fun directly to the action platformer! It's honestly impressive how fast it got me zooming around the stage. It feels like the game teaches you very well and so seamlessly that you don't even realize how much you learned until you look back and haven't touched the ground in quite a while. I also personally like the bosses and think they are memorable and cool.
If you liked celeste and the hollow knight path of pain you will like this game. Its a short little platformer that doesn't beat around the bush and gets decently challenging very fast. A big complaint i have with alot of platformers is that they take too long to get actually fun and difficult, and when they do finally get there they're already nearly done. This game lets you get used to the basics for about 5 stages before it starts ramping up quickly. I didnt encounter many bugs in my playthrough aside from the final boss, I really hope the devs fix some of the bugs plaguing that fight because aside from them the fight is actually pretty fun and a decent challenge. If you're the type to speedrun these types of games the game provides nice level selecting tool and an ingame speedrun timer which is always nice. The main area this game shines in is its platforming. The level design is great and you can tell its made by people who are fans of the genre and know what makes a platformer fun. 7.5/10
One of the best platformer games. The difficulty improves nicely as the game goes on and become more diverse with its mecanics. The sound design is great and the comfy music makes even the hardest levels chill to do. And when you cleared the game you can still play again to find shortcuts, collect the hidden idols and try to improve your time! Gameplay-wise, I've never got any trouble with the controls themselves and strating from the simple "double jump" + "pogo stick" you'll have a nice palette of options in the end, but without getting out of control speed wise. And finally, the game looks gorgeous! The pixel art is sharp and the coloring makes it really easy to identify foes, bullets and spikes. It's simple and yet effective.
