Sorry to say but the combat is garbage in all of these games, even the fan remake of 2 which most consider has the best combat. Yikes. It's clunky, boring, frustrating, and highly repetitive. I know said fan remake of 2 lets you turn down the combat difficulty, but I don't think the other games let you. But even if they do, combat is a big point of these games and we sacrifice some of the puzzle gameplay of other PnC games of the era to have it. So making it a non-issue gives you a watered down game from both sides: the combat and puzzles. So you're left with games that have crappy combat and mediocre point and click gameplay. Play an action game for combat, and play other sierra classics like King's Quest for the PnC. Instead play Mage's Initiation and Quest for Infamy, both of which have combat similar to QfG but tolerable, and better PnC gameplay. If you really want to check these games out, playing them in Scummvm is a must. Be sure to enable fullscreen in its settings so the resolution isn't tiny. There's also fan patches for games 3-5 and the aforementioned fan remake of 2 so those are a must. Only 5 can't be played in scumm so you're forced to deal with its low res. Other than that the characters and such are cool, especially the Katta people.
Quest for Glory is one of my all time favorite game series. You simply have to play to find out how amazing these games were,

Classic point and click adventure series. Always have a blast with the 1st and 4th games, though not so keen on the 2nd and 3rd personally as I never grew up playing either of those, and also haven't played the 5th one yet, not so keen as it seemed to move away from the point and click formula. If you love older point and click adventures give this one a go. 1st game has both the older original game style with the chat prompt to interact and also the updated version closer to the 4th game.
These are some of the OG text parser games (or point-and-click for the remakes). If you're somehow unfamiliar with Sierra games, be prepared for lots of puns, silly references, and dad jokes. The stories and characters are fun. The battle system is janky, but not a huge deal. A must-play for fans of the genre.
I've enjoyed the playthru tho the crashing is a bummer.

Love the story and humor. Alot of grinding and easy to soft lock, but the characters and story are totally worth it. Also its fun to replay. Definitely save often and in as many different slots as possible.
Honestly it's worth it just for Quest for Glory 1. The original is fantastic, and the VGA version is one of the earlier "Remake/Remasters" in the gaming world - and easily one of the best. Easily a 10/10 game. The rest of the series isn't as good, and honestly makes a pretty steep decline after the third game. The 4th has some incredibly frustrating puzzles, solutions that you'd swear would work only to find out they don't, and is barely saved by exceptional voice acting and settings. The 5th was a total miss for me. Too much focus on trying to highlight the 3D engine, and an awful combat experience. Not that combat was exactly amazing at any point in the series, but it was always fairly enjoyable. Until the 5th game. It's... bad.
From the whole pack, the standout adventures are Quest for Glory I (the enhanced VGA remake), III, and IV, each capturing the series’ unique blend of humor, mystery, and fantasy. It’s hard to pin down exactly what genre these games belong to. You get to freely roam the world using a point-and-click adventure system, while RPG mechanics and combat stats have a strong impact depending on your chosen class - Fighter, Mage, or Thief. There’s even a special Paladin class for players who import their save files across games, a brilliant touch of continuity. The world itself changes dynamically between day and night. While the overall story remains unified, each class offers unique paths and quests, allowing you to experience additional content and piece together the full picture. It’s a timeless experience that rewards curiosity, creativity, and a little persistence, a true classic by Corey and Lori from the golden era of Sierra adventures.
