A New Spin on Tetris
Quatros Origins provides a refreshing twist on a 2D block puzzle game we all know and love. By manipulating tetromino and pentomino blocks in an effort to clear filled horizontal lines, Quatros takes things to a new level by rotating the build stage by ninety degrees every time a piece is set. Even though this game is fantastic on its own, local multiplayer support ensures that 3 other people in the room can join in on the fun.
Gameplay
Game Modes There are currently 4 different game modes, single or local multiplayer supported, to play in Quatros Origins, described below. There is also a leaderboard for each mode (global and against friends).

Normal.
Hardcore.
Raid: limited to 40 blocks/pieces.
Fixate: removes block/piece rotation (the stage will still rotate).
In every game mode, the build stage will rotate 90 degrees to the left (clockwise if viewed from the top) after each piece is placed. The pieces will affect every side of the build area. With extremely careful planning, quick thinking and impeccable foresight, it is possible to maneuver undesirable pieces in such a way to create a favorable grid (after stage rotation) for the next piece. In addition to the recognizable tetrominoes, pentominoes are also included, greatly varying any strategy you may have developed if you happen to be only familiar with playing Tetris. In case you may be wondering, the familiar 7 one-sided tetrominoes are copyrighted/trademarked, so removing the pentominoes may get too uncomfortably close to infringement. These pentomino pieces can be described as: T, U, V, Z shapes (not to be confused with T, Z tetromino shapes). Video Gameplay https://youtu.be/U-aFIPNcbgU Random Observations This review does not follow a general structure due to Quatros Origins’ relatively straightforward/friendly nature. What you see in the Store page’s trailer and screenshots is exactly what you get. Several random observations are presented below to provide a little bit of insight into playing the game.

The stage rotation is as fun as it sounds.
There will be pieces that “float” depending on the viewing angle.
Preview of the next piece shows incorrect orientations at times in Fixate mode.
Warning: once it begins to go downhill, it is extremely difficult to recover – a challenging yet very rewarding aspect of this game.
I thought that I might get motion-sick while playing; so far, I have not.
There are beautiful line clear animations and sleek visuals/UI.

Controls
Controller Support Controllers were clearly designed to be the preferred method of playing for Quatros, as seen by the lack of multiplayer support on a single keyboard. Although the Store page lists support for NES/SNES controllers, it is still unsure as to whether classic arcade sticks are supported. It may also be important for hardcore/veteran players to know that Quatros Origins indeed supports the option to rebind key bindings/reconfigure the controller mapping (for the Primary and Secondary players). Although I personally do not have an issue with the default layout, a major complaint in many of the negative reviews of Tetris Ultimate is with regards to a lack of controller configuration (among other issues). It is very fortunate that Quatros does not make this mistake. Advanced controller options also include the ability to customize the Delay and Repeat Rate. For those that may be interested, the Delay controls how long it takes for a piece to start sliding once you hold left or right. The Repeat Rate controls how fast the pieces slide left and right.
Conclusion
Advised Suggestions Quatros is already at a polished and relatively complete state. There are, however, a few suggestions that may improve the gameplay listed below.

Game tunings/advanced options for veteran players, such as:

IHS - Initial Hold System: allows holding the next piece during line clear/stage rotation delay.
IRS - Initial Rotation System: allows the next piece to be rotated during line clear/stage rotation delay.

Provide a mode with no stage rotation; or a mode with full stage control (similar to Pokemon Puzzle League 3D matches).
Allow a single keyboard to support local multiplayer.
Ability to rebind controls for tertiary and quaternary players.
Support classic arcade sticks (if they are not already).
Provide an option to toggle ghost/shadow pieces (landing location).
Verdict Quatros Origins is a great and addictively fun product. Its unique stage rotation, sleek aesthetics, and assortment of game modes earn it a recommendation for any fan of block puzzle/casual games or retro arcade/score attack games. With such a lack of similar games in this genre, especially on Steam, Quatros Origins definitely shines above the rest and deserves a chance to be in your library.
Great game! Like Tetris with a twist! Really great for short bursts. Amazing audiovisuals! The developer responds really quickly on feedback!
Sadly the game becomes less responsive on higher speeds, so quite a disappointment for hardcore fans. Also making the grid blend with the background is stupid. It's an okay twist on tetris, but 1$ maximum. Can't recomend.
This is a neutral review (neither 'YES' nor 'NO'). It's a game for Tetris enthusiasts only. If you're one, than thats for you. If you're not I would recommend a different indie/puzzle/casual game as the twist mechanism does not improve much on the original Tetris experience.
Just saw that this game was on sale after it was greenlite awhile ago. Bought it downloaded and played a few games. Got to say make even a experienced tetris player like me scramble and try to figure where to place blocks. I love this game already if you havent played yet I would highly consider buying.
Pros: - The music - The block design & variety, don't know if the shapes are proper random but there are at least more than Tetris & that was nice & annoying because I wasn't expecting to need to make space for a + symbol. - Line explosion graphics are satisfying as is getting the | block on the side where you've set a channel for it. - I will probably assist my spatial thinking if I can get my head around remembering 4 board layouts at once. Cons: - I never realised how awkward keyboard only menus were until this. - The pieces auto-lock when they touch another one, so you can't do the just-in-time slide across the board that produces many heart stopping saves in Tetris. It basically renders the top 4-6 lines of the board useless in the later stages as the piece will drop in & you have basically zero time to adjust. - The pacing in the early levels is very slow due to essentially playing 4 games of Tetris at once, for the first 5 minutes of my first game it felt like the most boring game I'd played in a while; that goes away by level 6 or so of your first game when the speed of gameplay heats up & you know what to expect for future games, but I feel it needs addressing. - White background with a slightly shinier white grid is an odd choice. The grid is hard to see when you need to make some fast channel decisions & bright white is annoying for long periods. It doesn't need to be dazzlingly colourful experience in the background like I guess Neon Drive or even Lumines, but...something to not blind me when games run 15+ minutes. - 'Fixate' the game mode where you can't rotate the pieces feels like something you could do in other games of this type, but wouldn't. - I do hope we get a 'Piece Hold' function, seems like it'd provide some good strategy.
Very fun take on the Tetris genre. You really need to plan ~4 steps ahead of you want to make the most of the pieces you're given. It's a bit hard playing this after Tetris Effect though, as the blocks stick as soon as they land here and Tetris gives you a little bit more wiggle room to make last-second changes.
