PLEASE give Qelochia a shot. I am BEGGING.
It is easily worth $5.00 and a few hours of your time. The game description and conceptual pitch simply do NOT give it justice — I promise you that whatever you're expecting this game to be, you are not prepared for what this game actually is — and once it sinks it's hooks in... you will be utterly enthralled until you see it through. This is a difficult game to review. Going in blind, slowly learning about the characters, the setting, and where the plot was heading... was such a huge part of what enamoured me, but I can't share any of that without SPOILING everything! So much of what makes Qelochia amazing is simply experiencing the narrative unfold for yourself.
But, okay, fine. Here's my best pitch:
This is what I feel like I can share that might help convince you to give this game a shot:

It's an excellently paced slowburn narrative with fantastic prose. It doesn't drag on or waste your time — every scene progresses the narrative and expands on the characters and the world they inhabit.
Do you like worldbuilding? Do you like rich and expansive settings? Do you like when settings explore the sociopolitical implications of their fantastical elements? Do you like when this is all communicated organically, rather than in boring exposition dumps or random flavour text? If the answer is yes, then I have got great news for you...
This game has Themes. They are significant and plentiful, and yet never feel heavy handed or out of place at all. From the grounded and painfully human, to the existential and metaphysical... boredom, crushes, hating your job, suffering, war, and what it means to have a purpose.
It's a love story. You get to choose how it ends. You won't want to.
JUST. PLAY THIS GAME!!! OKAY? PLEASE!!? I'M GOING ACTUALLY INSANE!!!
yuri and horror and a weird creature its all i could have ever asked for..... the narrative explores themes of love, grief, and what is to be alive in such a lovely way, and the characters are very well developed given the relatively short length of the game. the art and music are awesome and both do a great job in setting the atmosphere for the game. suuuper fun character designs and i am a fan of the ascii art!! an experience that is definitely worth the $5 :D
come on, do you have roughly two hours to experience love and grief and art and flowers and stars and war crimes and exploding into pieces
Qelochia is a short game about two parallel developing romances. It's long enough to leave you wanting more from the setting and characters, and I hope that the dev does decide to continue either the respective stories within Qelochia, or just within the setting itself. Definitely worth the money in my personal opinion.
An engaging and emotional story (mostly linear but with two endings depending on a choice at the end) with some really cool worldbuilding. Despite its short length and the fact that there are 4 protagonists, they are all well developed and easy to empathize with.
It is like a 5 out of 10, just barely passable. The romance feels super rushed and pushed for the main characters, same with the AI and the Bloodheart. Out of nowhere the AI just says that it has always hated the main characters and wants them dead, but they have never shown to be rude, mean, or malicious in any way. Feels like that was just tacked on to try and make them more relatable to each other. Same with the two woman as well. The Cyborg gets into drawing and the Flowerbed woman just instantly falls in love, and yes I know the excuse is because they are both "lonely" but it was not sold well enough. Interesting little story worth a quick read but do not expect more out of it.
First things first, I found this game out thanks to the Feb. 2026 Steam Next Fest. It's hard to say what drew me to the title, the unique contrast between the character portraits and the ASCII art style, the strangely fascinating name, or I was just feeling a short romance VN. Regardless of what it was, I think leaving feedback as to what made me want to buy this at launch is useful for those making art. And as for Qelochia, it's quite lovely art. It's a short (1-2 hour) examination of love and grief, with 2 concurrent romances that inevitably lead to conflict. The art is captivating for the imagination, and it's very clear that the developer thought a lot not just about the content of their worldbuilding, but how to appropriately incorporate it into the stories being told here. The atmosphere and music of this game feel restrained, in a good way. It gives you just enough, unconcerned with anything that would seem excessive or drawing away from the narrative. My only complaints are that there were a few uses of in-universe terminology that felt confusing (for example, when Impiana refers to her Dad with she/her pronouns, it was unclear until later in the conversation that this was a deliberate choice), and there are a handful of spelling errors. These are minor gripes in an otherwise lovely piece of art that is worth the time.
Qelochia comes at a time where my interest in writing-centric games is at its peak. And the kind of writing I enjoy the most gives you glimpses into a world that is stranger and more complex than you could assume from the start. It's clear that the developer has spent a lot of time thinking about this setting and the figures that inhabit it, and they've shown the perfect amount of restraint in conveying those thoughts to the player. Each new perspective captures another angle and deepens my fascination. This is the kind of worldbuilding that will leave me ruminating on theories late at night. Now what about the actual game? Well, it's interactive fiction. A story to be taken scene-by-scene at your pace, organized through a good user interface with just the right amount ambience and feedback to satisfy without distracting from the writing. The developer knew not to bog down the story with gimmicks: there is only one choice and they made sure that it mattered. The characters are believable and painfully human, the visuals are a hypnotic set of pseudo-ASCII art and hand-drawn portraits that grease the wheels of imagination, and the conclusion is impactful. Worth five bucks and 2 hours, easy. TL:DR - If you like the strange worldbuilding and writing of games like Sunless Sea and Cultist Simulator, or generally enjoy character-focused science fiction stories, Qelochia is worth your time.
An exploration of what it means to love, and how the ways in which we connect with our beloved is shaped by the systems and experiences we come from. The worldbuilding is intriguing and the characters are fun. I am team philonitor all the way. The sound design is good and sets the mood for what is happening, and the minimalist ascii background art is cool. I also liked the character portraits as well.
A great story set in a very interesting world.
