If you love the mecha genre this game is for you. If not then just play it anyway because its fun
we do not see anything .... 5/10
Cheap and cheerful Indie arcade/action game that tries fusing Zone of the Enders with Ace Combat, and doesn't do a terrible job of it actually. It's not deep, and it doesn't pretend to be, but it is quite enjoyable. You can *viably* do combat in first person cockpit view as well. <- this bit's important for me. There's a serviceable single player campaign that's very much in the format of Ace Combat on a limited budget. There are also a couple of extra modes to add replayability, with "Survival" being a simple wave mode, and "Warfront" being more progression/upgrade focused. It's not amazing, but it achieves what it sets out to and is fun. If you like mechs and AC and would like an indie mix of the two, go for it. Especially if you get it on one of its very deep sales.
5/10
OK for a few dollar but in the survival mode I spent 20 minutes chasing a boss that has an unlimited supply of energy and magically stays twice as far away as you can lock or shoot. Started to enjoy, immediately lost interest. Games are more fun even when they're difficult if you can at least have a chance. This just got real dumb real quick.
Had this game sitting in my library for quite a long time now. I tried it out because I was bored, and oh my goodness, I did not know what I was missing out on. I haven’t completed it yet as of writing, but I can already say it’s been a great ride. It is far from perfect: the voice acting could be better, the subtitles had a couple of errors, the controls feel a little unintuitive, and the story can be a bit cliché. I don’t mind the lack of customization though, since we’re playing as specific characters and not as ourselves. Is it fun? Absolutely. The fast-paced action is exhilarating, the mech designs are fantastic from ace customs to grunts, and the world-building is pretty alright. I also love the many homages to Gundam sprinkled throughout. And the soundtrack is beautiful, my favorite track is the BGM for the space elevator mission (Thermopylae), which clearly shows Sawano-inspiration. Overall, Project Nimbus may not be flawless, but it’s fun, and full of passion for the genre. If you’ve had it sitting in your library like I did, dust it off, you might be surprised how much fun you’ll have.
The mech controls are very satisfying, the story isn't a masterpiece but it's engaging enough, and it has some other game modes in case you finish the campaign. My only complaints are 1) It's actually pretty hard to see the enemy mechs, they are too small and most of the time you'll be dogfighting at high speed. It's not a gameplay issue since there is auto-lock, but the mechs on this game are so detailed... It's a shame we can't visually see much. 2) (This is linux specific), most cutscenes on Linux does not work, showing the "TV rainbow error" instead. So we can only hear the audio and see the subtitles. I thought this was specific to my PC specs, but checking for the game on ProtonDB it seems like i am not the only linux user that is running through this issue In general, a great 08/10 game. It's fun, It has a balanced difficulty, the soundtrack is nice and the story is engaging.
