I don't keep up on game industry news, or follow developers and studios, but even I have heard of the claster fack with ubisoft subscription dude saying people don't own their games. Whatever. Also I have no idea if somasim, the developer of project highrise, has any relationship to ubisoft. Or if there's something skeevy going on between steam and ubisoft (seems more likely to me, but again I can't really care.) What I do know for sure, is I bought this game Dec 2019, and have not played it for about 4 years now. I got nostalgic browsing steam the other day, and a notice about a contest in an unrelated game (2ptcampus) reminded me that Project Highrise once almost made me start modding and making my own custom content. So I looked through the workshop and subscribed to more offices, and then went to my game library and clicked "Play." Up popped a EULA agreement, which said in the 2nd paragraph, "no ownership is being transferred or assigned and this agreement should not be construed as a sale" FOUR YEARS after I bought it. 7 years after its release. 4 years after I already played it for nearly 50 hours. This feels so unnecessary for a 2016 game that I bought in 2019, a game i haven't played since. Almost like, why now? What is going to happen now, that makes it important enough to block access to the game unless I agree to either the same EULA I already agreed to in 2019, or to NEW terms that didn't exist in 2019? Feels hinky, and since (as M. Gault reviewed in 2016) Project Highrise is a pale yet functional shadow of SimTower, well I don't think I'll miss much by just chucking this game. also unplayable on linux, doesn't even open.

Got gifted this game, and decided hey lemme just play for a lil bit then have a nap. I realize like 6hrs later that Ive been playing this game for 6 hours straight questioning where the ♥♥♥♥ did the time go. 10/10 surprisingly addicting
Project Highrise is a meticulously crafted simulation and management game that invites players to step into the role of a skyscraper developer, tasked with designing, building, and managing every aspect of a towering vertical city. Developed by SomaSim and published by Kalypso Media, this game offers a detailed and satisfying take on the building sim genre, combining strategic planning with the daily challenges of keeping tenants happy and profitable. For fans of complex management sims, Project Highrise delivers a rewarding experience where attention to detail and long-term vision are paramount. The gameplay centers around constructing and managing a skyscraper from the ground up. Players are responsible for every element—from architectural layout to utilities, security, and tenant relationships. Unlike traditional city-building games, Project Highrise focuses exclusively on the microcosm of a single building, which brings an intimate and intricate approach to management. You must carefully balance office spaces, retail shops, residential units, and service facilities while ensuring the infrastructure supports the needs of all occupants. Power, water, ventilation, and even garbage disposal systems need to be meticulously planned to avoid breakdowns that could disrupt tenant satisfaction. What truly sets Project Highrise apart is the depth of its simulation mechanics. Each tenant has specific needs and demands that must be met, including factors like rent price, amenities, and noise levels. Businesses require foot traffic and complementary neighboring services, while residents prioritize comfort and convenience. The game’s complex AI system simulates tenant behavior realistically, leading to emergent gameplay where tenant satisfaction impacts your income and reputation. Keeping a harmonious mix of tenants is both a challenge and an art, making every decision about layout and services crucial to success. The building process itself is intuitive but rich with strategic layers. Players can customize the structure’s floors, corridors, and facilities with a vast array of modular parts, allowing for unique designs and efficient layouts. Upgrades and expansions become available as you progress, giving access to high-tech utilities and premium tenants. The pacing encourages careful experimentation and adaptation, as poorly planned sections can lead to tenant loss or costly repairs. This level of control fosters a strong sense of ownership and pride in seeing your skyscraper flourish. Visually, Project Highrise embraces a clean, isometric pixel art style that is both charming and functional. The clarity of the visuals makes it easy to monitor the status of various building systems and tenants, while the detailed animations of people moving about add life and immersion to your vertical city. The user interface is well-designed, providing access to a wealth of information without overwhelming the player, which is essential given the game’s complexity. Ambient music and sound effects subtly enhance the atmosphere, creating a focused yet pleasant environment for long management sessions. While Project Highrise offers immense depth, it may not appeal to those looking for fast-paced or flashy gameplay. The learning curve can be steep, especially for newcomers to the management sim genre, as success hinges on understanding and juggling numerous interdependent systems. Additionally, the game’s focus on realism and detail means that progress can be slow, with long-term planning required to see tangible results. However, for players who enjoy thoughtful strategy and problem-solving, this pace allows for satisfying mastery and continuous engagement. In conclusion, Project Highrise is a deeply engaging and well-executed simulation game that brings the complexities of skyscraper management to the forefront. Its rich tenant simulation, strategic building design, and careful resource management create a rewarding experience for fans of detailed management sims. With its elegant pixel art style and robust mechanics, the game offers countless hours of engrossing gameplay, making it a must-play for those who appreciate intricate systems and the satisfaction of watching their architectural vision come to life. NO and HELL NO. On easy I can never get anything going at all because of two factors in every ####EN game i have tried. I've spent hours restarting and trying. FACTOR 1 MAINTENANCE cost are ridiculous. When starting it takes 4-6 offices to make enough money to support the electric and phone cost. Elevators are 50/each so they way game works elevator from floor 1 to floor 2 is 100 per day!!!!! FACTOR 2 TENANTS WILL BECOME UNHAPPY WAY TO MUCH AND M0VE OUT OVER ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. RENT, NOISE, NEIGHBOR, VIEW, ETC.... (I GUESS THE F###EN RENT NEEDS TO SET TO ZERO AND THEY NEED TO HAVE FLOOR TO THEMSELVES TO BE HAPPY) Keep in mind all this on easy. Its a game of punishment instead of rewards. I really tried to like this game. NO THANK YOU!!! Not sure when i bought this wish I could have tried it then and returned it.
Love this game so much, infinite design possibilities. Downside is Steam only allow up to 50 mods subscribed, even there were hundreds of good design mods out there!!
i like this game. i want to not like it, but i like it. its simple, its genuine, and it doesnt care at all. you could create whatever tower you want with whatever tenants, and the game just goes with it. its a tight economy game, where small mistakes start to snowball until you crash your economy, buts thats part of the fun. its a simple management game, yes, but its a nice one. one of those strange games where you could play one or two hours and be done with it for the day.
