About
Planet Scanner is a semi-procedural horror narrative disguised as a job simulator set in an isolated, cramped space station.
You are ScanCorp's newest Planet Scanner and your task is to discover, study, and claim distant planets on behalf of your employer. The business of selling planets is booming, especially as the search for intelligent alien life heats up...
Use your computer to check emails, get your daily assignments, and learn more about the galaxy around you. Stay up to date with the news, check the market prices for certain planetary traits, and buy upgrades to make your job easier!
The telescope is your main way of observing the universe, so use it to lock onto a star and bring up its' local system on the map console. Scan planets to discover them, learn more about their unique properties, and upload them to ScanCorp's servers.
You may be asked to ping planets in search of potential alien transmissions. Lock in the waveforms, decrypt the signals, and hopefully don't open a Pandora's box you never could have fathomed.
TAKE IMAGES OF PLANET SURFACES
Sometimes, the only way to learn more about a planet is to take a look for yourself. Find a good imaging sight, match the coordinates, and see what lurks on the surface.
Total playtime averages about 2.5 hours. There are 23 in-game nights.

Wow, it's good. I mean that. Sure, it's a slow burn; and the way the story is presented means that to get the most of it you really have to immerse yourself in it. That also dictates how the horror elements are delivered - if you're here just for that, then be advised: most of the game is indeed planet scanning and managing your meager finances. That's part of what makes this game what it is. Delicious. Now, maybe it's just me, but I found certain parallels between the events of the game and, well, reality. I don't know if that was intentional, but it made the horror hit that much harder. I'll probably be thinking about it for quite some time. Another thing: there is some AI-generated art in the game. But even though I am very strongly opposed to everything AI these days, in this particular case it's... fine, actually. It fits its purpose rather well. Don't hate the game for it, pretty much everything is handcrafted except that particular part. You'll see. Oh, and 22% of players beat the game. That's a pretty good number, although for a game this short, perhaps it should be higher. The length of my playthrough was 6 hours because I decided to play on slow - normal speed was a bit too hectic, which I feel is detrimental to the vibe of the game. Yes, I tried both. And yes, I recommend slow. You already know everything you need to decide whether this game is for you or not. Curator Page
This game is oddly satisfying and mildly addictive. It's easy to develop a "just one more night" itch. *However, limited replay value. *Edit - After finishing my first play through I was hoping there was some sort of New Game +, unfortunately, there is not.
9/10 There's quite a bit of fun to be had here and the stock market mechanic is very well implemented. I can definitely see myself playing this multiple times to try to 100% not just for the achievements, but because this game is worth your time. Very excited to see what they add and what else Ham Goblin will release in the future.
First impressions are good. The f-bombs are unnecessary and feel childish / out of place. https://youtu.be/g5RnrPFTpCA

I'm really liking the gameplay loop so far. And the humor's pretty good so far too. Loving the slow build up of the horror.
part strategy, part horror game. not the scariest game i've ever played, as it isn't full of jump scares, but it does dish up a slow burn psychological horror experience that i've been describing as "eldritch horror in outer space." i found the scanning mechanic to be a little confusing at first but after the first couple of nights i got into a rhythm with it that helped me push through the game quickly. earning corpbucks allows you to buy upgrades to your machinery which helps you make more money, which makes finding valuable planets more satisfying. overall it was a short but fun game with great storytelling and a nice soundtrack
Overall, I enjoyed Planet Scanner. It has aspects that remind me of other games & media (Iron Lung, Lethal Company, and Gemini Home Entertainment come to mind), but generally remains original. Which is awesome, because I don't really think I've seen this mix of ideas before in a game, and I did enjoy it. I have some quips & nitpicks, but they're pretty minor. Length is about 2.5 hours, so use that to judge if you want to get it on sale or not. Support your local Godot dev!
Pretty good. Kinda like Papers, Please in space, where you evaluate planets for profit instead of documents. As time progresses, more mechanics are added to shake up the process, although I do wish there was a bit more variety between star systems, like having twin suns, or asteroid belts, all with their gameplay implications, because without it, they don't much differ from one another. Still, I enjoyed my time with Planet Scanner and would recommend it.
Wow, what a ride! 100% recommended existential dread.
