Less game, more experience. Fire Place works as both a short-session way to chill and a long one if you need a sleeping aid. Once you've got a decent fire going it'll keep itself active for about 20 minutes depending on available fuel, or you can tinker with it every 5 or so minutes to maintain it indefinitely. There are multiple scenes to work with, ranging from a generic campfire to an old Victorian-era fireplace in a vaguely spooky room. Note here each fireplace layout features different audio, some of which is great and some...well, you'll wonder why its addition to the game was celebrated lol. There are thankfully sliders for the music as well as everything else including how the fire reacts to materials - modifying some of these though can cause your GPU to break a bit of a sweat so low-spec users should be wary. Worthy buy in the Quiet Places bundle on the store page when it's discounted, but it's a stretch at full price. Fire Place is not something you'll get many hours out of unless your game library's pretty lacking, but you will enjoy your time with it.
After playing this game I am convinced without a doubt in my mind, that if the unfortunate circumstances would occur, that I would need to start a fire to keep myself from freezing to death, the sheer frustration and rage I will feel for my incompetence to start a fire will keep me quite toasty enough to survive until I am rescued or starve to death.
LOVE the concept of this game, but it doesnt play very well in its current state. With some adjustments it will be a very relaxing little side-"game" on your second monitor while doing other stuff. PROS: 1. Cozy vibes and relaxing soundtrack. 2. Great concept (if it worked better)! CONS: 1. Clunky; you have no control over where the firewood ends up, and its very hard to move it with the tongs. 2. The flame itself - which is sort of the main thing of the whole game - doesnt look very realistic or pretty. Its more like a glowing solid mass, if you can see it at all (my graphic card is decent and should work fine with this). 3. Theres no way to zoom out to see more of the surroundings. I would have liked a bigger focus on detail and atmosphere in the suroundings, and a wider zoom range to see more than just the fire. The design on some of the backgrounds are a little too simplistic and have a cold feel, which counteracts the coziness of the fire.
Like another reviewer I couldn't get the fire to actually generate, despite messing around with all the settings, max graphics, etc. No luck. Logs were burning, but you couldn't see the fire. Quit the game and reopened, no luck. Came looking for something chill and ended up more frustrated after messing with it than before. You can't get the logs to rotate when placing, and can't rotate them once they're down without poking them (the grabber doesn't let you rotate, and the camera rotate doesn't make the log rotate with it), sometimes using the poker works, sometimes the log moves somewhere else you don't want it, most the time the log gets yeeted off into nothingness. Having actually built campfires, fireplace fires, etc irl, this didn't give me the same relaxed feeling I was hoping for in absence of doing those things irl. Got this out of a bundle, Never uninstalled something to quick and hid it on my steam library...
this is a perfect game to relax to in the background whilst you are sitting in your house. put it on my laptop and hooked it up to my tv and just sat back chilled to the great music. Absolutely love this game but i wish there was a 360 degree rotation around the fire. The tree level looks great but i think the other levels need more love. would be great to see this game with higher definition graphics
Super simplistic. Just make a fire and keep it. There are some nice backgrounds to choose from and overall it's pretty relaxing. Not recommended to people that actually want a game.
NOT REALLY RECOMMEND
I approached the game with a very open mind and simple mission: make a fire. Maybe I did something wrong, but I couldn't get the game mechanics to work properly at all. It was more frustrating than anything else. There is 100% some potential there. The backgrounds look visually appealing, but it isn't enough to salvage it as the game currently is.
