Incredibly boring. Edit: Figured I'd add a little more to this since there are basically no other reviews. PixelJunk Scrappers is a beat em up where the act of beating enemies up is just not satisfying. The animations and effects make attacks feel weak, and there's no depth at all. You can pick up new weapons, but these also feel weak and only have a few attacks. You could argue it's this way due to the garbage collection stuff that you also have to do, but that isn't very interesting either (especially if not playing co-op). Just stack items and throw, that's it. Can go for bigger stacks for more points, but that doesn't make for fun gameplay.
7,0/10 😓 Sad no one noticed the game in Steam - it`s unfair
Paradoxically, the Beat ’em up, which is diluted with garbage collection, and, thanks to this - not so boring, terrible as a beatemup, no dodge, no combos, only a strong blow after a series of 3 successful ordinary ones, there are also "sticks" with different characteristics of damage and speed, and the ability to quickly resurrect teammates, but when there are a lot of opponents, it's incredibly difficult to "endure" with a 1-button gameplay and slow characters, although there is also a firearm that can hook several opponents at once, it helps out a lot and balances melee well. Moreover, according to a similar scheme with "Pixeljunk Monsters", each island is closed from the player by a grindwall, you will definitely have to replay the same levels, trying to collect more garbage (up to 3 stars), and also complete 3 additional tasks, which in total give 1 additional star (Although it's cool that for each mission steam give an achievement). But thanks to this, you can learn all the mechanics that the developers have prepared for you at the level, just keep in mind that the game is stretched in this way for more than 10 hours. There is a little physics when you pick up a mountain of garbage and it starts to swing from gravity, but this is quite primitive, they could make something more about the weight in game, for example, at 1 level you have to stand on the button that opens the gate, the more weight you do it, the faster it will open, but on another level there are breakable slatted floors that break after a while after being stepped on it, no matter how many times and how to step - they will still fall by one timer, why didn't the developers make it weight dependent? Also, the price is killing the game, i should note that it actually already came out 3 years ago on Apple Arcade, this isn`t even a pure new game, as I thought at first, just an extended port for the PC. Nevertheless, if you are ready to put up with all the above disadvantages, I would still recommend that you try it, core mechanics of picking up mountains of garbage and throwing them into a moving garbage truck - quite sticky and never get bored, you always try to get as much garbage as possible into your stack, and it always falls apart on the second dozen items in the hands) By the way, I must say that there are initially 4 locations in the game, they all don`t differ much from each other (although the latter has an interesting puzzle mechanic), and when you think that it’s already over, you pass the boss, a secret 5th location pops up on the map, which pissed me off at first, but, all of a sudden - it's beautiful, a colorful bright location about a casino, it's easy to grind - it doesn't choke, an interesting boss in the final, at the end there are definitely the most worthwhile levels of the game. All in all, you can have fun with friends for a couple of hours (which you can invite for free through remote play), there are always not enough cooperative games, and farming trash is never get bored, such is our nature, peoples likes to grind some garbage) p.s. Eh, it's too sad for me that no one notices such games at all, so at least pay attention to this project, it's even more important than to my review.
Subscribe to my Curator`s page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/41977550

1人の場合でもS.C.R.A.P.
Follow my curator page for more reviews!
What could be a solid co-op Beat 'Em Up is made frustrating by baffling design choices that should've been obvious to the developers during development. Just play one of the many other great games in the genre like Castle Crashers, Scott Pilgrim, Charlie Murder, or Streets of Rage 4. PixelJunk Scrappers Deluxe is primarily a co-op game (but can be played solo), yet you can't access the map screen (stage select) in co-op. At all. Your only option after each level is to either go to the next one or exit to the main menu. Because of this you also can't visit the store while playing with friends. You have to exit, go into single-player, then you can visit the store and unlock new weapons or cosmetics. Your friends need to do the same because they can't access any of what the host has unlocked. Each stage has challenges to complete that are required to unlock further stages. If you don't have enough completed then you need to go back and replay a stage. However, since you can't visit the map screen in co-op and your only option is to keep going forward to the next stage after the previous, you have to keep exiting to the main menu and restarting the lobby just to select the specific stages you have unfinished challenges on. It is completely baffling that the devs didn't realize how poorly this is designed. Even more baffling is how basic the combat is when that's 90% of what you're doing in the game. You have one attack button that you can press up to 3 times for a quick combo. That's it. No other combos, no block button. It's very repetitive. You can pick up weapons in stages or bring one into the stage if you bought it at the store, but most of these behave the same way, unless they're long range weapons like shotguns which don't have any combos. Also you need to complete challenges to unlock the cosmetics and weapons in the store, but the game doesn't tell you which challenges unlock things, or what there even is to unlock. At first the store just looks empty, and hovering over each stage doesn't tell you what you can unlock by completing it. The remaining 10% of the gameplay involves collecting trash to put into your garbage truck to earn money, however it's just as frustrating as the combat for a few reasons: [olist][*]You can stack multiple pieces of trash, but that makes you walk extremely slowly, while the truck is usually moving forward, so you're usually out of range to throw it in. [*]When stacking trash the top pieces will very easily fall over, especially while moving. [*]There's no heads up when the truck is about to start driving again. The closest to this is a 5 second timer at the veru end of each stage, except right as the timer begins the truck leaves. You're given a 5 second timer but not given the 5 seconds to throw things in.[/olist] It's just such a frustrating game and most of it could've been easily solved if the devs playtested their game. Unfortunately the last update was one month after release 3 years ago, so there's no chance they'll patch any of this.
Highly recommended. very unique and creative design. I can see developers effort in balancing out singleplayer and multiplayer mode which is very nice. Benefit from singleplayer : Very easy to get 3 star in all stages compare to coop mode. I feel like I get better score in singleplayer mode by a lot. Plus everytime player try to throw a trashes stack in the trash car to get score/money combo. that trashes stack will try to calibrate its direction to get in the trash car if your throw miss the trash car by a little bit, resulting in less punishment game play. All boss fight and "no death" stage quest is easier in singleplayer too as boss has less hp and a chance of player die is lower (only 1 player). And there is a way too "heal" player in the stage but only heal 1 player who activate it. Disadventage of singleplayer : your coop friend will be replaced with da cute robot which cant help you fight enemies. it can only help you collected some trashes and sometimes try to throw them at you (sometimes it miss making all robot's trash stack loss) Benefit from Coop : Yay fren :D Imma telling you seeing your freind throwing a trashes stack of 20+ trashes to the trash car and miss is the most funny and devastating thing you will find in this game. you will may have that little heart attack everytimes you try to throw your trashes stack at your friend and hope they dont miss it. it will very satisfied if you can get all those 20+ trash combo in trash car in one shot (hardly happen in singleplayer since robot is dumb:P) making trash combo quest easier to make. A lot of quest is much easier to do in coop mode such as "do this X thing under X seconds", "collect all X things in this stage". Also every players can choose thier own starting weapon to help each other fight enemies! Disadventage from Coop : Score is harder to get in all stage make 3 stars per stage harder to get. And in coop mode, player need to aim trashes to trash car before throw them with "100%" accuracy since trashes wont magnet itself to the trash car like in singleplayer mode. Making "no hit from X enemy" quest is harder since there are more players. A lot of trick can also be performed easier in coop mode. For example, some zones in the stage wont "move forward" if all enemies havent been eliminated. so players kill all enemies except one and let one player juggling that enemy while other players collect all the trash in high combo way. another thing is some stages has unique puzzle you have to complete to move to the next zone and enemies will try to interrupt you a lot from doing that puzzle. your friend can help defense you from them so you can do those puzzles much quicker. Bosses : All bosses have their own gameplay mechanic in very interesting and creative way. most of them work around the "trash" idea. So player can just dps kill all boss and make all bosses kill bored. But at the same time all those mechanic gameplay arent too hard to do. The graphic and art style is very nice. A lot of different cultures and themes can be seen in the game. Music is good for its scrapper theme. it support remote play and controller perfectly for me and my brother. have a lot of fun. No regret at all 10/10:) Suggestion : there is an enemy with "stun" attack pattern (
red flying lantern
). If 2 of them attack a player at the perfect timing, it will perma stun that player and make them die with no way to fight back. any solution to duel with that would be nice.
Do anything else with your 25 Euros
Towards the end, bosses become uggy, you hit the boss and fall to your death even though you haven't pressed any buttons. None of us understood how to activate the shop. The story gets a bit boring after a while
PixelJunk™ Scrappers Deluxe is a colorful and chaotic action brawler developed and published by Q-Games Ltd. that fuses classic beat-’em-up combat with an unconventional garbage-collecting twist. Set in the vibrant dystopian world of Junktown, the game casts players as Scrappers—robot sanitation workers tasked with cleaning up the city’s endless piles of trash while fending off rival gangs who want the scrap for themselves. The result is a fast-paced, arcade-style experience that thrives on cooperative chaos, strategic stacking, and the simple satisfaction of hurling junk into a waiting compactor truck. At its core, the gameplay loop revolves around collecting garbage and depositing it into a moving trash truck before time runs out. Items scattered throughout each stage range from small debris to massive objects like appliances and machinery. The bigger the object—or the larger the stack of objects you carry—the higher the reward. However, larger stacks are slower to carry and easier to disrupt when enemies attack, creating a constant risk-versus-reward dynamic. Players must decide whether to play it safe with smaller loads or gamble on massive stacks for higher point payouts. This balance between mobility and greed gives the otherwise simple objective surprising strategic depth. Combat plays an equally important role. Scrappers can unleash melee combos, perform grapples, and eventually wield ranged weapons unlocked through progression. Fights are quick and punchy, encouraging players to clear space before resuming trash collection. Enemies range from standard robotic foes to more aggressive rival Scrapper crews, each capable of interrupting your collection rhythm. Defeated enemies can even be tossed into the compactor for bonus rewards, reinforcing the game’s playful and over-the-top tone. While the combat system is not deeply complex, it complements the collection mechanic effectively, breaking up the pacing and adding urgency to every encounter. Cooperative play is where PixelJunk™ Scrappers Deluxe truly shines. Supporting up to four players, the game becomes a coordinated dance of combat and cleanup when played with friends. One player can focus on crowd control while others stack trash, creating natural team roles that feel satisfying when executed smoothly. Communication and timing become crucial, especially when large stacks need protection while being hauled to the truck. The chaos of multiplayer often leads to frantic but humorous moments, making it well-suited for local or online co-op sessions. In contrast, solo play relies on AI companions that assist inconsistently, making the experience less dynamic and occasionally repetitive. Progression is tied to a robust unlock system. Completing missions earns currency that can be spent on unlocking new Scrapper characters, weapons, and an extensive array of cosmetic truck parts. Customization options allow players to personalize their compactor vehicle with over-the-top attachments and visual flair. While this system adds replay value, some players may find that unlocking certain stages or content requires grinding through optional objectives, slightly slowing the pacing of advancement. Visually, the game embraces a vibrant, hand-drawn aesthetic infused with cyberpunk and pop-art influences. Junktown is colorful despite its trash-filled theme, featuring neon accents, animated backdrops, and lively environmental details. Character designs are expressive and exaggerated, reinforcing the playful tone. The art direction gives the game a distinct personality that sets it apart from more realistic brawlers. The soundtrack complements the action with energetic tracks that keep momentum high during hectic collection sequences. However, the core gameplay loop does not evolve dramatically over time. While new stages introduce environmental variations and mini-games, the fundamental formula remains consistent throughout. For players seeking deep mechanical complexity or a heavily narrative-driven experience, the repetition may eventually become noticeable. The limited move set and straightforward mission structure mean that long-term engagement depends heavily on enjoyment of the co-op dynamic and score-chasing replayability. Ultimately, PixelJunk™ Scrappers Deluxe succeeds as a quirky and energetic arcade experience. Its combination of beat-’em-up combat and physics-based trash stacking creates a unique gameplay identity. While it may feel somewhat shallow in solo mode, its cooperative chaos and colorful presentation make it a standout choice for players looking for a lively multiplayer brawler with a humorous twist. For fans of party-style action games and unconventional mechanics, it delivers an entertaining and distinct entry in the PixelJunk series. Rating: 5/10
