Superb shooter, highly recommended.
The fluidity of PION's gameplay is truly what makes the game shine. Pair that with the great visuals, the game simply feels amazing to play. PION's roguelike traits allows you to tailor your playstyle in each of your playthroughs by providing you with a variety of upgrades and weapons which can form interesting interactions. In addition to that, it brings a great variety of enemies and bosses where certain combinations of these will turn out to be vicious. If not for the above, the difficulty is what makes you come back for more. You'll quickly realize that enemies will be rapid to take advantage of your inevitable mistakes as the tension arises, while delving deeper into enemy territory. Overconfidence is a swift and ruthless killer.
I like the game, but this is obviously a product of someone who doesn't have a huge pool of experience. The game is fun, weapons are awesome and the controls are sluggish but fitting. Once you play for a bit you understand why different turn speeds and such are important. Basically, the foundation and combat for the game is great. HOWEVER, and this is why I would NOT recommend the game as it is, it was not utilized well. First off, there is no tutorial. If anybody can tell me what the hell DATA is, feel free to inform. Upgrades seem to reset every level for some reason, and when you reach your third level, MASSIVE difficulty spike. Basically goes from a regular shooter with a few bosses per level to full boss rush within one level transition. Flashbangs, trap black holes, and tracker missiles (which have icons on them, implying you can either dodge or neutralize these missiles but you would be mistaken) are suddenly bombarding you constantly. Get to level three and if you're really unlucky, you'll have died before the screen finally faded off of white. Or you'll get trapped in three black holes and get blasted to hell with tracker missiles. The levels are also really constricted. May be by design but I personally don't like it. Overall, I think this game would benefit heavily from outsourced play testing BEFORE updates rolled out, even though I think this game is entirely finished and won't be updated further. Either way, as of now I think you have better options out there. Keep looking.
This is fun. The graphics are good and blowing things up is great.
PROS + Roguelike gameplay isn't too lopsided and makes for good replay + Gameplay is smooth + Soundtrack is... odd, but surprisingly fitting + Weapon variety is nice CONS - The difficulty can hockey stick at times - The controls are rough - One major game breaking bug This game was a rough start for me. I had a hard time getting used to the mouse rotation aiming combined with WASD for movement. I'm an avid gamer and it was just really rough to get used to. I figured maybe it was a game better suited for a controller, until I picked up the controller and realized the twin-stick style was even worse. Switching back to keyboard+mouse, it took some more time, but I finally got used to the controls. Once I got over that hurdle, the game was fun! The roguelike level picking method was nice to add replay to the game and I easily found myself spending hours going through over and over trying to increase my score on the leaderboard. The weapon variety was nice, though once I found my favorite primary and secondary, I did not care about any others. The soundtrack is... interesting. A mix between ambient techno with some faded repeated vocals here and there led to some amusing comments in chat while I was playing. I only had two issues with the game. One, the difficulty would suddenly ramp up fast going from level 2 to 3, and 3 to 4. Sometimes it was fine, sometimes it was OH GOD THERE ARE 50 SHIPS BLOCKING ME IN THIS CORNER HELP. The other was a bug in which I was trapped on a level because it didn't acknowledge that I had cleared the level, forcing me to restart. Overall, the game is good. I like it and recommend it, with the caveat that the controls take some getting used to. Give it a buy and a go!
Controls are sluggish and the game doesn't present any concrete goals, thus feeling pointless.
Really addictive game with extremely fast pace and a ton of action! Can't wait for this game to receive more updates and content! PS: I'm gonna get you OldPeople
nice game
One of my favorite games of all time. Easy to learn, hard to master. Fun, accessible top-down shooter with amazing replayability.
Not your usual rouge-like dungeon shooter! - Narrow passages with only small room to dodge bullets - Close distance fire fights John Wick would like - constantly spawning enemy ships (no waves) during the level can immediately change the situation and force you to make it quick and push through hordes of enemy ships. You cannot play it safe and clear room after room, you have to adapt to new situations. The hacked together menu, slowly viewable pilot and ship properties, odd pilot pictures and loading screen freezes let you immerse into the true one-dev gameplay-first indie gem feel. Don't be put off by such nitpicks, the gameplay is superb!
