Pretty good.
I haven't played for very long, but this is one of the most difficult games I've ever played. When I say difficult, I don't mean by orders of enemy strength or toughness, nor the encounters that contain spiders that flare my arachnophobia up like a beacon calling for aid. What I mean by difficult, is that when playing this game, I've just lost someone very close to me. Pillars is widely described as dealing with souls, memory, and loss. To have a game touch on something so deeply when you yourself are lost feels like... kinship, in a way? It's impactful, it takes what a conglomeration of friends and family say, and converts it to words on a screen, words that hit as hard as the real thing. Is it healthy to flood a grieving heart with more of the same? Unlikely. Does it help with trying to understand how fleeting life is? Absolutely. I think, ten years from now, when I've completed this game however many times, it'll be among my favorites. Not just for its contents, but for the time I played it in as well. Love your friends, love your family, because you'll never know when the winds see them slip away.

A great game for its time. Of all the Eora games, this first one actually has the most interesting story to tell and set an important stage for the rest. While the writing is not always spectacular I appreciate a coherent overarching plot more than good quips. The custom tabletop-esque system was also innovative in ways, most notably with all stats being relevant for (almost) all classes. I remember INT Barbarian being "meta" when the game first came out. I also like the per-encounter design evoking the best parts of DnD 4e. On the other hand, it suffers from the lack of diverse customization options (e.g. everyone gets mostly all the same very generic feats), and if you want to play with the in game companions for the story there are a lot of builds you simply won't even get to discover. The fact that you don't get core classes as companions like Rogue until some 20+ hours into the game is pretty crazy. Also the game is admittedly pretty hard even on normal difficulty and that probably turned some people off if they refuse to go down to lower "kiddie" difficulties. The game shows its low budget nature in many ways (graphics, sound design, unfinished and recycled levels, all those early backer NPCs), and also has very explicit homages to the earlier generation of CRPGs, most notably shadows of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 can be seen everywhere and can be almost off-putting. Back in the era when Obsidian alone was trying to revive the genre, these didn't feel like such big flaws. Lastly, a note on the recent turn based mode (still in public beta as of writing this review). It is definitely a more thoughtful implementation than the one in PoE2, and no longer rewards simply equipping the heaviest armor and highest damage weapon. However, as far as I can tell there are still balance issues, and really the game is not designed for TBM with its amount of "trash mob" encounters. Being able to switch modes in between fights with one click is nice, but it's still not as seamless as the implementation in Owlcat's Wrath of the Righteous. 8/10
The walking glitches are a little disturbing. But story and exploration wise the game offers a lot. Works nicely on linux machine
Amazing RPG, I'm now trying to "solo" a playthrough, its hard and I really enjoy the challenge
Lava 逼on seek!!!
This game is beyond incredible and everyone should play it. Pallegina is the only well written paladin party member ever, I love her.
