At a Glance Recommendation: Recommended with Caveats Best For: Players looking for a very short medieval fantasy visual novel with excellent artwork, playful interactive erotic scenes, and attractive male leads. Not For: Players seeking a substantial story, a satisfying romantic payoff, or an unapologetically gay fantasy from beginning to end. Playtime: Approximately 45-60 minutes for all endings and achievements. MLM Tags: MLM, M4M, Visual Novel, Medieval Fantasy, Sex-Forward, Mixed-Orientation, Jock 💬 Supportive Caveat Pillar of Knight is an impressive small-scale indie project, especially visually, but its recommendation comes with three important caveats: length, fantasy framing, and a brief non-consensual fantasy sequence. Seeing everything and unlocking all achievements took me only about 46 minutes, which makes the current asking price harder to justify unless you are primarily here for the artwork and interactive erotic scenes. The game also includes an early interactive puzzle built around a nude woman presented as an "inspirational poster." Because the scene invites both the player and the protagonists to engage with it appreciatively, particularly Riker, it introduces unnecessary ambiguity around the characters' sexuality. That does not erase the explicit M/M content, but it does make the fantasy feel closer to mixed-orientation than fully gay, which may disappoint players looking for an unapologetically gay escapist experience. Finally, the game includes a brief fantasy sexual-assault sequence involving a monster flower. It is not the main focus of the game, but players sensitive to non-consensual sexual content should know it is present. 🎮 Gameplay & Genre Pillar of Knight is a very short choice-driven visual novel with light interactive mini-games woven throughout the story. The mini-games are the standout mechanical feature, offering playful, sexually themed interactions that feel more engaging than simply clicking through dialogue. CGs and multiple achievements provide a small incentive to replay, but this remains a brief experience rather than a substantial visual novel. The interface is clean and easy to navigate, and the interactive CG sequences help distinguish the game from a standard click-through VN. 🔥 M/M Content The game centers on Santi, who accepts a quest from the confident and charismatic Riker. Both characters are attractive, muscular young men, with Santi leaning more toward the pretty-boy archetype while Riker has more of a rugged bad-boy energy. Their relationship is primarily sexual rather than romantic. While there is clear attraction between the two, the story ends before their connection develops into anything more substantial, leaving the encounter feeling more like a single adventure than the beginning of a romance. Aside from the caveat noted above, the game delivers several explicit M/M scenes featuring enthusiastic consent, attractive character designs, and interactive erotic mini-games that are genuinely fun to play. 🎨 Visuals & Style This is easily the game's strongest area. The painterly artwork is excellent, with dramatic lighting and expressive character designs that often reminded me of the visual style of Arcane. Character portraits are expressive, the CGs are attractive and surprisingly plentiful, and the overall presentation feels remarkably polished for such a small independent project. Even the explicit scenes remain tastefully illustrated rather than feeling like disconnected pieces of pornography. 🗣️ Tone & Writing The writing is straightforward and easy to follow, but the story is extremely brief. Rather than building meaningful emotional investment, it mainly serves as a framework for the erotic scenes and interactive moments. The ending also arrives quite abruptly. By the time the chemistry between Santi and Riker begins to settle in, the story is already over, leaving the relationship feeling unfinished. 👍 Best Thing The artwork is genuinely impressive, and the interactive erotic mini-games add a fun layer that helps the experience stand out from many short visual novels. 👎 Worst Thing The game feels too short for its asking price, and the mixed-orientation framing undermines what otherwise could have been a stronger gay male fantasy. ⭐ Final Verdict Despite its brief runtime, Pillar of Knight offers excellent artwork, attractive character designs, and enjoyable interactive erotic mini-games. However, the limited story, abrupt ending, and mixed-orientation framing of its protagonists keep it from fully delivering on the escapist gay fantasy many players will likely expect. If you're primarily here for beautiful artwork and a brief erotic adventure, it's an enjoyable experience. If you're hoping for a deeper romance or a more confidently gay fantasy, you may leave wanting considerably more. Update: Originally gave this a thumbs down because it had many issues including game breaking bugs, broken achievements and story continuation errors. The developer has since made multiple hotfixes to fix a DOZEN errors I once listed Baring the edit in mind, this game still might not be for everybody. The game is still VERY short with a steep price tag. The English translation is not the best as it's originally written in Thai. Despite being a short game, it does have it's positives such as having a unique art style you will not see elsewhere, the sprites are animated in a way that a lot of other similar VN don't do. Plus it even has a couple (nsfw) minigames that break up the chapter dialogue gameplay, which again similar VN don't do. I think it's unique and fun. I would definitely say the game is now worth trying if Male x Male is your style. The story plot premise is a basic one, you are a simple adventurer who accepts a quest inside an inn. There are endless possibilities for the story from this. I just wish there was more too it.
Overall Rating: ★★★☆☆ 6 out of 10
🏆 100% Achievement Completion: 40 Minutes

You can find more MLM content here ✨ Zakaries' Gay Conjuring

Premise This review reflects my personal experience with the game. While I aim to write thoughtfully and as fairly as possible, my reviews are subjective in nature and should not be used as objective metrics to assess/critique a game. Feel free to join if you would like to see more reviews! :) Gay Games Vault Worth Playing: ★★★★☆ Writing & Story — ★★★☆☆ I am writing this review in support of a solo developer. Some players might be put off by the playtime, which sits around an hour and a half, especially with the current price. That is fair. At the same time, I can see the amount of work that went into this, and I respect both the effort and the decision behind the pricing. That said, this is where the game needs the most attention. There are noticeable grammar and dialogue issues throughout. The story can be followed, but the writing holds it back. With time, this is something that can be improved, and it would make a significant difference. One of the inconsistencies I would like to point out to the developer is the main character, Santi, who moves through the story without much context. There is no background, no clear sense of who he is or why we should care about him. Because of that, it becomes difficult to connect with what is happening around him. Therefore, this ends up reading more like a comic than a visual novel. You move from scene to scene, but there is very little holding it together beyond the sequence of events. There are also moments where the writing creates confusion. In Chapter 1, Riker shows an image of a woman (previous girlfriend) as someone that makes him "happy". Later, he expresses interest in Santi, wanting to be intimate with him, and that shift is not followed by any context or explanation. Representation — ★★★☆☆ The M/M content is present and easy to access. You move through different scenes and interactions depending on your choices; there are only two characters, so there isn't a huge effort in creating variety. Some routes and outcomes are tied to specific actions, so there is a reason to go back and see what you missed (also because you need to clear a chapter 100% before moving to the next). What is missing is development. The interactions are there, but they do not build much beyond the moment itself. A bit more time spent on character dynamics would have made these routes more memorable. Gameplay — ★★★☆☆ Progression is tied to completing chapters fully. You are expected to reach 100% completion before moving forward, which means going back and replaying sections to unlock everything. That structure gives the game its replay value, but it also means you are repeating the same content to move on. The achievement system does not align well with this. There is an achievement for completing chapters at any percentage, and another for completing them at 100%. Since progression already requires full completion, the first one does not serve a purpose. It would have been more engaging to replace that with something tied to discovery. A hidden scene or a secret CG would give players a reason to explore rather than simply complete. Art & Direction — ★★★★☆ Character designs are clear, well-defined and unique (the art style seems to resemble pastel-like drawing); the CGs, instead, are tied directly to progression. You unlock them as you move through the game, which gives a sense of reward for completing each part. Do I recommend it? — ★★★★☆ Yes, but with clear expectations. This is a short experience, and the writing needs work. Those are the two main points that will stand out to most players in my opinion. At the same time, this is a solo project, and there is visible effort behind it. The game follows the structure of a visual novel, with added minigames to promote variety. The ideas are there, and with more time spent on writing and character development, this could reach a much larger audience. Tags: • Visual novel • Choices • Short • Explicit

I enjoyed the game. I’ve been following this developer’s work for a long time and was happy to see it on Steam. It’s a shame there wasn’t more gameplay. I’ve seen the development of the sequel and hope it’ll be available on Steam when it’s released.
Very nice art and animations. I wish it had more content though.
short but fun, and I love the art style! definitely worth the time
