Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 0.33/day in the week to Aug 5 → 3/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Review: Congrats, the town's one and only slumlord is you 🏗️

If you thought this was a chill stacking toy, congrats — what awaits you is [strike]gentle[/strike] explosions, leaky water tanks, and a full-on resident uprising.
One-liner: A-grade concept and art, but a rough launch — grab it on sale, hesitate at full price.

What even is this game
You build up, not out. On a tiny postage-stamp island you stack houses, factories, power plants and cafés into a vertical Kowloon Walled City. It's turn-based deck-building: draw cards by day, settle up at night. Residents need water, power, gas and fresh air — fail them and
they move to a better place (the afterlife)
.

The survival guide that'll save you tears
The #1 comment on both Heybox (小黑盒) and Steam is "wait, why am I dead?" — here's the cheat sheet, paid for in other players' tears.
① Keep the explosive stuff apart

[]Generator + gas tank/furnace = fireworks. Put them face-to-face and the whole block launches into orbit, hundreds of residents get a one-way ticket. []Risky buildings show a danger radius on hover — look before you slap.

② Water tanks leak downward

[]Water tanks leak straight down — stack one on a flimsy roof and it demolishes every floor beneath. Always seat tanks on a solid base. []Heavy on flimsy = collapse. Don't park a mansion on a matchstick.

③ Happiness is the real final boss

[]Keep residents miserable for ~5 turns and you trigger a social crisis: riot, then game over. []Mass death by explosion → economic crisis. Both scythes will cut you.
Parks are mandatory, but you can't build on top of them — leave headroom.

④ Deck discipline

[]You can't control the draw. Prioritize factories — they determine how many houses you can spawn. []Landfill (skip a turn) and locking useless cards are the comeback tools.

⑤ New in 1.0

[]Three archetypes: Utopia (happiness), Fearmongering (yes, demolish your own buildings to win via panic — officially encouraged evil), Fundamentals (baby boom = population). []Houses sandwiched between other buildings get bonus population — being flanked pays off.
New islands: on a whale's back, on unstable ruins, at extreme altitude.

The "ugh" list
Across the latest Heybox, Steam and Douban reviews, the complaints line up almost perfectly:
[]The tutorial can softlock: Heybox players report getting stuck, can't skip, drag does nothing — "I just quit." Dead before the game even starts. []Night is pitch black: Douban players call it "unfriendly to anyone with glasses" — you build blind. []Optimization is rough: your fans take off; it doubles as a space heater. []No undo: one wrong tap and you'll want to eat the mouse.
A bit samey: 50+ buildings, many just reskins with different numbers.

Verdict

[th]Aspect[/th][th]Score[/th]

Concept9 / 10

Art & Sound8.5 / 10

Depth7.5 / 10

Polish5 / 10

Overall7.5 / 10

Buy advice: [strike]Full price stings a bit[/strike] → wait for -40% / -50% (historic low ¥21) for maximum value. If you love the cozy Townscaper vibe but want a dash of strategy, buy it blind. If you want pure relaxation with zero fan noise, think twice. Final word: The concept is genius, the polish is, well, high-school level — literally, the devs are Turkish high-schoolers. Come back when it grows up a bit. 👀 https://store.steampowered.com/app/2094910/Pile_Up/

"Relaxing" is a Steam tag, not a claim the developers made. Their own description talks about fragility and destruction, and that version is the honest one. The stacking is a real idea. It's also the only one, and there isn't much character or staying power around it yet. Islanders did the neighbouring trick years ago with fewer buttons and more grace. First project by a very young team, and it ships with a clear idea inside it, which is more than most first projects manage. Bring on the second.
DISCLAIMER: got this with Humble Bundle. I like the concept and the artstyle, but the game itself is kinda terrible, and I'm sorry to say this because I wanted to like it. - tutorial is inconsistent and bugs easily - management system is kinda weird, I dont get it and the tutorial does a terrible job in explaining it - UI doesnt give relevant informations, but maybe this is a consequence of the game being kinda convoluted - this could have been a decent Steam Deck game but no controller support
I got this as part of the Humble Bundle. It's pretty jank and boring. The controls and camera angle are wonky. I feel like there must be another game in this genre that does it better.
Almost definitely AI slop. Tutorial doesn't even work. Lame cash grab. Good thing it was free. Still gonna uninstall it.
Game has been published almost a year ago, but still feels like it's in beta. Building descriptions are broken and wrong, it gives console errors for some buildings and the crisis counter still behaves erratically. I like the mechanic, but it's unfinished and has a lot of bugs still.
