I never played any version of the game, just watched the anime back in the day, so I know what to expect. The game starts and run fine in Linux (at least the beginning section, I haven't gone further) but my biggest complaint would be the complete lack of controller support, so playing on Steam Deck would probably be quite annoying (I'll update after testing). Anyway I bought the game day 1 to support the cause but the experience could still be a bit better: I hope things will improve with patches but wouldn't bet on it. EDIT: Steam Cloud is not supported either, which would be a relatively easy fix for the devs too.

Eins, Zwei, Drei hier kommt das Phantom! Finally available in English with a professional translation. Thought this would never come to the West but glad it did. Game runs great, highly recommended. Please support this official release so Nitroplus will bring over their other games to Steam.

I have purchased this game 4 times across different versions and platforms. This edition is a very abridged edit of the original, with new animation and voice acting finally available for English audiences. There is no 18+ patch as that content never existed in this specific abridged edition, There is still the implication of the act, instead of it being written out completely like other adaptations for other VN's have done. If you prefer a more verbose edition, there are fan translations and other editions of the original releases that include that content, but I would encourage you to play this edition first to see if you enjoy the story in a more condensed format before you go that far. For Linux support, running with proton GE compatibility mode has zero issues for this release, and is needed to enjoy the movies that are a part of the experience. This is one of my favorite VN's of all time. I strongly recommend this story, it has a mood of melancholy that is truly special. The themes of memory, identity, and surviving trauma carry this title. I do think the major weakness is the attempt at integrating real-world elements by an author who likely had only experienced these things through movies or reference articles, without any real-world experience. People who have any practical knowledge of cars, firearms, California traffic, or human anatomy, will need to turn their suspension of disbelief up to 11 for this one, If you can look past that, and focus on the core emotion, I think this story is still evergreen. The music that came out of the Phantom of Inferno project is some of my favorite, I recommend the soundtrack for the game, and the soundtracks from the associated anime that have come out over the years. If you are a fan of the OP/ED for this game, HASSY still performs and released a new album in 2024, and is active on youtube. I would love it if Nitro+ offered the soundtracks as a possibility for purchase as a DLC option here on steam. I hope that this release recruits many new fans of Phantom, and that more Nitro+ games come to the west. If you are reading this review, I hope you can enjoy this game, and can live a life full of joy and love, in spite of any hardships the world places on you.

这是我一生的挚爱 看到我的头像的话你就知道我的本命角色啦。 对我来说，Phantom不是视觉小说类型作品历史第一，但是我心中最佳，亦是我个人认为虚渊玄作品中最集大成的作品。 复杂的人物关系，痛苦、互相伤害又互相渴望的感情，以及一点恰到好处的作者恶趣味。Phantom就是这样的作品。 从2009年观看新版TV动画开始，我就深陷其中无法自拔，这些年来陆续购入了原版、Xbox版，然后就是补票了2026年的Steam版。非常感谢Nitro+给了我这样的玩家一个童年补票的机会，尤其是补上了官方中文。你们是最棒的。 然后就聊聊游戏体验吧。最让我惊讶的就是本作并非单纯的暴力移植。虽然画面分辨率依然是旧版水平，但是官方中文姑且算是可以更好的了解剧情内容，避免因为不同翻译用词不同造成的剧情误解。最大的惊喜应该是选枪界面，从旧版的列表改成了更具代入感的场景，我非常喜欢。 也希望有更多的玩家能看到本作，这部作品我真的非常希望有更多玩家了解，虚渊玄老师在游戏界的起点究竟是一部多么强大的作品，祝愿本作能够大卖。 以上，感谢所有Nitro+Origin的工作人员，以及所有热爱Phantom这部作品的玩家。Phantom 27周年快乐！
