This game is really special, and I regret not playing it until now. The soundtrack is one of the best I have ever listened to, which is good considering how often you are going to hear each track. It's also heavily jazz inspired, which you don't see too often in video games. The story is incredibly engrossing and takes around 100 hours to finish, not including side content. Technically, all story events are time gated, but the game allows you and heavily encourages you to take your time, so you never feel rushed at all. It's insane how many different characters get detailed attention as well. In addition to the 100 hour main story, your party members each have their own fleshed out side story, with a dozen or more side characters getting a full story as well. Every single one feels unique and grows on you in a different way throughout the game. On the gameplay side, your time is essentially split between RPG dungeon runs and social/school life. Each side feeds back into the other with various benefits, so you are incentivized to invest time into both sides to get maximum benefit. Admittedly, the combat mechanics are not the deepest I've seen, but the game just has so much damn style it makes up for it and more. Also, the persona fusion system is where you can really get into the weeds with customization as the possibilities are nearly endless. There is a learning curve, but once you catch on it's easy to get sucked in for hours at a time. I also waited to finish the sequel Persona 5 Strikers before writing this review, so I can say confidently say that despite them being different types of games, the two compliment each other seamlessly and feel like a continuous story when played back-to-back.

I bought this thinking I’d play it for a few hours 200+ hours later… yeah... This game somehow made me care about every single character, made me spend way too much time optimizing Personas, and had me saying, “I’ll save and get off after one more day.” for about 4 hours straight. The soundtrack never misses. The gameplay keeps getting better the more you play. The story had me hooked the entire time, and the ending left me with that post-game depression every great game gives you. It’s not a perfect game. Some sections drag a bit, and a few mechanics can get repetitive. But when a game keeps you glued to your screen for well over a hundred hours, it’s doing something right. Persona 5 Royal isn’t just one of the best JRPGs I’ve played. It’s one of the best games I’ve ever played. Thank you, Phantom Thieves. I’ll be a Phantom Thief forever🖤 10/10

This game became my favorite for all the good reasons. The music is insane, it's beautiful to look at, the story is very well written and the combat system is top notch (coming from someone who also loved Shin Megami Tensei V). I was actually sad to see the game end, after all these hours spent with these characters! Mara best guy btw

9/10 ABSOLUTE FOR REAL the best persona series of all time (imo)
