This game is a bit of a mixed bag, for me, but ultimately I'm going to give it a thumbs up because it IS fun. It is enjoyable and does some fun things so far, and I have not yet unlocked everything, but the way it plays it does feel like it wants you to lose a bunch before you start winning at all. In my three runs so far, I made it within the last 4 stages (of 20 per game), but just didn't have enough synergy on the board to make it all the way through. As I unlocked new Pegs and Stickers, they had stronger effects on the game - not necessarily different ways of thinking about how to play. The main gameplay loop is very much just Balatro with Peggle/Peglin elements. Part of what's fun about Peglin is that the ball interacts with the pegs in interesting ways - here, you design your own peg layout (ala Ballionaire) but your shots in this game feel very static. You can basically repeat the same pattern *every* shot with little to no variation. If you find the right way to bounce your ball, you keep your shot lined up the exact same way and essentially do the same shot 2-5 times to get the score you need to pass the level. It has that juice that makes pachinko-style games fun, and there's enough customization to keep playing, but I really think a second look at the underlying game mechanic may be warranted. Games like Balatro and Peglin are entertaining (and interest-retaining) because there is a lot of ways for things to "go different this time". I felt that is far less true of "Pegs X Stickers". It is still worth the price, and I wish the best for the dev. I'll still be playing it from time to time because I want to explore it more, but it's no replacement for Peglin.

More irritating than anything. Difficulty spike is absurd for the first level. Since it's cheap I won't refund and maybe with accumulated complaints this will be addressed.

good little balachinko.
I will preface this review by saying I got all achievements in my 9 hours of playtime (about 20 or so runs) which might bias my view of the game slightly. If you don't want to read the entire thing and are just looking to see if the game is good, I'll say the game is very much worth the 5$ and any Roguelike enjoyer would like it The premise of the game is really good. I was a bit skeptical at first since it looked just like a Balatro clone in a Pachinko machine, but after trying the demo out, it was clear it's only inspired. Ended up getting the full game a few days after release First impression was that the game is hard. I struggled to get anywhere in the demo but there was clear improvement which is what you'd expect/want from a Roguelike. After buying the full game, I ended up barely winning on my 3rd run and won a second time on my 4th run, this is where I started seeing issues with the balance of the game. I discovered what use obsidian pegs could have by my 5th run and paired with ghost pegs, there's pretty much no way to lose. Ghost pegs especially are completely broken, and it becomes a game of "can I get lucky enough to get ghost pegs early and break the game". Unlike Balatro, the game doesn't offer enough variety to go further in endless without ghost or obsidian pegs. Reaching Infinity is also too easy. I tried to show the game to my friend and I accidentally reached Infinity on round 18 lol. There is a good pegs variety, but most of them are useless to even get to the end of the game so buying them is a waste. You're not reaching 300 million with glass and negative pegs, and they're way too expensive to use early unless you have a specific stickers lineup. Instead of setting all that up you can just get a single supercharged ghost peg and clear most of the game I have nothing bad to say about stickers. There is a good selection, they all have a use case and I don't think I've thought once "why does this even exist". Maybe when/if the game gets more content that issue will arise, but at launch, I don't have issues with them. Some are stronger than others but it's what you should expect from a Roguelike. I wish Legendaries were slightly rarer tho, they don't feel THAT special for game breaking stickers The variety of boards is nice to see, but I don't feel like it changes the gameplay enough. The strategies remain the exact same. The one board that significantly changes the gameplay is the broken board which forces you to adapt your shots every round since it moves around slightly. I wish more boards were split apart (like literally, having a board with nothing in the middle and just a few rows on each side would be cool) in some ways to force the player to adapt and change their strategy Charms do what you expect which is just a slight buff to your run. Like modifiers (which I will talk about after), they are pretty hit or miss. I ended up using Blood Moon for most of my runs since the game doesn't require you to beat every board with every charm as an achievement. I feel like Lucky Sevens and Golf Club are pretty eh. Lucky pegs just aren't worth it and an extra ball isn't that much of a buff when the game is so easy to break (maybe the extra money is good? idk). I do like the idea behind the Stopwatch, very unique. Modifiers are, as mentioned, also hit or miss. No rebuild is not too hard but forces you to plan ahead and the one that never refresh the price of shop rerolls is also a big deal. No eyes tho? I still have absolutely no idea what it does genuinely. I thought it would hide your line of sight, or even hide pegs on the board or something but really I don't know what it does. The other 2 (target score up 50% and -1 ball) are ok, fair modifiers Overall the game is fun and for 5$, it will scratch an itch for any Roguelike fan for a few days. The lack of replayability is pretty unfortunate for a Roguelike, there's no real incentive to play once you got all achievements (which again, I was able to do in less than 10 hours) since there's not enough variety in builds. I will for sure pick the game back up if there's more content added, or if a community is built around mods and stuff like that, there is A LOT of potential PS: if you click one of your stickers while the ball is going, it completely resets your score which can both suck if done accidentally and break the game if you have a money making machine. You can just reset your score 4 times and get 4 times the money assuming you one shot the round
Pretty much everyone else has already said it, but this is basically the love child of Peglin and Balatro, and I'm here for it. It's definitely easier than both of them, which isn't necessarily a bad thing for a roguelike noob like me. I wasn't convinced there was much depth to the mechanics at first, but when you win your first game, you unlock several new peg types all at once that create a bunch of new synergies and really reward you for sticking with it through the losses.
I played the demo for this quite a bit before it was on Steam. I struggled a lot at the start, it took me hours before I could complete my first game. There was a lot I had to learn. I enjoyed the struggle, and the art style and presentation are beautiful. Now that it is on Steam and I have purchased it, I am very happy to give it a positive review. It has much more content. I am a happy person. The art is beautiful. The sounds are too. The gameplay is something I want to keep coming back to. It is worth the price.
play game if you like pegging
I could immediately tell this was based off the Balatro formula, with points and multipliers, so that in itself immediately made me decide to dive in. Actually a very nice time killer of a game, I genuinely love the aspect of being able to place pegs down where I please, so I can try to get myself as many points & multipliers as I can, that's something I really appreciate. Very fun, especially considering the cheap price as well, steal of a deal for me.
I absolutely loved the demo and the full game seems to have a lot more strategies you can try out. 100% recommend if you're looking for a solid roguelite.
