About
Your path will lead you to the Worldwound, where the opening of a rift to the Abyss has unleashed all-consuming terror across the land. For over a century, the neighboring nations have fought fearlessly, trying to drive the enemy back — but to little avail.
Now, you have the chance to put an end to this conflict, but the path to salvation is far from clear-cut. Will you become a shining angel, backed by noble paladins? Or a powerful necromancer with hordes of immortal undead in your thrall? Or something else entirely? Lead your army and challenge mighty demon lords. Your crusade will set in motion a chain of events that will leave you — and the world itself — forever changed.
Create any character imaginable with the flexibility, richness, and depth of the Pathfinder First Edition ruleset. Choose from 25 classes, 12 character races, and more than a thousand spells, feats, and abilities to suit your personal playstyle.
Your decisions have more weight than ever before. Your goal is clear, but you must forge your own path to it. Who will die, and who will live? Who will stay, and who will go? Make your choices, and watch the world around you change.
Enjoy two combat modes as you slay your enemies – real-time with pause or turn-based. Switch between them on the fly, so you can always take things as slowly — or as quickly — as you like. The unique Pathfinder ruleset also allows you to perform advanced combat maneuvers, like mounted combat. Use them wisely!
A cast of more than 10 unique companions is ready to join your cause. Earn their trust and respect, and they will have your back no matter what dangers lie ahead. And if you get on their bad side, well… Maybe it’s time to part ways.
You will need much more than a party of adventurers to cleanse the land of its demonic scourge. Take command of the crusaders and lead them to victory – both as a strategist, controlling the battle from above, and as a field commander, in a new tactical combat mode.
Explore nine unique Mythic Paths: obtain extraordinary abilities and shape everything that comes next. Your decisions might transform you into a celestial Angel, a raging Demon, a powerful Lich, a cunning Trickster, an otherworldly Aeon, a rebellious Azata, a wise Gold Dragon, an insatiable Swarm That Walks — or remain mortal and walk the arduous fantasy path toward becoming a living Legend.

Game has been out for almost half a decade, but the developers apparently can't or won't fix bugs preventing core features of some classes from functioning as intended. Magus is basically unplayable as a result of Spell Combat being turned into a toggle that A: doesn't let you attack before you cast your spell (like a Magus explicitly can on paper), and B: arbitrarily refuses to function even if you cast the spell first. This took like ten minutes of actual gameplay to discover, and I am not looking forward to experimenting with all the other class options in the game in order to find one that will actually function as expected. The UI is also poorly designed for turn-based combat, and at first glance seems to be fairly obviously intended to be friendly to RTP gameplay, with turn-based mode being stapled on as an afterthought. Despite technically having a turn-based mode, the game seems to be designed to emulate the feel of Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 much more heavily than the actual Pathfinder TTRPG.
Added a dumb launcher to their games. Even though they said you could disable it, it still runs in the back ground.
I really enjoyed the gameplay aspects of Pathfinder: WotR. I'm a big fan of the tactical RPG style of gameplay. I got some very heavy BG3 vibes from this game, which was pretty nice.Where this game really lost me was the characters, world-building, and dialogue. Seelah, one of the first people you meet, already rubbed me the wrong way. Her constant "quips" felt like they were cut and pasted from a Marvel movie. Lann, another early companion, was rattling off millennial-style, self-deprecating jokes. Finally, the part that rubbed me the wrong way was the forced DEI. I won't go into the nitty-gritty, but this ♥♥♥♥ was obviously shoehorned into the game. This does nothing to add to the experience of what could be a really fun game and an epic world to explore. It just comes off as tonally jarring and something that I can't or won't invest tens of hours into.I WANTED to like this game. I am a big fan of fantasy worlds, long RPGs, and fun combat. However, when real-world identity politics, poor jokes, and modern styles of writing are incorporated, the experience is negatively impacted. I got this game damn near free, so I can't complain that I didn't get my money out of it after three hours, but I don't think it will be worth my time.
This isn't even the first time owlcat has been caught trying to do genuinely dubious things to their own fans and I really don't know what else to say except please ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ stop forcing slop on the people who love your games jesus christ.
The game is great for the first 18ish hours, at which point the load times, the bugs, and the pointless nonsense starts to stack up. Here are my complaints so far: 1. Time is meaningless. You can rest for 16 hours in the middle of a battlefield and the entire world will pause to let you rest up. While there is a consequence for resting too often away from camp, the game doesn't justify the use of a time mechanic at all. 2. The crusades are a complete waste of time. First off, the enemy armies are completely unbalanced. You can take a level 1 army and kill a level 3 demon army somehow, but cannot defeat a level 2 demon army. Secondly, the amount of time you have to wait to just hire new soldiers is ridiculous and impacts the morale of your troops too negatively. I eventually just turned it off. 3. Half the characters you encounter in Act 1 aren't completely voiced. You can occasionally hear their voices if you're resting in the middle of an area outside of camp, but I expected them all to be fully voiced. 4. The ranged combat is functionally worthless even if you are an archer class. You basically have to get 3 feats just to be able to hit something, and it takes 6-8 levels to get there but you still won't do enough damage. The penalties are applied even at 30ft away from a target, and if you are outside of that range you still cannot hit anything. Yet, you can be a mage and be able to beat up people face-to-face and still deal more damage with your fists than a monk zen archer can with either a bow and arrow or their fists. 5. Bugs. Not enemy encounters, but software bugs. There are just too many and not a single one is being patched. 6. Azanti Save Option is a prime example of text saying one thing and is either missing an important sentence or is misleading. Azanti says you only use one save file. It does not tell you that the save is deleted if your entire party dies. It functions as a hardcore save mode but a new player could be easily confused and lose 21 hours of gameplay because it didn't warn them what would happen if they died. This is not the only settings of the game which doesn't properly explain what it does or does more than what it says. 7. Turn-based combat is affected by your settings when you start but the story doesn't tell you what affects it. My first playthrough had characters only able to move or attack until they reached higher levels. This might be a bug, but it makes turn-based combat functionally useless because your characters can do more damage just letting the AI handle it. In that sense... 8. This game only functions flawlessly if you turn on all the automation. This implies a priority was put on the story, but the story itself is lackluster. In fact, it is quite linear. 9. Skill checks really only matter in conversations. If you fail a skill check outside of a conversation, such as failing to open a chest, your game will automatically spend 10 in-universe minutes unlocking it for you. Only when you use an apprentice lockpick can you suddenly never open a door or chest again. I'm told you can break a chest open but lose some loot, which makes no sense because you are not destroying the chest you're only breaking a lock. 10. There aren't enough Portraits. Even NWN came out with nearly 50 unique portraits that weren't used by NPCs. All the portraits available in Pathfinder are of characters in the game, either as NPCs you meet or as generals in the crusades. Yet there are not enough portraits for all characters and NPCS. The Silver Dragon is one example of a character that needed a portrait because it gives away the fact that portraitless characters are unimportant and will die soon. 11. Every load screen takes one minute minimum. Call it poor optimization or lack of imagination, but the development team went out of their way to make entering and leaving a house waste minutes of your time. Since you basically move around on a giant map for most of the game, you can find yourself entering many house-sized random encounter areas traveling between story locations which can sometimes have zero enemies to actually fight. My favorite parts of the game: 1. There are about 7+ ways to become a dragon in this game. It's actually the only reason I bought it. 2. Character class customization is on par with the actual Pathfinder TTRPG game even if the descriptions need work. 3. It reminds me of better video games based on TTRPGs.
No time to play this, but I never liked launchers. So here's my review! No one likes launchers so stop with the bs to force adds and possible data collection.
Too much of this game feels deliberatly designed to waste your time
UPDATE TO UPDATE: Do not buy from OwlCat. APR15 Update Response: There is an entire gaming category for people who want to simulate relationships/pursue "romance", which is usually indicated by a sexual act. NO ONE plays a CRPG to romance. You guys are lying to yourself and the community. If a player's priority, in a situation where your world is ending from a demon invasion, is to romance other characters in the world, that person's priorities do not align with the game you've created. Period. You're now trying to cater your game to people who are playing it for purposes other than why you created the game. And this makes sense to you? Then you pretend like writing romance is hard, probably because most of your devs have little experience with it. This is embarrassing for everyone involved. "we don't understand how relationships work" would've been a better PSA. "Hey guys, we're pretty anti-social here. Sorry if we don't have more complex relationship options while you're becoming a god trying to save the world." That's what it should have said. Then go back to fixing the actual game. You just patched Rogue Trader's basic game failures AFTER you spent all this time lying to everyone so you dont have to take responsibility for what you suck at. This NIki Aborti person needs to be laid off. This is complaining to her community because she can't do what every single player who plays the game does. Literally the tabletop is a game for players to create relationships with one another. Maybe she should play the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ game. Review: The game crashes constantly, including when opening. It often simply stop responding. Probably 50 times per hour. Every Owlcat game pretends it supoorts controller and then while using controller it simply stops working for minutes on end for no reason. The controller is working in every other app but Owlcat apps. It's really hard to express all the aspects of this game that were poorly made. A simple example is the world map. You can go to select a location on the world map. If you haven't visited it yet and it's far enough away, you won't be able to zoom out to see the path to get there. The to pan the camera to view the path (thus what you might encounter on the way) you have to move off the location and then the path disappears. If you open the more zoomed out map of the entire city, this map doesnt show your path. So, there is no function in the game for controller players to see where they are going, unless they go short location to short location. Idk no one in the studio never saw this. Never had this problem. No one else tried to go to the mansion right away like you were told to to get 1000 gold early game? You didn't plan for ANYONE to do that? That's just one example. That's an easy fix. They clearly were making this game and got the Rogue Trader offer and now both games are worse than they should be. Why is it either or? Why is it KB&M OR controlller? If i could use my mouse to overcome your lack of controller programming I could solve many of my issues on my own, but no. You made that impossible. So you failed to program the game for the tool you claim I can use to access it then you made it so I couldn't, on my end, find a hybrid solution to the problems you left in your game. Terrible decisions left and right. I made it to level 3 before my first prologue Boss fight. The boss has 20+ feats. Feats. Like what? That's contradictory to the most basic parts of the game. So the enemies dont have to follow progression at all? You made characters who break the character progression as the first boss? Like what? I held her and killed her without her doing ♥♥♥♥, but still. Like what? How does that make any sense at all? Why is there dice rolling for a potion? So when you make a potion you need to dice roll for the quality, to ensure the potion is made. Then when you drink the potion you need to roll again...to see how effective it is? So there are situations where you might need to drink 4-5 potions in a row to gain the same amount of health that 2 potions might otherwise provide. Why? How does this make any sense? It's incongruent with any aspect of the game. "because it's in pathfinder tabletop". Please. Like that determined anything else. Like we dont see how you update the games showing that "because its in the tabletop" was not enough of a reason to add it to the game. Why would I, as a person, get less health from a potion I made, if I made both potions successfully? .... ? Then you can drink 2 potions in combat. It''s gauranteed that they won't provde equal amounts of health. What kind of world is this where people, half of them combat trained, go into battle constantly having no idea how effective their healing measures are? That's beyond stupid. What does this mechanic add to the game? It just forced you to give me 56 light health potions in the prologue. Why? So I can sit there and watch them not work? Just give me a potion that works, give us less of them. There is no anticipation or fun involved in these dice rolls. It's not a risk/reward system. It simply randomly works as intended or fails to. That's how the player's perceive it. You incorporated a system into the game, that you didn't need to, is not essential for the game to function, just to include it because the other version of the game, where you're not going around picking up "loot" has it. Why? To me this shows a clear lack of understanding about gaming. The studio and its devs don't understand "fun". They don't get, at the most basic levels, why doing something in a game is enjoyable, rewarding or worth doing. There is nothing about the dice roll pottion system that improves the game or the experience. Why do I have to go to the inventory and add the potion to my "belt" which doesn't exist, then go back to my hotbar and select "useable items" then add that item to the hotbar, then use it via the hotbar only for that item to now occupy the hotbar but never exist again? So the next potion doesn't go occupy that spot (despite you having 56 of them). Why have the item remain as non-existent on the hotbar? Why can't I go into the shared stash and just use the potion? Why do you guys do stuff like this? There's no benefit to making me do all this extra ♥♥♥♥ for something that doesnt make sense anyways. The character is drinking a potion for a "shared stash" that no one carries. The item never occupies any particular inventory. So its in the communal ether to start, its in the cloud. YOu then have to donwload it from the cloud to your specific character for that character to use it, but only in combat? Just limit the uses to the same number and keep the "use" option in the inventory. Such simple decisions like this really blow my mind. HAve these guys play BG3, please. OR ANY LARIAN game Just think about this. You're going into battle against demons with a cleric and you KNOW ahead of time that the cleric's spells sometimes barely work, and it's random. Meanwhile you know this guy can't really fight either. Imagine it's a warrior instead but they can only swing 4 times a day. And you know they miss randomly. You gonna bring that guy? No. Neither of them come with you. They're both ♥♥♥♥. So you made healers in this game the equivalent of a martial character who has limited strikes per day, just because you had to incorporate a dice roll rather than having the character learn how to do the thing the game claims they learned how to do. What's the lore explanation for why cleric sometimes get 1 point of healing and sometimes 8? Their relationship to their god faultered in that moment? It's "game" mechanic not a narrative one, and it does nothing AND destroys the narrative as well. It's not lost on me how lazy you were with your accessibility features. If there weren't laws you'd have skipped that for sure. Keep this in mind audience. It's not the only thing they did only to satisfy a check box.
