june 2023 edit: undo got patched in after all, now the game is easily recommendable. path to gaea is a fantasy hitman go-like with a fox protagonist and a wisp companion. and unskippable dialog with a slight text display sound. can't do anything to make sentences appear instantly or make them go away, but they're relatively fast and movement is possible at the same time. a mixture of tutorializing and lore, and the only cutscene is skippable and doesn't play on retries. 25 levels unlocked one by one, level number in the pause menu. turn-based movement to avoid spikes and enemies, pull switches and move columns. killing has to be done from the side or behind, typical sly fox shenanigans, unless you pick up a power orb that lets the wisp kill enemies from a distance. sweet. only works in a straight line though and has limited range. the game allows you to move over hazards, only blocked nodes are invalid moves, so be careful. no move limit or counter, explore and experiment to your heart's content. undo got patched in, works after dying too, and there are checkpoints here and there. there's a brief saving icon in the corner when one happens, usually indicated by falling boulders to cut off the way back, but not every level has one (and none has more than one) and some take longer and/or more tries than others. however, checkpoint progress gets saved when you quit, that's something. there are collectible crystals for more skins, but they're done in lazy lara croft go-style, just click them on the side, no extra puzzling to do, like bonus objectives in the superior hitman go. the bottom left shows how many of how many you found on the current stage, level select also has that info. finding one and dying still keeps it. non-rebindable controls work well enough and are shown in the help section. arrows and mouse move, esc for menu, 'r' restarts from the checkpoint or the beginning of the level. gamepad is supported and can choose between 'click' or 'swipe' mouse controls. I found clicking better but still tiresome, ymmv. keyboard is fine if you get used to what's up and what's left, as usual. full keyboard control was made possible eventually, wasd moves obstacles and handles the charged wisp and 'e' activates levers. 'q' or the right mouse button turns on undo, you'll notice the change of colors and can remedy your mistake. animations are nice but slow, which can supposedly be helped by holding movement keys to move more, but again, without undo it's not a good idea and it doesn't do much if anything anyway. a faster movement toggle was patched in, does the same automatically, except it's actually noticable. the fox wasn't affected at first, only enemies, so it was only a partial solution while I was playing, but it's fine now. no camera controls wouldn't be a bad thing, less mandatory fiddling, especially with trees becoming see-through if you're under them, but levels don't fit the screen and it's impossible to plan and think ahead on bigger ones. I'd rather have enough info to come up with a solution than a close-up of a tree, but it is what it is. some sort of camera control, zoom or different camera placement in certain cases would still be nice though, to have a better look at the immediate surroundings at least. messing with columns while spiders are after you is bad enough, realizing you shouldn't have used that orb on that enemy because there's another one off-screen, right at the end is much worse. really handsome game, nice piano music in the menu, less memorable but atmospheric tunes elsewhere, and you can click some stuff (well, birds and fish) to interact with them. settings are fine. a few resolutions with a windowed mode toggle and eventually separate volume sliders got patched in. there are some languages and graphics options too (shadows, anti-aliasing, hbao, whatever that is) and all this is accessible while playing. pretty good overall, a short foxy adventure (probably doable in 2-3 hours), and with undo patched in, it's an easy recommendation. full price is still too much but sales are a thing and it works on win7 and a potato without issues. the developer is dedicated, fixed a bunch of stuff fast and even managed undo after ruling it out initially (not on principle, luckily, and I'm glad it was possible in the end).
FoxMania: The Quest To Review All Fox Games On Steam!
Conditions for inclusion:

-The player character must be consistently a fox; the fox must not be merely a skin or a character optiond
-Must have 100% working Steam achievements
-Must not be a visual novel
Game #28: Path to Gaea This is a short, yet excruciatingly slow, turn-based puzzle game. There are 25 levels. It took about 2.5 hours to beat the game, and about 4 to achievement hunt it. Puzzle design is OK, with a few good moments. The puzzles are based on parity. You can walk between squares on a 2D board. Every time you move, enemies also move. You can kill enemies by moving onto them from the side, but some enemies are invincible because they share the same parity as you, meaning they'll always be on the wrong square and you will never be able to catch them. So you'll have to figure out how to avoid them, or kill them with a projectile attack. Early levels have spikes which rise and retract on some spaces every time you move, but in an unintutive pattern that you'll have to follow closely to avoid getting impaled. Later levels have some new enemies with more complex behaviors, and some objects you can interact with. If you're going for 100% completion, the game has some "hidden object" elements to watch out for, which I found to be a nice addition. The game is decently pretty, which I feel is the main appeal. This feels like a newcomer's first Unity project, using store-bought assets and all, except they've taken the time to actually polish the game to make it look and feel nice. I can really appreciate that. I also feel like this might have been conceived as a touchscreen-based mobile game to begin with, but it's a decently pleasant one. Too bad the game is just so slow-paced. Most of the game is spent watching the fox slowly trot from one square to another. It made the game so unpleasant to play. If the game had about twice as many levels, but moved about twice as fast, I think I would have been very happy with it. 4 / 10. I'd give this a neutral vote if Steam had one.
A good small grid-based puzzle game (like SquEnix GO games). Among other things, it looks very good. For this type of game it's very aesthetically pleasing and has this nice fairytale-ish feel.
Fun game, even for someone that doesn't usually play puzzle games, but oo collectable items. If you don't pay attention you can mess up an entire level which is frustrating but fun to figure out....eventually c.c. I haven't finished just yet so i will do an edit if i think of/find anything more. I did find a bug on Lvl 18. The game seemed to count both myself and the very first spider you interact with as being dead and got locked in place. I did try to recreate it but with no luck. I wish the game would be pushed more. Going to streamers that like to check out indie stuff is a great option. Pirate Software being a prime example. I hope that the dev/s keep making more games. Just going off of this game alone, you can create some cool stuff, so keep at it :)
Nice puzzle game! I definitely recommend
I't a good puzzle game. Reminds me of Lara/Hitman Go games. Just wish there was an option to speed up each turn. Edit: already has that option.
Fun puzzle game with a fox. 10/10. 🦊
