Its like playing some unreleased David Lynch film (RIP). Surreal, dream-like, a world that is scary, odd and mysterious, people with jumbled speech and faces, long unprovoked driving scenes, a non-linear plot that is paced yet provoking. I love it, just wished there was more.
Plays like on acid. Actually not that great. It's a bit surreal and weird, you expecting to get into some consensus but there's none. Cuts in unexpected moments, make experience more disturbing and unpredictable. Gameplay consist mostly of dialogs with some minor choices, I don't think they change the ending though. Sadly it lack some more depth I think. Overall watch it if you have spare time or not, you will not miss much this time.
I've played through this game quite a few times just scouring the environments looking for extras and it's such a disappointment. There's literally nothing. If the environments were interesting or interactive, or actually scary, or had some unnerving elements it would be a different story entirely (look at games like Pools, also a walking sim). The story is extremely vague and disjointed, the cuts are extremely abrupt, the driving sequences are some of the most boring gameplay imaginable, the dialog is needlessly garbled, and there's no explanation for anything. It would have been tolerable at the very least if the game was unnerving or had some kind of coherent story to follow without having to sit there and speculate on the most scant details, or if there were some in-game files to find for some lore that made you actually care about the characters in the world of the game, but there's nothing. You play as nameless, faceless characters that only need to go forward. The dialog is entirely pointless (enter gas station guy), and most of the game is just spent holding 'W' and remembering to click 'Shift' so you can sprint. There's no purpose for the crouch function, and you even get a revolver in the forest for one of the sequences for absolutely no reason. Nothing fits, and none of the stuff that's in the game needs to be there. It's a complete waste of time that'll leave you with loads of questions - particularly 'why did the dev bothing making a game out of this?' - and no really compulsion to go find answers because nothing in the game is interesting enough to really care about seeking out more information about. Do yourself a favor and just look up a video or forum post where someone explains what's going on, because you'll save yourself loads of time.
While I appreciate the effort anyone takes into creating and publishing a game, this is... something. It's atmospheric and strange, but it's really just walking, waiting, walking some more, waiting some more, over. Very short, and not as clever as it wants to be or as you would hope it could be... but maybe that's on me.
This was too expensive for the content and it wasn't very expensive.
Short, low-effort slop with no artistic merit. Got it in a bundle, beat it in well under an hour, everyone thought it was super lame. Devs are terrible people, too.
Very David Lynch like I enjoyed this game even if I didn't quite understand what was going on
weird and worthwhile little vignette. 10/10 gun scene- amazing weight and impact behind the one shot; the revolver moment was the game's peak for me, with the rest being interesting atmospheric vibes. paratopic leaves you with a curious weird feeling without asking much in return. it's an uncanny fever dream, close your eyes and take the ride.
Nothing about this game is interesting or worth the ridiculous amonts of time it forces you to spend waiting and doing nothing.
