I don't have a ton of hours logged for the game but I think I've played enough to write a decent review. I really enjoy this game. Obviously there are aspects to the game that need some work, but that's to be expected with a game that's early access. I think as the game continues to grow that it will just keep getting better and better. One thing that I absolutely love is how customizable everything is, from your character down to the size of your home furnishings and decor. I do, however, think that build mode and game play could be a lot better. This is coming from someone who has logged over 10,000 hours on the sims though and the sims team has lots of people working on it. Again, I think that as Paralives progresses that things will continue to get better. Overall, I have had such a good time playing this game, learning about the functions of the game, and playing my Para's. Such a fun game!
Even though the game is an early release and has quite a lot of bugs and issues im still amased by it. The way the chatting is done, the nightly buffs and stories and the building possibilities make me want to follow the development of this game in person
I am a very honest person when it comes to games. So it's obviously like the Sims. But being in early access it has bugs obviously. There's some clear visual errors, but nothing to prevent you from playing. For instance I had bought a home with a basement and I could see my "Parafolk" upstairs washing a dish but just the floating plate and sponge, also my bed when I wake up in the morning, for some reason the bed was in the basement which was kind of a flex idk I liked it lol but my bed sheet was stretched from the basement to the first floor of the house to the ceiling. Again early access so it'll have issues but I didn't bother me much, just more of "well that's strange." I really enjoy that it gives you these newspaper articles everyday that update and tell you what's going on that day around town, freebees, and hiring bonuses for certain jobs in the paper that day and cute stories that happen around town, yoga classes etc, which I thought was an awesome touch. They also added similar things like Animal crossing, there is a community center and a museum that you can donate to. You can donate things you find around the town to the museum and for the community center you can donate things that you can make like art, food, and other items you can purchase etc. As for the relationships with Parafolk, still needs a lot of updating but what they have has a lot of potential as they work on the game. I can say I love how it seems a lot harder to befriend and develop relationships with people as I feel the Sims made it very easy to develop relationships. I made one base character just to try the game out and it has taken me almost my entire "young adult" life to be able to have a romantic relationship with someone to even date them. In order to do anything "flirty" it tells you the chances it has to become successful and rolls a wheel and if you land in the green you're able to "flirt" if you land in the black it decreases your relationship level. I love this feature as it makes it a real challenge. They started with a decent amount of job opportunities as well and the job progression is pretty involved. It also allows you to add 3 perks to your job for more benefits after you leave work each day you can chose one and swap them out when you get better perks or you get better in your job field and then later on apply for a better position in your field once you meet job requirements. The building is super cool. They don't have a ton of options yet just because it is new but they have more than enough variety for your to create your own nice space. Also, every day after you sleep gives you daily options in perks or things like "work bonus" which gives you 2k in money straight to your account also things like relationship boosting, daily boosters and things that will remove money off of your monthly rent and utility expenses. The town in pretty big, it has some visual bugs but that will get patched and fixed eventually. They have a lot of potential with this game and I think it will get better over time but it is worth playing and since they have promised all DLC and stuff will be free to anyone who bought the game in early access I say it is 100% worth the value. I would right now as an early access game give it a solid 8.5 with the current bugs and graphic errors, which again no big deal and also room for them to add more to the game over time is why I rate it that. It's an awesome game and I am looking forward to seeing what else they add to it. It's worth playing. I played it for over 6hrs yesterday. These were the features I liked the most and I haven't even explored the entire town yet or what it fully offers. It's very good and it's a very cozy game which is always nice. Character creation is also very involved but I feel they have very limited clothing but AGAIN not so limited that it isn't enough to get you started especially since you can change the color patterns etc... You can also add tattoos and resize but, limited but enough and you can actually drag them where you want! I can definitely say for it being an 8.5 early access they did a lot better than inZoi which I bought previously and that it felt "empty" lots of open space and not enough to do and MAJOR graphic issues. I would give inZoi a 5 when it was released I was very disappointed. So much I still have not gone back after over a year of updates. But so far I am loving Paralives. I also like that I can turn off the volume and put it into a window screen and minimizing and pause it when I work. I also feel that no one should "strive" to be the Sims. The Sims is it's own game, and in reality before they messed up and created micro transactions and inflated the price of their DLC's and removed a lot of features from the base games unless you purchased it was a massive disappointment. Paralives is it's own cozy simulator, with it's own unique features and I am a huge fan of the art style. I am looking forward to what they do with this game in the days to come!
In the beginning I had severe trouble playing this game to the point where I wanted to get it refunded. I gave it another go, now I am beginning to like it as it starts to run more and more smoothly.
The best "sim"ulation game by far
So far there are many bugs with building, most egregiously with - Changing the height of floors - Placing stairs - Placing doors and some objects when floors heights are changed - Creating sub floors, basements, split levels But I love the variety of locations you can build in, car-free high density areas, farm land, Industrial, suburban, all feel like the niche they represent. In terms of life sim gameplay, the gameplay loop feels more rewarding to me as a player who prefers building Ex. leveling skills to improve career. Choosing "Tarot " like perks after you fall asleep is SUPER COOL and I hope they add more variety and balance. I also like to collect the items for the museum, although I would like if that felt more impactful. I felt hesitant to buy at 40$ and waited until it was on sale. After playing, I would have spent the 40$ absolutely, I also know the price will increase after early access. But the best part is, PARALIVES WILL HAVE NO PAID DLC, ONLY FREE EXPANSIONS. Thank you Paralives team for being the coolest people ever and I hope all of you become bagillionares and make lots of cool games <3<3<3<3<3
For early access, its really nice and fleshed out. However, i do notice that the autonomy lacks depth, most things para would do when not controlled are just playing their phones or doing push ups. I do also would love options in conversation (like, starting a conversation in playful way or mean way or romantic way, rather than waiting for the chance for the option to show)
