About
Hi, I’m Niklas – the developer of Small Spaces. My goal is to make a game that puts you into a creative flow without you even noticing. And a lot of the player feedback has been exactly that. So, if you’re looking for a relaxing game to take your mind off stressful thoughts, Small Spaces might be just the creative escape you were looking for :)
Shape the space your way
Turn the small spaces fully upside down with your creativity! Modular kitchens? Loft apartments? Find smart solutions and design unique spaces that are functional and beautiful. Add indirect lighting, plants and more to decorate and personalize your space down to the smallest detail.
Inspired by real places
On Early Access start, you’ll design in 3 different locations:
New York – raw industrial factories and warehouses turned into gorgeous loft apartments with high ceilings and expansive windows.
Berlin – historic apartments with the typical 1900 european charm and beautiful bay windows. Think vintage charm meets quiet elegance.
Tokyo – mid-century inspired simplistic apartments with sliding doors and sometimes warm concrete wall finishes.
Together, these offer 9 apartments, each with a distinct layout and creative feel. More locations and styles will be added throughout Early Access.
Stories that guide
Every space has its own objectives, story and people who live there – ranging from a student in a shared flat to a couple sharing their first apartment together. The objectives inspire to design spaces that are not only pretty, but also practical and give you just enough inspiration to get started while not restricting your creativity.
Carefully crafted high quality assets
The game already features more than 500 furniture and decor items inspired by different styles – including comfy scandinavian beds, unique modern japanese lamps and decoration items from a record player to sewing utensils.
I truly care about original art and all of the beautiful illustrations in the game are hand drawn from an illustrator.
Walk through your creations in first person
Switch to a first-person view to experience your design from the inside – like someone who actually lives there and view your creations as the sunlight shifts from crisp morning to warm golden hour to cozy nighttime with the glow of the indirect lighting you set up.
Unlock new content as you play
You start out with just a portion of tools and furniture at your hand and unlock new content as you complete objectives. Get new materials from stone terrazzo to various wood types and unlock new tools to build loft apartments, modular kitchens or wall panels. The more you create, the more options you gain.
You play life sims mostly for home design
You like relaxing games that spark your creativity
You’re a design lover or architecture nerd
You want to design floor plans from scratch – we’re building a creative mode where you can build your own layouts, but as of now you furnish existing apartments.
You’re expecting to import your own models or textures – that kind of freedom isn’t in the game (yet!)

Why you should or should not play Small Spaces
Before You Read Every review on my profile is based on my own personal experience with a game. My opinions aren't facts, and you're not expected to agree with them—and that's perfectly okay. My goal isn't to tell you whether you should like a game. Instead, I try to explain what worked for me, what didn't, and who I think the game might appeal to. Constructive discussion is always welcome, but please remember there's a real person behind these reviews. Respectful disagreements are encouraged; insults, hostility, or personal attacks are not. What is Small Spaces? In this game, you are an interior designer of sorts! Your job is to unpack and decorate multiple styles of homes. Quick Pros ✔ High replay ability ✔ Lots of content to explore ✔ Long playtime potential ✔ Frequent updates from developers ✔ Beautiful environments ✔ Strong visual style ✔ Detailed world design Quick Cons ✘ The space outside of the building feels very plain Initial Thoughts: -"Okay I am getting the hang of this, I wish I had more items though." -"ARE YOU KIDDING ME I CAN ADD MORE OR DELETE ITEMS?" -"Are we serious- I can recolour them to? God who's dream am I living cause this must not be real." Beginner Player Friendly? Yes, I would argue this game is beginner players friendly. There is a straight forward tutorial and the controls are always listed on parts of your screen or as you hover over objects. Once you get the hang of things it is very easy to understand what is going on! Game Play: In this game your goal is to decorate many different styles of apartments, houses and more! There are a few different game styles to try out and well over at least 50 levels that I have seen so far. Decorate, recolour, resize, add, destroy and just decorate to your hearts content. Graphics: The graphics are more realistic and are very pretty. The environment itself inside the apartment becomes nice as you decorate, however the environment outside could use some sort of colour. I wonder if we could even make it rain ourselves or just import something to give it a little more of a 'wow' factor. Community: This community is fairly new, however, everyone seems very creative and guides have already been made on the steam forums regarding different tips and tricks that this game has to offer. I am sure if you have any questions someone here would be willing to assist you. How long can you play? So far I have only played a half hour of this game, (as I bought a lot of games bulk from the steam sale), and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. I am one of those people who wished unpacking had more levels and this game is giving off a more realistic unpacking with a few more added features. I can picture myself spending quite a bit more time in this game just decorating and enjoying what this developer has created. My Opinion: In my opinion, if you were someone who misses unpacking and wish there was more to that game maybe you should give this game a try. As its got way more added features and you still get to unpack different things and decorate to your hearts content. I cannot wait to see the direction that this developer decides to take with this game. Overall Review ★ 7/10 - A cozy unpacking game that lets you design- then re-design, and then design some more! ✘ Active Online Multiplayer (meaning people will interact with you in game) ✔ Family Friendly (meaning friendly to all ages) ✔ Solo Play ability (meaning you can play by yourself if preferred) ✘ Cross Compatibility (meaning you can play with friends through other consoles.) ✘ In-App Purchases (meaning you can buy things after buying the game i.e DLC's) ✘ Controller Compatible (meaning you can play this game with a controller) Enjoyed this review? For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Really cute and relaxing game. I honestly didn't expect to spend so much time just moving things around until everything looked right. Very simple, but I had a lot of fun with it. Definitely worth playing if you like decorating games.
There is not a lot of selection for items so it gets boring after a while. It's extremely buggy - between the same boxes multiplying over and over, boxes being unlootable, boxes spawning in weird places, not being able to move said boxes because they're stuck under the closed off stairs, and not able to recieve stars after finishing a room - it is almost unplayable.
This is a really great little game that is scratching the itch Unpacking left with me while also fulfilling the home decorating itch without having to play The Sims. Because it's still early access and largely one person working on the game, I'm rather forgiving of the graphical issues as they aren't game breaking. There's a lot of object tearing and fuzziness with the lighting no matter how I modify my settings, and I'm not sure if it's just my graphics card or if the optimization still needs some adjustment. It's easy to ignore most of the time, and rather frustrating at other times as it greatly depends on whether the home is dimly lit or well lit. My biggest gripe funny enough is more of a personal preference: holy mother of plants. I REALLY wish there was more decor options. I know the point of this is to be cozy, but "fill it up with plants and call it a day" is a cozy vibe or aesthetic or whatever I could never get behind. I hope to see the decor expanded upon further to accommodate a variety of preferences, as you can tell the most time has been put into plants and yoga, and every. single. client. is into it. When playing freestyle, it makes it a lot harder for me to create something I as an individual am into because the options really silo you into a specific kind of person. All in all - this game is off to a great start and I'm looking forward to seeing it grow further.
My favourite cozy game of all time. Love the detailed photo-real furniture and design elements. Love the first-person walk-through mode. Love the option to change time and have the weather change. All in all it adds up to a really comfortable, mellow and atmospheric little gem. The room templates are set in different cities from Tokyo to Berlin and others and each captures that vibe pretty well. Every room template that provides you with your "blank canvas" on which to lay out your cozy masterpieces is interesting and different AND places I would love to actually live in. Absolutely recommend. Great game. Hope it continues to grow and add more design pieces, cities, and homes.
This game scrathes a deep itch I didn't even know I had. Who would have known I would become so emotionally invested in a couch?? If you like to organize, decorate, and make things aesthetically pleasing, this game is for you. Its like being able to find an apartment and being able to furnish it to however you want without spending hundreds of dollars. It is also very addictive because I have spent HOURS adjusting bed placements without even noticing. I really look forward to the curtain updates. Its nice that they have a timeline you can access showing the future updates and what is planned for the game.
I refunded this game, and I wanted to like this game, but it's a bit laggy and there's not much content; I understand it just released and is an early access game, but there's not much sandbox freedom. The "Design" gameplay option is really nice, but there's a lack of options to pick from, and some items you can't even recolour. Also, the colours when recoloured are a bit muted, and you can't change that, despite making a colour "brighter". There's also a shop where you can get more items to use in the Sandbox "Design" mode but you have to purchase them using stars (which you earn 1 every level, but slow grind since there isn't many levels yet). I might come back to this game at a later stage, but for now, I shall be passing on this one. Still a nice game to check out though, if you enjoy Sims or Tenants, or any type of interior decorating games, but at its current state, I cannot fully recommend.
