I really loved Papers, Please. It keeps you in this constant state of low-level anxiety, trying to do your job, take care of your family, and figure out what the “right” thing to do is when those things don’t always line up. What surprised me most was how relatable it felt in ways I wasn’t expecting. The systems you’re a part of can slowly push you to become desensitized to the suffering happening around you, because you’re also worried about your own place in the world and the people depending on you. And if you don’t tune it out, you’re left with the anxiety of knowing that even small decisions you make can affect someone else’s life. It’s not really a game you win so much as a game you get through, and I think that’s what makes it so good. It forces you to think beyond your own goals and needs without ever letting you forget that you have needs of your own too. I didn’t make it to the true ending on my first run, but I’m determined to get there. It’s definitely hard to play for hours at a time, but it keeps pulling me back to see if I can make it through. Highly recommend.

This may be a very simple game, but it is phenomenal. To me, it really makes you understand that there are indeed consequences for every choice you make. The fact that there are 20 endings makes you want to unlock them all because this game is that addicting.
