Since there are not many reviews I just wanted to drop a short one to show support to this developer. Panmorphia was an enjoyable little puzzle adventure. I purchased the second Panmorphia game a couple days ago and am looking forward to it and future titles from LKMAD. The scenes feel HoG like. You are clicking side to side, up and down to view various scenes and determine if you can use/pickup an item to progress the story. Overall wasn't difficult but if you find yourself stuck there is a hint system available from the map. If you are looking for a short casual game for one sitting give this a peek. :)
Sweet game like a beautiful dream. A small world that can be explored in 4 different shapes, which alter perception and options. Tranquil music. No HOGs, some fairly interesting puzzles, mostly it's just wandering about. Wondering where to go next as what.
I had to stop and mention ..there are NO hog scenes in this GAME!!! It is an adventure game, with POINT AND CLICK elements. Yes you look for things to use(that is an ADVENTURE game constant) but there are NO piles of stuff to wade through!!! I am enjoying it, and find it a tiny bit challenging; it's like the old escape room games I remember but better..it has nice music, gorgeous graphics and no hand holding (unless you want that, and in that case can play with help)) NO HOGS!!! (sheesh...... lol) Edited; I REALLY loved this game. It was a bit challenging in spots but worth every minute. A delight. I really recommend it.
Great little Gem I really enjoyed this Puzzle game!
Fairly short puzzle game - I'd give it an 8 of 10 overall due to no real mechanics for explaining the use of the statues to "morph". I finally figured it out along with the hint system and then had a fairly pleasant game. Graphics are good, Puzzles are not overly difficult. No game-breaking bugs. I'd advice picking this up on sale for a few hours of puzzle solving fun.
pros + beautiful and colorful graphics + relaxing background musics + puzzles of varying difficulty and type that are fun to solve + fun to play mini games + notebook helpful + cool story about four elements + there is an easy mode (if you don't want to challenge) + there are steam achievements cons - lack of a button which shows to hotspots causes pixel hunting - a hint button would be very handy when you stuck - some puzzle solutions can be obscure - navigation can be disorienting - no cards Overall this is an fun, casual and relaxing puzzle game.
This game bills itself as a point & click puzzle game, but to me it felt like one of those Hidden Object games that get mass produced and sold in the bargain bin at Wally World. I've heard that old point and click adventure games did involve collecting objects and figuring out where to use them. Maybe that's what a "true" point & click actually is...but that genre was essentially killed off in the early 90's when Myst came out. As for Panmorphia itself...it's not good. The puzzle solutions are frustratingly arbitrary, and paths are blocked off because the player character is a complete wimp just doesn't feel like traveling down them. "That path is too steep." "That terrain is too rough." Really? It's just a couple of small rocks. I've seen my friend scale entire cliffs unscathed, but we can't step over some stones. Click on a rock - it says the rock is buried in the mud. Ok, let's dig it out! I found a spade. Use spade on rock. Nothing happens. This type of irrational puzzle design plagues the whole game. The window is dirty and we can't see through it. Use jug of water on window - Nothing happens. Use brush on window - nothing happens. Sure, the game has hints and easy mode, but then what's the point? I think the target audience here is ages 5 - 9, no higher. But when i was 7, I was playing Myst, so...nope.
I bought this game on sale for US$0.99 and finally got around to playing it today. While it provided ~2.5 h of playtime (pretty good value for cost), its UI was often frustratingly designed, with unresponsive elements and occasional brute-force puzzle solving. I don't often leave negative reviews, but, even after looking up the answers when I got stuck, I still had to try again and again for the game to accept the correct solution. For example, I tried multiple times to place an object to solve a puzzle, but it failed so often that I checked a walkthrough. I was putting the object in the right location; it was just poorly mapped and therefore didn't register with the game until I placed it just so. I also saw that other players were similarly struggling with poor feedback from the game about item interactions -- two endgame puzzles were so frustrating for me that I watched a playthrough and the creator of the video had the same issues with getting the game to recognize that the solution was correct. Navigating back and forth after having unlocked all areas was also arbitrarily painful. While you can toggle on arrow buttons instead of clicking parts of the scenery to move from place to place,
the different forms that you take can't access the same areas, including those that allow you to transform into other forms, so you invariably need to switch multiple times if you want to go between forms that can't access each others' transformation locations (human to cat in order to become bird or fish; fish to bird in order to become cat or human). Even in the bird form, where you can fly up from the bird transformation location and then access several other areas, you're only allowed to fly back up from the fish transformation location
. Finally, some puzzles were designed without regard for conventions of the genre. Some interactables were used for multiple puzzles, other puzzles had no clues at all (relying on random guessing and memorization), and yet other puzzles relied on specific knowledge of the real world that isn't alluded to in-game at all. Yes, everything was solvable, but Panmorphia's design philosophy didn't provide the same sense of satisfaction as other games have. By way of comparison, I've completed The Room and The Room Two. These games were responsive and cleanly designed, with beautiful artwork and interesting puzzles at roughly an equivalent price. They were actually so good that I've been holding off playing the next two installments because I don't want to run out of the great experience that playing them provided. Similarly, Escape Academy, which is a bit pricier, has excellent graphics and compelling narrative and puzzle design that leaves you wanting more. I'll probably eventually play the other two games in the Panmorphia series, since I bought them all at the same time, but my hopes are not high for improved quality between games that were released only a year apart each. In particular, the second installment of this game was released only months after the first. Hopefully others can enjoy this more than I did, but I'd recommend finding better options if you're in the market for a puzzle point-and-click game.
