If you combined The Long Dark and Tales from the Loop, this is what you'd get. I really wanted to like this but several design choices are just annoying. Game mechanics aren't particularly well explained. Some anomalies feel unfair with how badly they affect you. You can finally get your car all specced up, get thrown into a muddy riverbed with no hope of escape before the storm, abort your run and lose like half your car you just spent a week building. Then it just feels like an unfair tedious grind.
it's a pretty good looking game with nice atmosphere and awesome music. the story & plot isn't all that serious and so is the whole game but it's done the right way. which means not as overly annoying and totally obnoxious as in breathedge. however it's not a pure 100% recommendation. you really need to be a sucker for this type of game. stopping your ride to craft another sealing kit and fix a flat tire every two minutes because your "all terrain" tires can't handle a few rough stones gets old real quick. even the highest quality car panels need to be fully repaired twice per run as the radiation bakes them to a crisp. some faults can't be repaired like a car panel becoming fragile and therefore breaking way faster. then you need to craft a new one and toss the old thing. obviously this is really expensive to do. even more so than the usual repairs. and guess who needs to collect a trunk full of junk to pay for all that. damn right. that's gonna be you! there is some serious grinding involved. not just to progress the game but even to keep the maintenance going. at times that really has a negative effect on the enjoyment of the game. also some combinations of weather and anomalies can and will ruin your day. instead of exploring the map and looting for resources to pay for said maintenance you need to instantly floor it and get the hell out of there to stay alive. so you wreck your car while making a run for the exit and you have nothing to show for your troubles. on a particularly nasty day i actually wrote this in my review notes: "if the game doesn't want you to play then why fight it? why not spend your time and money somewhere else?" making a game more annoying and less enjoyable to play doesn't make it any harder or better. just more annoying and less enjoyable! still i got some good fun out of the game and i really liked the idea and the story. after all i am one of them suckers for this type of game. but are you? finishing the game took 42 hours but as usual i was totally overprepared at the end. 5 hours on top for 100% achievements. dlc note: the Pacific Drive: Whispers in the Woods dlc is not needed to 100% the game. a good thing since it seems to be even more grindy than the main game. thanks, but no thanks!
Me gusta conducir y sentir que estoy a punto de morir :,3
Was playing the game normally until I was forcefed 20+ gay flags, can't have ♥♥♥♥ without seeing propaganda. I haven't finished the game from the time I'm writting this and I don't care how good the game is, no game should be pushing this ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ so far into the game that you can't refund it. I just wanna enjoy a game without seeing propaganda, I'm not asking for much. If you think this is okay you are the problem. Video games are a escape from reality, not a propaganda spreading machine.
.
honestly it was fun doing things in each map, but hoooolllyyyy crap this game over explains everything and yet somehow explains NOTHING AT ALL. My entire 9 hours was just me being confused as to what the mechanics of the game even were and as soon as I thought I figured it out, I was confused about something else. I heard nothing but great things about this game but jeezus hell this was so frustrating. You scan something new and have to sift through 3 paragraphs of a possible explanation as to what the thing does or even is. THEN, the game started a dlc in the middle of my first play through and completely changed the map and whole game so I wasn't even doing the main game anymore. I just gave up.
