Very nice fast paced 4X Turn based strategy, with an interesting take on the tech tree (being tile based)

Simple to learn rules, very flexible in strategies to employ.
Great stuff
Elegant. The developers carefully thought about how to compress a 4X game into a short match and they nailed it. I've been looking for a game like this as an alternative to Civ. I've tried others (Battle of Polytopia, Hexarchy) and while many people really enjoy them they weren't for me. Ozymandias is even a greater departure and I'd say it's probably 4X-adjacent rather than a proper 4X. All of the maps are pre-made and revealed ahead of time, and there are no random maps, exploration, or even fog of war. There are techs but not a traditional 4X tech tree. There's not even traditional combat but a more abstract "power" system and only two unit types. What's left is a tight strategy game that I find very enjoyable. I thought the lack of random maps would bother me but instead the pre-made maps make it feel even more historical to me, more like a Civ scenario. The maps are hand-crafted and they wisely picked a 2D art style that looks great and will age well. Almost all micromanagement is gone from the game, allowing the player to focus at the strategic level. And perhaps because the gameplay is simpler, the AI is quite good and I find it very challenging. My only real criticism of the game is that often when many tiles are contested it's not clear what the outcomes will be as they're only briefly shown. Oh, and for some reason they removed the demo from Steam (why do devs do that?) but thankfully you can still find the demo on GOG. Beyond that, if I were to complain it's only that I want more! The soundtrack is great but I wish it were longer. I haven't played all the maps and all the civs yet but because there are no random maps I know I'll run out at some point. But the game is so good I think even then I would want to come back to it and play it more.
