A controversial visual novel that blurs the lines between fantasy and reality. AR game developers, Judgement 7, see their creations break into the real world and threaten to destroy Tokyo. It certainly raised a few eyebrows on release, but few can argue with the quality of its rich story-telling.

Despite not getting the best reviews I bought this game based on the demo. I loved the art style, it's anime-style but it has it's own identity, and I loved the premise. Without spoiling anything the demo basically has the protaganist Reiji, who works at an indie game dev studio, put on an Augmented Reality headset. A glitch happens, he sees a destroyed world, (dead?) people hanging on a wall and a mysterious girl telling him the world is about to begin. There was some pervy humor but I kinda liked that too. I was intrigued, bought the game and got into it. Somewhere in the middle of the game the story really started to drag. For hours upon hours the same basic story-loop kept being told and it wasn't really progressing. The humor started to become really repetitive as well (just like the story). I want to address something. Many people have expressed their problems with the games sense of humor. Personally, I don't mind pervy humor, as long as I can tell it's meant to be in the spirit of fun. I do have a problem with how Our World is Ended's writers depict serious themes. Themes like (I'm gonna try to avoid any censorship here) non-consensual sex, sexual harassment, adult/underage sex, alcoholism and bullying are depicted here very casually with no regard of their severity. At the same time gay relationships are being depicted as being just as perverse than wanting to see an underage girl's panties. I seriously question the writers/developers morals. Despite all of that I still wanted to finish reading this story. After the first few hours more and more spelling/grammar mistakes started popping up. English is a second language to me, I'm not great at it, but these mistakes were so obvious anyone with a passing knowledge could point them out. They're the kind of mistakes someone makes when they type too fast or pull an allnighter. I can only assume that's exactly what happened and there was never any spellcheck before releasing the game to the world. Everything was perfectly readable off course, though it comes off as very amateurish. Eventually the story picked up and as I don't want to spoil anything all I can say is that I did like where it went. I'm glad I stuck with it. But... The first time you go through this game you'll get the "normal" ending. No matter what choices you made, you'll get the same ending the first time around. To get the "true" ending, that continues after the normal ending, you'll have to start a new game, go through the whole game again, to get the true ending followed by a character ending (depending on which character "likes" you to most because of your choices). There are guides off course to help you get specific character endings and there are multiple ways of skipping through large parts of the game the second time around (though none of them work perfectly). There's no excuse for it though. Why force players to go through the game again so that they can gain access to the full ending? Having different character ending depending on your choices, that I get, though to get one of those you'll have to play through the game a second time as well. There is no logical reason for any of this. I'm fully aware a lot of visual novels have a similar structure. Doesn't mean it's okay. Based on achievements about 17% saw the game's normal ending. Less than 13% saw the full ending... A significant amount of people probably never realized there was more ending after the ending. And why would they? It doesn't make a lick of sense.
Before anything, I'd like to state that one of my friends warned me against playing this game, but I got lured in by how good it looked – like a moth to a flame. While I don't 100% regret it, I do have some reservations.
Positive Aspects:
⦁ The UI and design elements are undeniably striking, akin to premium artwork. ⦁ The BGM is decent, though not particularly memorable. Personally, I enjoyed "Playtime's Over," Sekai, Yuno, and Tatiana's themes. ⦁ Voice acting shines brilliantly with a star-studded cast perfectly tailored to their characters. Familiar voices include Gintoki, Iroha/Yotsuba, Sora/Soma, Ai Hayasaka, and others. ⦁ The story, while not groundbreaking, keeps you engaged, and the ending is satisfactory. It's evident that this visual novel is a high-budget production, and a lot of effort was put into it, which makes me even more frustrated because of the wasted potential.
Negative Aspects:
⦁ Some mistranslations and typos can be spotted here and there, but nothing too bad. ⦁ Inconsistencies like Iruka's fingers looking weirdly bent and some CG-like art differences, mostly noticeable on one Yuno CG. ⦁ Some later chapters feel out of place and could have been better utilized earlier in the narrative. However, all of those mentioned above are just minor flaws you could overlook. The reason why I'm disappointed by this game is THE CHARACTERS. Yes, the characters are the major flaw of this visual novel, and besides the story, they are the most important aspect of a game like this.
Character Issues:
The potential for greatness is wasted as they are stereotyped (maybe a little too much) into classic anime personas. While (probably) not inherently bad for those unfamiliar with these archetypes, the characters may disappoint seasoned anime viewers who've seen these tropes repeatedly. Iruka's incessant screaming further detracts from the experience, making him a character to truly despise. Some characters, like Owari, could have been great if not for an excessive display of perviness. Despite these issues, some interactions between characters manage to be enjoyable, and a few characters have redeeming qualities that make them likable on a basic level. However, the game takes an extra step with certain stereotypes, ruining the potential for a more diverse and engaging cast.
Conclusion:
Our World is Ended is a mixed bag – a visual novel with wasted potential due to stereotyped characters. If you're new to it or can overlook repetitive, excessive character archetypes, you might find enjoyment here. However, for seasoned anime fans and VN players, be prepared for induced stupidity, plot holes, and some cringe-worthy moments. Approach with caution, and you might find some fun moments amid the letdowns.
The VN is like if steins gate was awful. The visuals are pretty but the characters are awful. At best the characters are cliche and at worst they are straight up annoying. The cast consists of a spinless MC, a perv, a fat chuuni, an air head, a child, a jerk and another jerk.If you have watched any other slice of life/ romcom anime then you have seen these type of characters before except in this VN the characters are even more one note and awful. The comedy is juvenile. It's the "classic" anime trope where the men are pervs and the women will punch them for being pervs or for any misunderstanding really. Again if you have watched any ecchi anime in the 2 decades then you know what i'm talking about.

This had me hooked from start to finish, I loved it so much that I went back and replayed through it to get all of the character endings ♥ The storyline is fantastic and it works like a dream on the steamdeck !
This VN has very good production value, top notch art and VA with an interesting plot. Unfortunately all of which is ruined by cringe level perverse immature and over-the-top humor from an insufferable cast, including the MC. For the main characters to exhibit flaws is fine, but save for Yuno they were all dis-likable. I really struggled to read more than 20 min at a time before just being too frustrated to continue. Eventually managing to get through the intro before deciding to just uninstall, moving on entirely. When comedy becomes cringe I need to walk away.
Still playing through the game, but man is it hard to get invested in the story when every other scene is about a character’s boobs. Everything in the story is brought to a screeching halt to make fun of Asano for having small boobs. Definitely a 7/10 game, the concept is very interesting but the writing is hit or miss. Not good but also not awful. Just meh
I read a couple of visual novels in the past, many of them I didn't finish due to me being busy and forgetting about or it was just boring. This VN is the opposite of that! I would highly recommend to any sci-fi fans out there. The story-line is captivating and will keep you engaged throughout the entire game. (make you emotional: happy, laughing, sad, etc.). While the characters may come off as a bit weird at first, I guarantee that they will grow on you over time. Throughout the game, I heard there are some typos, I didn't really notice that (doesn't make a big difference, it was so little that it didn't affect my gameplay). Pros: Art, story, voice acting is great! Cons: want more! There is a definite version of this game, Judgement 7 - Our World is Ended is the definite version which include 2 new characters and more story. Its disappointing that they didn't localize that version, but its okay as this VN is great! I also heard that they will see a sequal with a different case of characters - Im excited for that, but wish it have the same cast of characters! Overall, this is a must-play for anyone who enjoys a good sci-fi adventure or a good VN!
