Ostriv

It's a shoe-based economy. 10/10 It's a fantastic city-builder with a lot of difficulty (in a good way). I am a veteran of Banished and many other city-builders, and this one is up there with Banished and Anno in my opinion.

I bought Ostriv on sale a while back but only just got around to playing it. I'm happy to say it's lived up to my expectations so far. It's still in alpha, so don't expect a finished game, but for something made by such a tiny developer, what's here is really impressive. My impressions after roughly an hour: Pros: - Truly enormous maps where you'll never run out of space. - Re-sizeable buildings and plots which work excellently, and I'm surprised more city/colony builders don't have the same feature. - As someone who loves production chains and resources, there are a ton of them here. - Huge variety of different buildings. - Paths are formed naturally when people walk along the same route enough times to wear away the grass (the same as in Foundation). Building around those paths gives you a village with a really organic layout. - The soundtrack is lovely. - It's rare to see a game set in Ukraine, so bonus points for that! Cons: - The tutorial needs a lot of work. My first village failed because I ran low on nails, and by the time the tutorial told me to build a smithy to make more nails, I didn't have enough to build one. - The UI could use some more details. Having resource totals at the top of the screen would be very useful. - Progress on updates is slow, so it seems like it'll be a long time before the game is anywhere near finished.
