You should play it lol. EVERYTHING outside of the FPS portions is actually amazing, sincerely one of my favourite games. but the FPS portions... good ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ GOD the FPS portions are complete and utter ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. They will make you hate this game. They will drag this easy 8/10 down to a 3 or 4/10 EASILY. Its so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ bad. But the rest will honestly make up for it, overall worth playing. Don't let the shooting levels kill it for you. Oh, and turn the difficulty down to easy during the last boss fight. You're welcome.
This was the first 3rd person game I ever played, back when I was young. It was difficult to wrap my head around it at first, but I was completely obsessed with it for a couple years. Still brings back great memories.
that would be a mind blowing game of the last century... maybe I would play it in the future if I have more time to invest in games.... but it is clearly something special.
Coming into this game as a massive David Bowie fan, I was rather sceptical of what was said in negative reviews. However what I was met with, was an - at the time of it's release - a game so full of ambition, bundled together with a story about a revolution that I found fascinating. Besides having to change the awful default controls of the hand-to-hand combat (which, even then, its gameplay was... Not good), I managed pretty well with the rest of the controls and the general gameplay. Exploration as a whole felt rather nostalgic, made better with how much I liked the futuristic aesthetics (which are later joined with a sort of medieval fantasy aesthetic) and atmosphere of Omikron city. I feel as though I need to mention The Dreamers, which, in retrospect aren't too impressive if you happen to be a David Bowie fan, since you've probably already heard 'hours...'. However as a way to add to the oppressive setting, a sort of "collectable", this too I enjoy. So, what issues *did* I have with the title, besides the hand-to-hand combat? A lack of direction at times for one and I can't for the life of me figure out if *I* was the problem, or if at times the game was just *that* bad at telling me what to do, and in a few cases- Go. Another one is the respawn feature during gun fights, as it respawns every enemy in the level, but does not bring back any item, health or otherwise, which during some levels you might as well load a save! Oh, and speaking of... I actually didn't have too much of an issue with the save mechanic - a mechanic which asks you to have at least *one* ring in order to save your game - which is something I've been conflicted for a while, however at a point you receive generous amounts of magic rings. Could the game have lived without this? For sure, but as it stands, it isn't as bad as people make it out to be, personally. Overall I found this game to be a bit of a treat, a "blast from the past" of sorts. I would very much recommend it, *if* you can handle the controls, again I could, but in the "worst case scenario", another reviewer brought up Xpadder as a possible fix, alongside downloading a patch which a handy-dandy Steam guide lists. Two more notes: - If you find yourself dying of nothingness in one specific shootout section, the solution seems to be to not stop shooting; - And for the love of... Everything, do NOT change your drivers, you *will* brick the game.
at the time it was the only thing around that let you play 3 different platforms meaning 3rd person is 90 % mk style combat n first person shooter fill in the rest. puzzles are whack. graphics were good for the time of release
11/10
Kinda mid, tbh,
The Nomad Soul will always hold a special place in my heart. I can remember the first time I laid eyes on the promotional material as a kid. Futuristic advertisements, a living city, and DAVID ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ BOWIE. Wow, just wow. Even after all these years it feels like a world you can truly get lost in. They don't make games with this kind of depth anymore. This is the kind of game that doesn't hold your hand, there are no tutorials and you are expected to figure it out or get left behind trying. Is it dated? Hell yes. Does that matter? Hell no. Before I purchased this title again, I had on rose colored glasses. After playing it again, I can see that I was looking with clear vision. The game is a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ masterpiece and truly deserves someone to come in and rebuild it from the ground up. Mark my words: If I ever get "♥♥♥♥ you money" I'm gonna pour it into a remake of this wonderful game. Don't take my word for it: buy it, figure it out, and enjoy.
Too old, so even David Bowie can't help it
Some games from the era are classics that hold up to this day. Some are hidden gems not appreciated in its day. Some were monumental for their time but are better appreciated from afar as they don't quite hold up. Omikron: The Nomad Soul belongs to none of these categories. How do you summarise Omikron? Imagine 3 different plots and 3 different gameplay systems all mixed together into a 15h long game in 1999 starring David Bowie. Its weird, its not very good but oh is it mesmerising. It looks really good for its time, but that is the only thing it got going for it. It has a lot of the David Cageisms you're used to however, such as bad voice acting, awkward sex scenes and nonsensical twists but far more off the walls insane. A cyberpunk sci fi high fantasy hybrid with a meta narrative. How the hell did I not know this game existed until a week ago???
