Neptunia(ish) characters in a much more frustrating game. + Snappy dialogue similar to the Neptunia games + Interesting gameplay ideas (but...) - Slow, grindy and often frustrating - Quests are easy to miss unless you contantly check for them, objectives sometimes hard to find too. Sidequests are required for the good ending so can't be skipped. - Messy skill upgrade system that punishes you through higher usage cost but offers no way to reset, easy to end up in a situation where a single skill use drains most of your mana (mana only regenerates when going back to base or using items). If you stay until the post-game you can probably mitigate many of the faults but reaching that point is a slog, probably best to skip unless you are a huge Compile Heart and/or Japanese idol fan (MC is an Idol manager).
Good game. Much more serious story than the Neptunia games, and resultingly much better too. Getting the true ending is an absolute pain, but the overall progression, exploration, map sizes, and etc are solid improvements over the previous games from this developer. It runs well. No glitches. No crashes. A new roster of enemies. Overall interesting set of characters. The menus are a little clunky though. The gameplay feels a lot faster paced than Neptunia too. I still don't understand what a "blare" is after beating the game tbh. And I still don't know Momoka's real age. I am pretty sure it is 39 though.
I generally have a bit of a soft spot for Idea Factory/Compile Heart... but that's not enough for this one. This is DEFINITLY a thumb down. Let's start with the good points: there are none. So, half the review done already :-) My overall summary for the game would be something along the lines of "boring, grindy, annoying, bad game mechanics. no descriptions of anything". The story/writing is boring or non-existent, however you want to look at it. Characters are annoying. There is no ending (I'll get to the true ending in a second); the game just ends in the middle of nothing. I don't know the true ending yet. I looked it up, found that I have to do all quests, figured that's easy... but, apparently, it wasn't. And I'm not even talking about the extremely tedious questing... not only do you not find the quest locations; you might have to get rare drops from rare enemies. Or spend an absurd amount of currency. But, there are a ton of requisites for some quests -- and even the internet doesn't provide an actual guide. I might try it on NG+ again, but that won't change anything. NG+ isn't much better -- you loose a lot of progress; I'll have to see whether I'm even "able" to play the game a second time. It's too grindy and annoying. Addition: I did go into the "true ending", but again, I haven't finished it. What I believe to be the final fight is at least two boss fights end-to-end, and the second one just wiped my entire party from almost full HP to nothing. If there's anything that can be done, I don't know what -- I have no idea what the stats do, or what the attacks are that it used... and I can't even restart on just the second fight.
If you like these type of games it is very cute.
(Ignore the 3 hours played, I played almost always offline) Omega Quintet is a nice title hampered by some questionable design choices. The story is pretty simple: the world is invaded by monsters called Blare, but one city resists under the protection of the Verse Maidens, idols with weapons that fight this menace. That's more of less the premise. The cutscenes are seen by the PoV of Takt, a friend of one of the Verse Maidens roped into the role of Manager of the girls. You'll either like him for his "I don't care at all" attitude or you'll hate him for his lack of emotion and sounding like an uninterested jerk in general. Gameplay-wise, the game is mission based, with Story missions that will advance the plot and Secondary ones that will give you some goodies upon completion. Like Neptunia games, you choose a location from a menu and instantly get there. The maps are quite larger than previous games, and as you progress in the game you'll get abilities that'll allow you to reach new areas or get some treasures. The combat system is, surprisingly, not based on HDNeptunia Victory system: you don't move on the battlefield and each girl can take more than one action on their turn. Enemies are positioned on lanes and can be moved up or down by the girl's attacks, which is something to keep in mind since each type of weapon does more or less damage depending on what lane the enemy is. During battles, Takt can be attached to a girl as a support unit, providing passive stat boosts, defending the girl or the entire team during certain attacks and delay the turn of an enemy that has been attacked by his girl .There's also other stuff I won't go into detail, like Harmonics (combo attacks by 2 or more girls) and Live Concert Mode (various positive effects on the entire team). The game has a mode where you can make music videos starring the girls, but I didn't touch it outside of quests that ask you to make a video with a specific song (playing a pre-made one will complete the quest, so you don't really have to use it if you don't want to). Being an IF/CH game, fanservice is present like always, and not only through cutscenes: the girls' dresses can only take so much before getting ripped apart, leaving them with only their underwear. This is not something you want, however, since it makes the girls weaker until you repair their dresses. Cutscene fanservice, however, is kinda tame compared to stuff IF/CH pulled in the Neptunia series. Now, there are also some issues I found while playing: * Order Break: this horrible feature gives enemies multiple consecutive turns without seemingly rhyme or reason. It actually activates at certain HP thresholds, but the game doesn't tell you that, so don't be surprised if an enemy gets ,like, 5 attacks in a row and destroys your party because you did too much damage too quickly, but not enough to kill it. It's an issue mostly in lategame, thankfully, but it's still bad. * The maps are a bit too big, and can be boring to play through. This also ties into another thing... * Backtracking: each time you complete a Secondary mission, the NPC will tell you a that chest has spawned and where it spawned. These chests usually contain coins that are necessary to keep stuff in a New Game+ and buy some things, so you want to get as many of them as possible. Couple this with more backtracking for ability-locked chests and it quickly becomes a chore. * The girls never shut up. They have a quip for everything you do: buying stuff, jumping, standing still, waiting in the menus and so on. It becomes annoying very quickly. I recommend this game if you're a fan of the Neptunia games.
- So good and fun to play, rating 97/100
The game has some leveling up system, which works fine, but it's very grindy, and you will have to spend several hours defeating the same mobs, and fights never get that exciting. game is very mid
